About Point Loma
Home to the site where the Europeans first set foot on the West Coast, Point Loma is one of the most historically significant neighborhoods in San Diego. It's split up into 5 districts: gorgeous homes in the La Playa area, the Midway or Sports Arena area, Sunset Cliffs, the harbor side and the waterfront urban village of Liberty Station.
See & Do
Boasting one of the most spectacular views in San Diego, the Cabrillo National Monument caters to photography buffs, kids, nature lovers, exercise fanatics and tourists. This National Park, located on the south end of Point Loma, commemorates the spot where in 1542, Juan Rodriguez Carbrillo became the first European to set foot on the west coast. Tour the museum and Old Point Loma Lighthouse, admire the view, explore San Diego's best tidepools, picnic, and whale-watch from this spectacular spot.
Eat
Because Point Loma is away from the Gaslamp and other touristy areas, restaurants here are geared toward residents. Fancy feasting has failed here while simple food and craft drinks thrive. Also popular is the seafood selection, due to proximity to the docks and local fishing community. Grab fish fillets and ceviche from Point Loma Seafoods or go for the lobster mac and cheese at C Level.
Party
Point Loma is void of trendy dance clubs of the seen-and-be-seen variety. What you will find here is a variety of down-to-earth neighborhood dive bars, restaurants bars serving up craft cocktails, and several live music venues mostly located around the marina. Humphrey's Back Stage Music Club is a part of a resort, but has a great view of Point Loma and wide range of performers on tap.
Bleiben Sie
Of course, the area includes the variety of hotels located next to the airport that provide business and leisure travelers with conveniences necessary for a headache free, quick trip to the area. Also, topping the list of best budget hotels in San Diego is The Pearl Hotel, located in Point Loma, home to a popular restaurant and bar.
Shop
The Point Loma shopping options are all very different experiences. The Sports Arena area and Liberty Station mix smaller shops with big retailers such as Target and VONS. However, the Kobey's Swap Meet is a huge outdoor market open Friday-Sunday at the San Diego Sports Arena. There, everything from produce to vintage and garage sale-type finds can be purchased. Small boutiques also dot the landscape of Point Loma.
