Recently Tom Brady joined Colin Cowherd on the show The Herd with Colin Cowherd and discussed his debut game against the Dallas Cowboys and the new deal of Trent Williams with the San Francisco 49ers, while emphasizing how important it is to make the Pro Bowl lineman happy. For Trent Williams, an 11-time Pro Bowler, this deal is worth $82.66m over three years. The contract includes a $25.69m signing bonus and $48m in fully guaranteed money at the time of signing. He has received a total of $103m in guaranteed money since joining the team in 2021.
Tom Brady’s take on the 49ers and Trent Williams' contract situation

Tom Brady, while appearing on The Herd with Colin Cowherd shared a funny take on the 49ers and the contract situation of Trent Williams while describing how he would handle not having Williams at training camp. “I would be driving him to work every day if I was the quarterback,” Brady said. “I’d be making sure Trent was with me every single place I went. There’s no better protector in the NFL than Trent over the years.”
Brady further explained how critical Williams is to the 49ers’ offensive game plan. “Obviously, San Francisco’s run game is incredible, the way they scheme their run game up, but having Trent in there it’s an entirely different offense,” Brady told Cowherd. “Because of his athleticism, his rare combination of size, of quickness, of power. When he gets out there on the field, he’s a matchup advantage for the 49ers every time he takes a snap. So, when they have him out there, they all feel confident, a lot of those plays are going to go to the left side of the line of scrimmage right behind him. They know that when he’s in pass protection he’s going to hold up as well as anybody, [it] doesn’t matter who he’s going up against. He’s a tremendous player.”

Williams returned to practice following a Labor Day break, while the 49ers signed Brandon Aiyuk to a four-year, $120 million extension, which ended his hold-in. That was Aiyuk's first practice since February's Super Bowl. Months of contentious contract discussions ended with that deal. Williams' talks never reached the level of acrimony in Aiyuk's, as he was granted permission to seek a trade. The 49ers had grown frustrated at times with the Aiyuk situation, but said all along they were never worried about striking a deal with Williams. "At some point, you've gotta play," General Manager John Lynch said before signing the deal with Aiyuk.
“I’m optimistic that things will work out with Trent,” coach Kyle Shanahan said Wednesday, as per The Athlete. “I’m not sitting here knowing what day it’ll be. … When two sides want to get a deal done, usually it happens.” Williams also said that his protracted contract negotiation underscored how hungry he remains at age 36 and how much he loves football. He mentioned playing until 40 if he can. “I’m gonna play as long as I can,” he said.
Williams, a three-time first-team All-Pro, has three years remaining on his six-year, $138 million deal signed in 2021. There's no more guaranteed money on the deal. Williams is seeking a pay raise that gets him closer to the top of the market and some additional guarantees, as he remains the best offensive tackle in football. Getting Williams back on the field is a massive boost to the offense. He remains one of the league’s best pass protectors and still has elite movement skills to get down the field on the 49ers’ vaunted wide-zone runs.
