Gallery Chuma specializes in the art of the Gullah people of coastal South Carolina as visually portrayed by internationally recognized masters and innovative select group of emerging artists. They act as a resource center to learn more about the Gullah Culture through Gullah Art, Gullah Books, Gullah Crafts, Gullah Storytelling, Gullah Spirituals, Gullah Tours and Gullah Food. Gullah Art is a recognized art genre, much like Native American Indian Art. Gullah Art by Indigenous Gullah artists are more than just aesthetics, it is a desire by these artists to preserve their culture and lifestyle and keep it relevant for future generations.
