Minimum wage: Family budget survey gets nod

T'puram: The cabinet on Wednesday gave the nod to carry out a family budget survey to prepare a new consumer price index for revising the wages of workers under the Minimum Wages Act of 1948. The survey is based on the recommendations submitted by the department of economics and statistics, considering 2023-24 as the base year. A state-level consumer price index revision committee will be formed to oversee related matters.
Assembly session
The cabinet decided to recommend to the governor to convene a session of the 15th legislative assembly from Oct 4.The 12th session is being convened exclusively for legislation process.
The bills, including the Senior Citizens' Commission Bill, Domestic Workers' Protection Bill, Malabar Devaswom (Amendment) Bill, Digital Survey Bill, University (Amendment) Bill for introducing a four-year degree course, Bill for granting permission for foreign universities to operate in the state, Bill to grant powers to the govt to discontinue the amnesty scheme, and Headload Workers (Amendment) Bill, are pending for becoming Acts and are likely to be considered in the session.
Judicial first-class magistrate courts
Six mobile courts will be converted into regular judicial first-class magistrate courts (JFMC). The mobile courts in Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, and Kannur will be converted to regular JFMCs. Twenty-one new positions will be created while 16 positions allocated to criminal courts will be restructured.
Homoeopathy dispensary
A homoeopathy dispensary will be established in Aluva municipality under the National AYUSH Mission's Karunya scheme.
Handicrafts Corp MD
The cabinet decided to appoint G S Santosh as the managing director of the Handicrafts Development Corporation Kerala Ltd.
Administrative approval
Administrative approval has been granted to acquire 20 cents of land adjacent to the Kozhikode Cyberpark for its expansion.
