Successful treatment of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) mediastinitis in a heart transplant recipient

Abstract

We report on the first case of successfully treated severe methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) mediastinitis after heart transplantation. The therapy consisted of wrapping of the heart with the transposed greater omentum, 4-week local irrigation and prolonged aggressive antibiotic therapy with vancomycin and linezolid.
