Abstract

Objective: To investigate the effect of genistein on the proliferation and lipid peroxidation of rat aortic smooth muscle cells (SMC).

Methods: Different concentrations of genistein were used to inhibit the proliferation of smooth muscle cells, and SOD, MDA, cAMP, 6-Keto-PGF1a in medium were observed. MTT method was used to assay the proliferation of SMC.

Results: Compared with the control group, 0.1-100 micromol/L genistein could inhibit the proliferation of SMC by increasing SOD activity, raising cAMP and 6-Keto-PGF1a, reducing MDA (P<0.05, P<0.01), and the inhibitory action accompanied with the dose-effect relation.
