Abstract

A new guideline on STI consultations in general practice was recently published. The guideline focuses on proper risk assessment and devotes greater attention to pro-active testing for HIV and hepatitis. Three clinical case studies demonstrate barriers as well as opportunities in clinical practice. Open communication is a prerequisite for adequate diagnostics (who, what, where, when to test) and better treatment and proper counselling.
