Treatment of infusion-related phlebitis: review and nursing protocol

J Intraven Nurs. 1993 Sep-Oct;16(5):282-6.

Abstract

Infusion-related phlebitis is a frequently occurring, but often preventable complication associated with intravenous therapy. Early detection with prompt, consistent nursing intervention decreases the occurrence and severity of cannula-related phlebitis. This article reviews the clinical aspects of phlebitis and describes a comprehensive approach for the treatment of infusion-related phlebitis.
