NEW DELHI: Security has been heightened across India ahead of
Independence Day celebrations, with a particular focus on New Delhi where
prime minister Narendra Modi will hoist the Tricolour at the Red Fort.
The
Delhi Police have deployed personnel around the Red Fort, while bomb disposal staff and dogs are checking the vicinity for any threats.
Leveraging artificial intelligence, the Delhi Police have installed numerous CCTV cameras.
Special cameras have also been set up on Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMD) that connect to a facial recognition system to monitor invitees at the Red Fort.
Delhi Police are working in tandem with Border Security Force personnel to patrol the Yamuna River. Observations are being made through binoculars to ensure full security. Additionally, security measures have been enhanced across Punjab. Bathinda SSP Amneet Kondal noted the local police's heightened vigilance.
"It is the duty of the police; during such occasions, we have to be on our toes. So Bathinda Police is taking some security measures every day... Bathinda Police carried out a flag march in sensitive areas..." said Bathinda SSP Amneet Kondal.
Security has also been ramped up in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba region. Security forces have established a special Naka on the Batote-Doda highway during a joint operation involving the Indian Army and J&K Police in the Akar Forest near Patnitop. Currently, there is active contact with terrorists, and operations are underway.
In Mumbai, police are conducting vehicle checks as part of their comprehensive security efforts. Uttar Pradesh has also seen a deployment of police personnel in all sensitive areas.
ADCP Noida Manish Mishra emphasized the added security measures in place.
"Given the Independence Day celebrations, security has been tightened... Police forces have been deployed in all the sensitive areas... Suspicious vehicles are being checked..." said ADCP Noida Manish Mishra.
The heightened measures are aimed at ensuring a safe and secure Independence Day for all citizens across the nation.
