NEW DELHI: At least ten people died after a three-storey building collapsed in Zakir Colony, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, officials said on Sunday.

The Information Department reported that out of 15 people trapped, 14 were rescued from the rubble.

Rescue efforts by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams, supported by sniffer dogs, are underway.

The deceased have been identified as Sajid (40), his daughter Saniya (15), son Saqib (11), Simra (one-and-half years), Reeza (7), Naffo (63), Farhana (20), Alisa (18), Aliya (6) and Rimsa (5 months).

Earlier, Meerut District Magistrate Deepak Meena stated that three individuals had died and six were still trapped.

Furthermore, 11 districts in Uttar Pradesh are currently experiencing floods, resulting in 17 deaths, according to the Uttar Pradesh chief minister's office.

The relief money of Rs 4 lakh per family has been distributed to families of the deceased. A total of 3,056 houses have been damaged due to floods, and relief assistance is ongoing.
