Head and neck reconstruction using a combined sternomastoid musculocutaneous external jugular veno-accompanying-artery adipofascial flap

J Plast Reconstr Aesthet Surg. 2009 Apr;62(4):510-3. doi: 10.1016/j.bjps.2007.11.048. Epub 2008 Jan 14.

Abstract

We combined a sternomastoid musculocutaneous (SMC) flap and an external jugular veno-accompanying-artery adipofascial (EJ VAF) flap, for head and neck defect reconstruction. The SMC flap provides a rich arterial flow and the EJ VAF flap good venous drainage, making a reliable flap easy-to-raise combination. The flap took well in two patients requiring head and neck reconstruction.
