🙋♀️Care work encompasses both direct, personal, and relational activities such as feeding a baby or caring for an ill partner, as well as indirect activities like cooking and cleaning. 💔Despite its critical role in sustaining economies and societies, care work remains largely unrecognized, undervalued, and underpaid. 👊The private sector must prioritize support to their employees to manage their work and family responsibilities. 💡Read the new blog post about why your company should care about care, and learn from UN Women Asia and the Pacific's programmes and WEPs signatories. On International Self-Care Day, the community leaders in Karnal came together to celebrate the importance of self-care, not just for themselves but for the women and marginalized groups they represent. One of the most touching parts of the celebration was the activity where participants wrote their thoughts on self-care on heart-shaped cut-out papers. Heart-Shaped Messages of Self-Care: Reena shared her perspective: "Self-care means having a safe space to share my thoughts and fears without judgment. It means empowering ourselves with knowledge and resources to fight against the injustices we face daily." Savitri wrote, "Self-care is about education and empowerment. It's about giving young girls the tools they need to succeed and the confidence to know they can achieve anything they set their minds to." Komal, another community leader, emphasized the collective aspect of self-care: "It's about coming together as a community, sharing our burdens, and lifting each other up. It's knowing that we are not alone in our struggles and that there is strength in unity." The International Self-Care Day celebration in Karnal was more than just an event; it was a powerful reminder of the resilience and strength within the community. The heartfelt messages written on the heart-shaped papers reflected the hopes, dreams, and determination of those who have faced significant challenges and emerged stronger. Through their words and actions, the community leaders in Karnal demonstrated that self-care is not a luxury but a necessity. It is a vital part of their journey toward healing, empowerment, and a brighter future. As they continue to support each other and advocate for their rights, they embody the true spirit of self-care and community resilience. #SelfCareDay #CommunityResilience #Empowerment #HeartfeltCare #StrongerTogether #WomenEmpowerment #MarginalizedVoices #UnityInCare

Women sustain communities in ways that are not always recognized for their true value, from doing more of the caregiving for loved ones at home to working in essential professional fields like education and health care that can be underpaid and undervalued. And because many times our contributions are taken for granted, our needs are not always considered or met by existing policies and practices. This is particularly challenging as women live longer than men everywhere in the world (in the United States, about 6 years longer) and many do not have the resources to age with dignity. We see this every day in our work at NCOA with women representing over 70% of the 2.3 million lives improved by our team last year. Thanks to Salzburg Global Seminar for bringing together an impressive group of leaders from around the world to examine and explore how we close the women’s health and wealth gap as we age. It was energizing to learn more about what is working in other countries. And, it was an honor to share NCOA’s insights on ways communities can and are fostering a culture of health, well-being and meaning for women as we age. Local communities and community based organizations are laboratories of innovation. We are proud to partner with so many committed, passionate community-based leaders each and every day. #socialimpact #collaborativeleadership #WeAgeWell #EquityPromise https://lnkd.in/dWXSBk2J

This #InternationalWomenDay, let's not get intoxicated on the free cocktails of performative activism and empty platitudes served by organisations that claim to honour women. Look beyond the flowers and other free gifts that you're getting today and ask them these five critical questions: 1. Does your board of directors/trustees/C-suite consist of at least 30% women? 2. Do you hire pregnant women? 3. Do you provide/subsidise childcare services so women don't have to choose between pursuing their career and becoming a stay-at-home mother because licensed childcare costs an arm, a leg and a firstborn? 4. Do you practice equal pay? 5. Do you implement safeguards that ensure a safe working environment for women? If they answer no to any of these questions, take your hard-earned money*** elsewhere, sisters. We deserve better. *** According to the Department of Statistics Malaysia, for every ringgit that a man earns, women on average only earn 67 cents! If this pisses you off as it did me when I first found out, share this post so we can collectively get livid (and then get even) for a good cause.

Empowering Women Everywhere! In isolated areas, access to basic hygiene products can be a challenge, leaving many women and girls without these vital resources that contribute to well-being and dignity. But initiatives like "Days for Girls" are changing that narrative. A group of women from the MAF community facilitated workshops as part of a women’s conference in remote Eliptamin, Papua New Guinea, to fight period poverty. Through their commendable efforts, isolated women are gaining access to vital sanitary packs, ensuring they can manage their menstrual health with dignity and confidence. These workshops not only provided essential hygiene products but also empowered the women to take control of their lives and break free from the constraints imposed by lack of access and the taboos around the topic. As we celebrate the impact of "Days for Girls," we also want to recognize the broader importance of ensuring equitable access to hygiene resources for all women, regardless of their geographical location. Together, let's continue to support initiatives that uplift and empower women everywhere. #iwd2024 #WomenEmpowerment #HygieneForAll #Dignity #DaysForGirls #iflyMAF #flyingforlife https://lnkd.in/g53jqZzR

This #internationalwomensday, we’d like to introduce you to Ruby, team member at BTP Cheswick who joined us through the Boston Foundation. Ruby joined us through one of our hospitality days held with Empire Fighting Chance. We could tell you all about Ruby’s story, but we think she does a much better job of telling it herself, so head to the video below to hear all about it. You can probably tell, she’s a superstar member of our Cheswick team and we’re lucky to have her. The Boston Foundation & supporting women Our very own Boston Foundation, funded by our takeaway coffee sales, exists to support our local communities and the young people within them. Through various organisations including Empire Fighting Chance, we invite young people to our cafes for hands-on, confidence building sessions, promoting life at BTP and life in hospitality as a safe space, where they can be accepted for who they are and given the opportunities and tools to develop a career. The Foundation is open to all young people of any gender, but it’s just one part of our commitment to championing women in hospitality. We have superstar women at all levels in our cafes, from team members and baristas, to Ops Manager and Head of Operations. But, there’s always more we could do. So, this year we’re working with our team members to develop a specific Women in Boston policy, to make sure we’re supporting everyone who identifies as a woman whatever their journey – whether they're in the first stage of their career, growing with Boston, as expectant or new mums, or going through menopause. #makingthingsbetter #internationalwomensday2024
