When delivering a training module, set clear time expectations by outlining the session's agenda and duration upfront. Communicate the timing for each module and break to manage pacing, and highlight any flexibility for Q&A or extended discussions. Ensure clients are aware of start and end times, and follow up with reminders to maintain alignment and avoid overruns.

Communicate Time Expectations Clearly
Provide a timeline: Share a detailed timeline with the client, including dates for each milestone and the expected completion date for the entire module.
Set realistic deadlines: Ensure that deadlines are realistic and achievable, considering factors such as content complexity, client availability, and potential unforeseen issues.

If we are experienced trainers, then by looking at the topic we can easily identify the timelines for preparing the outline & the complete module. While communicating the same to our clients, we may have to set some minor buffer time & communicate the same. While doing the module our focus should be on quality, relevance & timely completion. We can finish by or before the communicated date but certainly not after that because we have already given the timelines by adding the buffer as well.

Have an initial discussion with the client to agree on how much time each module will require and the pace that suits the learners. Confirm if there’s room to adjust the schedule if discussions run long or if extra attention is needed for specific areas.

Here’s how I do it:
Start with Transparency: I always provide a detailed timeline upfront, breaking down each phase—planning, development, delivery, and feedback. This way, clients know what to expect at every step.
Factor in Flexibility: While timelines are important, I build in buffer time for adjustments. Clients appreciate the foresight, and it helps prevent surprises.
Frequent Check-ins: Regular progress updates keep everyone on the same page, allowing for any adjustments as we go. This ensures that timelines remain realistic and aligned with evolving needs.
Align with Client's Priorities: Understanding the client's business cycles and deadlines is essential. I customize timelines to fit their unique schedule.
