Background: Reconstruction after parotid surgery still represents a challenge for the otolaryngologic surgeon, particularly to avoid neck scars and Frey syndrome. The interposition of fascia lata grafts and sternocleidomastoid muscle flaps represents the most common surgical solutions that have been suggested, even if these options often increase local morbidity. To date, the most exciting and promising progress in reconstruction of postparotidectomy wounds comes from the application of bioengineered tissues.
Methods and objective: This was a prospective preliminary study. The results of treatment of parotid surgery wounds with the use of the autologous dermal graft TISSUEtech autograft system (Fidia Advanced Biopolymers, FAB, SrL, Abano Terme, Padua, Italy) are presented.
Results and conclusions: The postoperative follow-up results from this study demonstrate efficacy in preventing depression or neck scars after parotid surgery using the TISSUEtech autograft system.
