[Complications with transrectal biopsy of the prostate]

Abstract

Objectives: To probe into the complications of prostate biopsy.

Methods: The clinical data of 220 patients underwent prostate biopsy from 1997 to 2001 were reviewed.

Results: A total of 93 patients suffered slight complications, and 15 patients suffered severe complications.

Conclusions: Transrectal prostate biopsy is easily and safely by using 18 gague biopsy needles. These data demonstrate the low morbidity and less complication associated with contemporary transrectal prostate biopsy.
