In order to make the most of the season, 10Best wanted to find the best fall activities, fall destinations, haunted hotels and haunted attractions. We invited a panel of family and travel experts to select 20 nominees in each category, and then invited our readers to vote for their favorites.

Millburn Orchards, a family-run farm, is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year and is proudly run by the fourth and fifth generations of owners. A wagon ride into the orchard starts an apple picking day where you can choose from different apples grown at Millburn Orchards. Group apple picking events are offered on the weekends in the fall and are perfect for a large outing with colleagues or friends.

Best Corn Maze: Treworgy Family Orchards in Levant, Maine

Host to the largest continually running corn maze in the state, Treworgy’s Family Orchards' maze covers over 4 acres and consists of 60,000 corn plants grown to a height of 10 feet. Each year, family members design and plant a new maze using traditional surveying and drafting methods.

Best Destination for Fall Foliage: Upper Peninsula of Michigan

Just about the entire Upper Peninsula puts on a display of fall color that peaks during the last two weeks of September and the first week of October. A favorite fall experience for leaf peepers is the drive on M-26 along the shores of Lake Roland and past the trees of Copper Country State Forest.

San Antonio began as a Spanish settlement in 1691, and it’s acquired its fair share of ghosts and restless spirits since. Sisters Grimm Ghost Tours take visitors inside the Menger Hotel (the most haunted hotel in Texas), one of the city’s first hospitals, the San Fernando Cathedral and the Bexar County Jail.

Guests of this former railroad hotel built in the late 1800s have reported numerous ghostly encounters, like being woken in the night by voices or seeing two women sitting for tea in the Fainting Room. Others report hearing footsteps on a staircase that doesn’t exist or finding a child-sized chair next to the bed in the Nubian Room.
