Abstract

Microwave thermotherapy is considered to be an alternative to conventional surgical treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Our initial experience of the first six months shows this technique has achieved objective improvement of the symptoms and uroflowmetry, as well as a significant reduction of postmicturition residual urine. It carries a minimal morbidity, no mortality and has permitted recovery of micturition in over 90% of the patients with urinary retention.
