As a chronic disease, diabetes in children has repercussions on self-esteem, which, in return, influences children's self-confidence as well as their self-care skills. The young patient establishes strategies for adapting to the disease, or coping strategies, which depend on the child's age (problem solving) and mirror the adult parent. Self-esteem is also established and maintained in favor of successful social integration among the child's peers.
