Quality of care program in west China

Abstract

PIP: This paper discusses key issues facing family planners in the promotion of quality care program in West China to a level comparable with the eastern region. It presents an overview of the region's conditions including the population distribution, health care facilities, and services for women and children, marriage rates, and contraceptive method preferences. Accordingly, a discussion on the challenges in the provision of quality health care and several recommendations for service providers and policy makers was given. The recommendations include the provision of quality family planning services on different levels based on local conditions, enhancement of staff management and service provider training, establishment of a norm for service provision and service scope, and the extension of preferential policies involving investment promotion and the provision of equipment, books, funding, and training.
