NGC 3324
To celebrate the anniversary of the Hubble launch in April 1990, art book publisher TASCHEN is releasing Expanding Universe: Photographs from the Hubble Space Telescope, a coffee table book that brings together the most breathtaking images from Hubble’s 25 years in orbit. From black holes to exoplanets, the Hubble Telescope captured images that have never before been seen by human eyes. Here, a star-forming nebula 7,200 light years from Earth.
Extended Groth Strip
The Hubble Telescope took this image of the region between the constellations of Ursa Major and Boötes.
The Hubble Space Telescope
An image of the Hubble Space Telescope 30 miles from Earth.
RS Puppis
The RS Puppis is a Cepheid variable star in the constellation of Puppis. It is one of the brightest in the Milky Way galaxy.
M82 Cigar Galaxy
This starburst galaxy is 12 million light-years away from Earth.
Jupiter & Ganymede
Ganymede is not only Jupiter's largest moon, it's the largest moon in the solar system.
Barnard 33 Horsehead Nebula
This dark cloud of gas and dust is one of the most easily identifiable nebulae from Earth because of its unique shape that resembles a horse’s head and neck.
NGC 2264 Cone Nebula
The Cone Nebula is located in the southern part of NGC 2264, nearly 2,500 light-years from Earth.
M16 Eagle Nebula
This Star-forming Nebula is located in the constellation Serpens, nearly 6,500 light-years from Earth.
M1 Crab Nebula
The Crab Nebula is the remnants of a star that exploded some 6,500 light-years from Earth.
M16 Eagle Nebula
The pilars in this 5.5 million-year-old cloud of gas and dust stand nearly five light-years tall.
M16 Eagle Nebula
Here, another view of the same nebula. The Hubble Telescope took a visible light image color-coded for chemical composition: blue is doubly ionized oxygen, green is ionized hydrogen and reddish orange is ionized sulfur. The infrared image prior to this gets rid of the gas and shows the stars inside.
M83 Southern Pinwheel Galaxy
Located 15 million light-years away in the constellation of Hydra, this galaxy is one of the largest and closest barred spirals to Earth.
