Br J Oral Maxillofac Surg. 2009 Jun;47(4):259-67. doi: 10.1016/j.bjoms.2008.11.011. Epub 2009 Feb 5.

Abstract

PET/CT has an established and key role in the management of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck. It should be considered in all patients with occult head and neck tumours and before major interventions particularly in those patients with a high risk of distant metastases. This article outlines the physical principles of the technique and illustrates the clinical applications in maxillofacial surgery.
