Fighting the Fallacies: The ‘Infodemic’ and the European Commission

In this chapter, the authors reflect on the experience of fighting COVID-19 mis- and disinformation from the perspective of a strategic communications team at the European Commission. The authors explain the three pillars of EU’s work to counter disinformation, how pandemic and vaccine-related disinformation evolved during the pandemic, and the different activities, networks, and policies that have been put in place to address disinformation. They conclude with lessons learned from the experience.
