If there's a Padres game happening, Basic, in East Village near PETCO Park, turns into quite a scene. Foodwise, Basic serves up authentic Italian with a simple approach void of frills and fancy ingredients. Guests rave about the thin-crust pizza (try the mashed potato pizza) cooked in a brick oven. The restaurant is a huge 5000 square-foot space in a converted warehouse with a simple, contemporary design. There are two bars and a lounge area where festive Padres fans like to gather to enjoy the no-nonsense drink list (basic, right?) and beer. Get there early as there can be a line.
