Five arrested in 50L Ahmednagar robbery
Nashik: The Ahmednagar police have arrested five of the 10 suspects in a robbery case. The suspects had allegedly robbed two traders, Shoibh Sayyad and his brother Sameer Sayyad, of Rs50 lakh on Sept 9.
Mubarak Attar was one of the accused previously employed with the trader. He plotted the robbery with another accomplice and allegedly executed it with eight others.
Shoibh and Sameer Sayyad were attacked and robbed of the cash while they were on their way to the Nepti onion market.
Sameer had suffered injuries on his head and had to be hospitalised. The daylight robbery had shaken the traders' community and farmers of the district, who frequent the market committees for the sale and purchase of agricultural produce.
Senior Ahmednagar police officers, including SP Rakesh Ola and additional SP Prashant Khaire, had visited the spot.
During the investigation, the police found CCTV footage of two bikers following the two traders from their residence to the robbery spot. They subsequently ascertained their identity and found them to be hailing from Rahuri taluka in Ahmednagar.
Local Crime Branch (LCB) inspector Dinesh Aher informed the police that the 10 accused were coming to the Vilad Ghat area to distribute the loot among themselves. Officers reached the spot and arrested five of them. The remaining suspects managed to escape.
During their inquiry, the police learned that suspects Nagesh Chavan and Mubarak Attar, were workers and knew one another. Attar, owing to his past work experience with the traders, had told Chavan that Shoibh Sayyad always carries a lot of cash with him. The duo planned and went on to execute it after conducting a recce for two days (Sept 5 and 6) to find out the route Sayyad uses from his residence to the onion market.
