The Barrio Viejo, or "old neighborhood," is home to the Tucson Convention Center as well as many historic homes and offices. Also called Barrio Historico, several of the original inhabitants of the city settled here. Remnants of its original character remain, including well-preserved clusters of adobe homes, but contemporary urban renewal practices have made some controversial changes. Look for El Tiradito (the Wishing Shrine); legend says if you light a candle here and it is still burning the next day, your wish will be granted. Bordered by Stone Avenue, I-10, Cushing Street, and 18th Street. Also a short walk to St. Augustine Cathedral.
