Reducing misclassification bias in severe malaria research

Cell Rep Med. 2022 Oct 18;3(10):100789. doi: 10.1016/j.xcrm.2022.100789.

Abstract

By incorporating platelets and PfHRP2 into standard case definitions of severe falciparum malaria, Watson et al.1 increased diagnostic specificity to 93%. The approach trades off sensitivity and might introduce a selection bias but offers a helpful way to handle misclassification.
