Polarizing macrophages through reprogramming of glucose metabolism

Cell Metab. 2012 Jun 6;15(6):793-5. doi: 10.1016/j.cmet.2012.05.008.

Abstract

Reprogramming of intracellular metabolism is common in activated immune cells. In this issue of Cell Metabolism, Haschemi et al. (2012) show that the sedoheptulose kinase CARKL is required for metabolic reprogramming in activated macrophages and provide evidence that changes in glucose metabolism and the pentose phosphate pathway (PPP) influences macrophage polarization.
