A review of emergency colonic surgery

Br J Hosp Med. 1996 Oct;56(7):326-9.

Abstract

Recently, management priorities of colonic emergencies have shifted away from emergency operative management by junior surgeons to more thorough preoperative assessment and resuscitation followed by semi-elective surgery performed by experienced surgeons. The move towards more definitive primary surgical management is discussed, together with the various surgical controversies which remain undecided.
