🩺 September 17th is World Patient Safety Day, an important day dedicated to advocating and improving patient safety across the globe. Ensuring a correct and timely diagnosis is paramount to ensuring patient safety and improving health outcomes. But an alarming 2023 study found that diagnostic errors were estimated to have led to nearly 800,000 deaths or cases of permanent disability in the US annually. Today is World Lymphoma Awareness Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the seventh most common cancer in the United States. Did you know? 🩸 Lymphoma is a type of blood cancer that starts in white blood cells called lymphocytes, which are part of the body's immune system. The two main types are Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. 📈 Hodgkin lymphoma spreads in an orderly way from one group of lymph nodes to another. It may later spread to other organs. ❌ Non-Hodgkin lymphoma spreads in a non-orderly way throughout the lymphatic system. ⚠️ Risk factors include older age, family history, HIV, Epstein-Barr virus, and radiation exposure. Many treatments for lymphoma are available, and early detection and treatment can significantly improve patient outcomes.
