The Crescenta Valley Town Council has been actively engaging the community through town hall meetings and forums to address various concerns and issues affecting the local area. The recent town hall meeting saw a great turnout by community members and panelists Declan Floyd and Talin Mangioglu from Senator Portantinos’s office, Anthony Mahfood from Assemblymember Laura Friedman’s office, and county representatives Sussy Nemer, Anish Saraiya and Tina Fung coming together to discuss important topics.

Assemblymembers Friedman, Addis Honor Yurok Leader Taralyn Ipina for Activism

Taralyn Ipina is a member of the Yurok tribe. She currently serves as the tribe's first Chief Operating Officer. Taralyn, along with her tribe, spearheaded the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples Day of Action at the state Capitol in 2022. Her efforts have effectuated meaningful change in her community. She was away at a cultural ceremony and could not attend today's Session in-person. Accepting the Resolution on her behalf were Billie and Theresa Wilson.

California plans to ban plants and bushes within 5 feet of homes at risk for wildfires

California in 2020 passed a law, Senate Bill 3074, that required new defensible standards limiting combustible materials closest to homes in fire-prone areas of the state. Introduced by Assembly Member Laura Friedman, D-Glendale, the bill stated that one in four residential structures in California is in areas vulnerable to wildfires, though some studies have found that figure to be as high as 45%.

This is why it’s important that California leaders pass the Tenancy: Security Deposit Bill (Assembly Bill 2801), authored by Asm. Laura Friedman, D-Glendale.

 

Town Hall Meeting Planned

An upcoming town hall, a pivotal event that will address the changing residential landscape of our community, will take place on July 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the La Crescenta Library, 2809 Foothill Blvd. We are thrilled to have a panel of esteemed guests including representatives from the offices of Assemblymember Laura Friedman and State Senator Anthony Portantino and members from the County offices who will share their insights and updates on critical issues such as SB 8, SB 9, SB 10, multifamily housing and residential rehab centers impacting our community.

California now has mandatory water conservation in urban areas: How will the new rules affect your supplier?

The authors of the bills that required mandatory conservation rules — former state Sen. Bob Hertzberg and Assemblymember Laura Friedman from Burbank — said in a March opinion piece that the water board’s changes “trample on the hard-won work that’s been done so far by allowing water utilities until 2035 or later to implement meaningful reductions.”
