Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Singapore after Brunei, receiving a warm welcome from the Indian diaspora. During his visit, India and Singapore signed four MoUs focusing on digital technologies, semiconductors, health, and skills development. The bilateral relationship was elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership aimed at boosting economic ties and collaboration in various sectors. The agreements were exchanged by external affairs minister S Jaishankar and minister of foreign affairs in Singapore Vivian Balakrishnan, in the presence of Prime Minister Modi and his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong at the Parliament House of Singapore.

The talks between the two leaders encompassed the upcoming 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between their nations, set to be commemorated in 2025.

Later, PM Modi also addressed the India- Singapore business roundtable where he focused on developing Skills. He also said that they are "moving aggressively in the semiconductor business". Now, the PM is on his way back to India.

The visit will see the two sides making efforts to boost cooperation in areas like advanced manufacturing, maritime connectivity, aviation, skills and healthcare.

Among the big takeaways will be an MoU for cooperation in the semiconductor sector in which Singapore is a global leader.

"In terms of factors of production, Singapore has limitations on land and labour. India, with abundant land and skilled labour, can be part of Singapore's semiconductor value chain. Semiconductor companies in Singapore can be encouraged to consider India for their expansion plans,'' said a source, adding Singapore also has semiconductor equipment and material manufacturers.
