The Punchbowl in Mayfair is interesting for two reasons. First of all, it has retained many of its Georgian features, including a dog leg staircase, dado panelling and internal cornicing; and secondly, it's owned by the film director Guy Ritchie, he of the formerly married to Madonna fame. The Punchbowl has character and history in spades. They also serve simple home cooked food, from a head chef who's worked for most of the big places in London and Birmingham. If you want to soak up a bit of a Sherlock Holmes or filmy London then this is a good place to come, both for helping you imagine that you've stepped back in time, and also for the chance to perhaps spot some starry friends of Mr Ritchie enjoying a comfortable evening out.
