Massachusetts woman charged with shooting parents, authorities say

BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts woman was arrested Thursday on charges that she shot her parents, a county district attorney said.

Jessica Cavallaro, 24, of Bedford, was arraigned Thursday in Concord District Court on two counts of murder, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, and illegal possession of a firearm.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan identified the two shooting victims as Thelma Tatten and Mark Cavallaro. She said the shooting occurred Thursday morning on Washington Street in Bedford.

Cavallaro was ordered held without bail. Her next court date is August 20.

Bedford is about 20 miles (32.19 kilometers) northwest of Boston.

An attorney for Cavallaro did not immediately return a phone message and email seeking comment.

Ryan said police had gotten a 911 call in the morning from someone who said the woman came inside their home and told them about the shootings. That person went outside and found a man and a woman suffering from gunshots in a car parked nearby, Ryan said.

Tatten, 56, was pronounced dead at the scene. Cavallaro, also 56, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital, according to investigators. He later died.

A gun was recovered from the scene, Ryan said.
