Abstract

Prevention of nosocomial infections is a long-term task needing coordination and habits modifications of numerous health care workers. The infection control unit must be independent and staffed by trained personnel. Its main goals are: to monitor nosocomial infections and antibiotic use; to implement written procedures; to distribute hospital-wide information on local epidemiology, incidence rates as well as results of preventive measures used in the hospital.
