Five (5) culture media of MEM, DMEM, Ham's F12, DMEM+F12, and RPMI 1640 were used to culture the human and rabbit corneal epithelia, in order to find the best suited media for the purposes. It was found that rabbit corneal epithelium grew best in DMEM+F12, with good adhesion to the wall, cell multiplication, and sheet formation, while RPMI 1640 was suitable for human corneal epithelium. The authors discussed the ingredients of suitable media and their effects on the growth of cells.
