Surgical approaches to the mitral valve

Abstract

Different approaches to the left atrium and various techniques of the atriotomy are practiced by cardiac surgeons according to the need for a particular patient and preference of the individual surgeon. Their basic methods, advantages and disadvantages, and our present day techniques are discussed.
