We study the evolution of holographic subregion complexity (HSC) in a thermally and magnetically quenched strongly coupled quantum field theory in 2+1 dimension. We illustrate two concepts of complexity in this theory, (1): how much information it takes to specify a state by studying the behavior of the final value of HSC in terms of the final temperature and magnetic field and (2): how long it takes to reach the state, by considering the time it takes for HSC to relax as a function of the final temperature and magnetic field. In the first concept, we observe that the effect of temperature and magnetic field on HSC is decreasing until the energy of the probe is comparable to the final temperature and magnetic field. We present an argue based on an ensemble of microstates corresponding to a given mixed macrostate. In the second concept, we show that the time of relaxation of HSC decreases with the increase of temperature and magnetic field for fixed value of the energy of the probe. We also compare the time evolution of HSC for two quenches, in the first concept. We observe that the absolute value of the ratio of the final value of HSC for two kinds of quenches depends on the energy of the probe.

In the presence of chemical potential and temperature, we holographically study subregion complexity in a non-conformal quantum field theory with a critical point. We propose a new interpretation according to which the states, needing (more) less information to be specified, characterize the (un) stable thermodynamical solutions. We observe the increasing and decreasing effects of chemical potential and temperature on holographic subregion complexity, respectively. These two opposite behaviors lead to a point where subregion complexity of the mixed state is the same as this value for a zero temperature conformal field theory. We also present a new description of the difference between the minimum and the maximum value (the value near the critical point) of holographic subregion complexity as a resource for doing computational work to prepare the state near the critical point from the state far from it. We also calculate the critical exponent.

In order to find the analytical results we consider some specific regimes of the parameter space. We find that the non-conformal effects decrease the redefined HEE and increase the redefined HMI and EoP in the all studied regimes. On the other side, the temperature effects increase (decrease) the redefined HEE (HMI) in the all studied regimes while it has no definite effect on the redefined EoP. Finally, from the information point of view, we find that in the vicinity of the phase transition the zero temperature state is more favorable than the finite temperature one.

We study holographic subregion complexity in a spatially anisotropic field theory, which expresses a confinement-deconfinement phase transition. Its holographic dual is a five-dimensional anisotropic holographic model characterized by a Van der Waals-like phase transition between small and large black holes. We propose a new interpretation from the informational perspective to determine the stable and unstable thermodynamically solutions. According to this proposal, the states which need (more) less information to be specified characterize the (un) stable solutions. We similarly offer an interpretation to determine the stable and unstable solutions based on the resource of a computational machine, such that the solutions are (un) stable if computational resource (decreases) increases with the increase of temperature. We observe that the effect of anisotropy on holographic subregion complexity is decreasing. This decreasing effect can be interpreted by considering a whole closed system consisting of the state and its environment in which the complexity of the mixed state decreases and complexity of the environment increases.

We consider a strongly coupled field theory with a critical point and nonzero chemical potential at finite temperature, which is dual to an asymptotically AdS charged black hole. We study the evolution of the rescaled holographic subregion complexity near and far from the critical point. We explain two distinct concepts of complexity in this theory and discuss that the state under study is complex based on how much information is needed to specify the state and is simple according to how many operations have to be done to reach the state. It has been reported before that time evolution of holographic subregion complexity contradicts the second law of complexity in these AdS-Vaidya-like geometries, but we try to provide a compatible interpretation. We justify decreasing of complexity using an increasing number of microstates of the mixed state and speculate about the description of the relative complexity of the initial state and the final state as a resource. We propose that in this process complexity of the mixed state decreases and complexity of the environment increases. We also observe that in this model, the rescaled holographic subregion complexity is a good observable for probing the dynamical critical exponent.

Using holographic idea, we study the entanglement of purification in a field theory with a critical point in intermediate and low temperature regime. This theory includes temperature $T$ as well as chemical potential $μ$. In the intermediate regime, due to chemical potential, we observe that new terms proportional to temperature square appear in the final result of entanglement of purification or equivalently, apart from $T^0$ and $T^4$ terms in the case of $μ=0$, it contains the terms proportional to $T^2$. Our results also indicate that the entanglement of purification, i.e. the correlation between subsystems, can decrease or increase depending on the value of $\fracμ{T}$ when the other parameters are kept fixed. However, in the low temperature limit, the correlation always decreases, comparing to the $μ=0$ case, independent of the value of $\fracμ{T}$ when the other parameters do not alter. The existence of a critical point in the theory changes the behavior of entanglement of purification in such a way that the entanglement of purification experiences a maximum or minimum. Moreover, near the critical point, we analytically show that the critical exponent is equal to 0.5 in both regimes and also the term proportional to $T^2$ changes sign and becomes negative in the intermediate regime.

We study holographically the zero and finite temperature behavior of the potential energy and holographic subregion complexity corresponding to a probe meson in a non-conformal model. We observe that in zero and low temperature non-conformality has a decreasing effect on the dimensionless meson potential energy. However, non-conformal corrections increase absolute value of the dimensionless holographic subregion complexity in both zero and finite temperature which means the non-conformal state needs less information to be specified. In other words, considering the effect of non-conformality, the less bounded meson state needs less information to be specified. In low temperature limits, thermal corrections decrease meson potential energy and do not have a specific effect on holographic subregion complexity. We find that in the vicinity of the phase transition, the zero temperature meson state is more favorable than the finite temperature state, from the holographic subregion complexity point of view.

Therefore, the entanglement of purification distinguishes the critical point in the field theory. We also discuss the dependence of the holographic entanglement of purification on the various parameters of the theories. Moreover, the critical exponent is calculated.

The holographic complexity has been studied in a background which includes a critical point in the dual field theory. We have examined how the complexity rate and the saturation time of dynamical variables in the theory behave as one moves towards the critical point. Two significant results of our analysis are that (i) it takes more time for the complexity in field theory dual to become time dependent as one moves away from the critical point and (ii) near the critical point the complexity starts evolving linearly in time sooner than the other points away from it. We also observe different behaviour for complexity rate in action and volume prescriptions. In action prescription we have used the time scales in theory to obtain the dynamical critical exponent and interestingly have observed that different time scales produce the same value up to very small error.

We observe that the symmetry breaking does not play any role in the phase space, phase of parameters of sub-systems, and the length of disentangling transition. Nevertheless, mutual and tripartite information indeed depend on the rate of symmetry breaking. We also find that for large enough values of $δt$ the quantity $t_{eq}δt^{-1}$, where $δt$ and $t_{eq}$ are injection time and equilibration time respectively, behaves universally, $i.e.$ its value is independent of length of separation between sub-systems. The dependence of the rescaled equilibration time on different parameters of the field theories with a holographic dual has been investigated in this paper. We consider field theories with nonzero chemical potential at finite temperature which are dual to asymptotically AdS charged black holes. We examine a dynamical probe scalar operator where its dynamics is due to a time-dependent source, quantum quench, or out-of-equilibrium initial condition in field theory with fixed or varying temperature and chemical potential. We observe that the behavior of the scalar operator equilibration time with respect to temperature or chemical potential can not be predicted merely by field theory parameters and depends on how fast the energy is injected into the system. It is shown that in field theories with critical point the rescaled equilibration time is shorter for thermodynamically stable systems. We also observe that the rescaled equilibration time as one approaches the critical point enhances and acquires an infinite slope though its value remains finite. We show that for fast quenches, even though the system is far from equilibrium, the dynamical critical exponent is the same as the one reported for quasi-normal modes in the same background. However for slow quenches the dynamical critical exponent picks up a different value.

Using the gauge/gravity duality, we investigate the evolution of an out-of-equilibrium strongly-coupled plasma from the viewpoint of the two-point function of scalar gauge-invariant operators with large conformal dimension. This system is out of equilibrium due to the presence of anisotropy and/or a massive scalar field. Considering various functions for the initial anisotropy and scalar field, we conclude that the effect of the anisotropy on the evolution of the two-point function is considerably more than the effect of the scalar field. We also show that the ordering of the equilibration time of the one-point function for the non-probe scalar field and the correlation function between two points with a fixed separation can be reversed by changing the initial configuration of the plasma, when the system is out of the equilibrium due to the presence of at least two different sources like our problem. In addition, we find the equilibration time of the two-point function to be linearly increasing with respect to the separation of the two points with a fixed slope, regardless of the initial configuration that we start with. Finally we observe that, for larger separations the geodesic connecting two points on the boundary crosses the event horizon after it has reached its final equilibrium value, meaning that the two-point function can probe behind the event horizon.

The holographic equilibration of a far-from-equilibrium strongly coupled gauge theory is investigated. The dynamics of a probe D7-brane in an AdS-Vaidya background is studied in the presence of an external time-dependent electric field. Defining the equilibration times $t_{eq}^c$ and $t_{eq}^j$, at which condensation and current relax to their final equilibrated values, receptively, the smallness of transition time $k_M$ or $k_E$ is enough to observe a universal behaviour for re-scaled equilibration times $k_M k_E (t_{eq}^c)^{-2}$ and $k_M k_E (t_{eq}^j)^{-2}$. Moreover, regardless of the values for $k_M$ and $k_E$, $t_{eq}^c/t_{eq}^j$ also behaves universally for large enough value of the ratio of the final electric field to final temperature. Then a simple discussion of the static case reveals that $t_{eq}^c \leq t_{eq}^j$. For an out-of-equilibrium process, our numerical results show that, apart from the cases for which $k_E$ is small, the static time ordering persists.

In the system we consider in this paper there are two ways where the state under study can deviate from its equilibrium: anisotropic pressure and time-dependent expectation value of a scalar operator with Δ=3. In the gravity theory, this system corresponds to Einstein's general relativity with a non-trivial metric, including the anisotropy function, coupled to a massive scalar matter field. We study the effect of different initial configurations for scalar field and anisotropy function on physical processes such as thermalization, i.e. time evolution of event horizon, equilibration of the expectation value of scalar operator and isotropization. We exploit the AdS/CFT correspondence to investigate thermalization in an N=2 strongly coupled gauge theory including massless fundamental matter (quark). More precisely, we consider the response of a zero temperature state of the gauge theory under variation of an external electric field leading to a time-dependent current. The holographic dual of the above set-up is given by introducing a time-dependent electric field on the probe D7-brane embedded in an AdS_5 X S^5 background. In the dual gravity theory, due to a time-dependent electric field an apparent horizon forms on the brane which, according to AdS/CFT dictionary, is the counterpart of the thermalization process in the gauge theory. We classify different functions for time-dependent electric field and study their effect on the apparent horizon formation. In the case of pulse functions where the electric field varies from zero to zero, apart from non-equilibrium phase, we observe that two apparent horizons form on the brane. On the gauge theory side, it means that the state of the gauge theory experiences two different temperatures during the time evolution.

Using holography we have studied the time-dependent potential of a quark-antiquark pair in a dynamical strongly coupled plasma. The time-dependent plasma, whose dynamics is originated from the energy injection, is dual to AdS-Vaidya background. The quark-antiquark pair is represented by the endpoints of a string stretched from the boundary to the bulk. The evolution of the system is studied by evaluating the potential between quark and anti-quark, extracted from the expectation value of the Wilson loop, throughout the process. Our results show that the time-dependent potential depends on the speed of injecting energy as well as the final temperature of the plasma. For high enough temperatures and rapid energy injection, the potential starts oscillating around its equilibrium value, immediately after the injection.

We study electric field quench in N=2 strongly coupled gauge theory, using the AdS/CFT correspondence. To do so, we consider the aforementioned system which is subjected to a time-dependent electric field indicating an out of equilibrium system. Defining the equilibration time t_{eq}, at which the system relaxes to its final equilibrium state after injecting the energy, we find that the rescaled equilibriation time k^{-1}t_{eq} decreases as the transition time k increases. Therefore, we expect that for sufficiently large transition time, k ->infinity, the relaxation of the system to its final equilibrium can be an adiabatic process. On the other hand, we observe a universal behavior for the fast quenches, k << 1, meaning that the rescaled equilibration time does not depend on the final value of the time-dependent electric field. Our calculations generalized to systems in various dimensions also confirm universalization process which seems to be a typical feature of all strongly coupled gauge theories that admit a gravitational dual.

The dynamics of a probe D7-brane in an asymptotically AdS-Vaidya background has been investigated in the presence of an external magnetic field. Holographically, this is dual to the dynamical meson melting in the N = 2 super Yang-Milles theory. If the final temperature of the system is large enough, the probe D7-brane will dynamically cross the horizon (black hole embedding). By turning on the external magnetic field and raising it sufficiently, the final embedding of the corresponding D7-brane changes to Minkowski embedding. In the field theory side, this means that the mesons which melt due to the raise in the temperature, will form bound states again by applying an external magnetic field. We will also show that the evolution of the system to its final equilibrium state is postponed due to the presence of the magnetic field.

An anisotropic thermal plasma phase of a strongly coupled gauge theory can be holographically modelled by an anisotropic AdS black hole. The temperature and anisotropy parameter of the AdS black hole background of interest [1] is specified by the location of the horizon and the value of the Dilaton field at the horizon. Interestingly, for the first time, we obtain two functions for the values of the horizon and Dilaton field in terms of the temperature and anisotropy parameter. Then by introducing a number of spinning probe D7-branes in the anisotropic background, we compute the value of the chiral magnetic effect (CME). We observe that in the isotropic and anisotropic plasma the value of the CME is equal for the massless quarks. However, at fixed temperature, raising the anisotropy in the system will increase the value of the CME for the massive quarks.

We use gauge/gravity duality to investigate the effect of thermal fluctuations on the dissociation of the quarkonium meson in strongly coupled $(3+1)$-dimensional gauge theories. This is done by studying the instability and probable first order phase transition of a probe D7-brane in the dual gravity theory. We explicitly show that for the Minkowski embeddings with their tips close to the horizon in the background, the long wavelength thermal fluctuations lead to an imaginary term in their action signaling an instability in the system. Due to this instability, a phase transition is expected. On the gauge theory side, it indicates that the quarkonium mesons are not stable and dissociate in the plasma. Identifying the imaginary part of the probe barne action with the thermal width of the mesons, we observe that the thermal width increases as one decreases the mass of the quarks. Also keeping the mass fixed, thermal width increases by temperature as expected.

The melting of a heavy quark-antiquark bound state depends on the screening phenomena associated with the binding energy, as well as scattering phenomena associated with the imaginary part of the potential. We study the imaginary part of the static potential of heavy quarkonia moving in the strongly coupled plasma. The imaginary potential dependence on the velocity of the traveling bound states is calculated. Non-zero velocity leads to increase of the absolute value of the imaginary potential. The enhancement is stronger when the quarkonia move orthogonal to the quark-gluon plasma maximizing the flux between the pair. Moreover, we estimate the thermal width of the moving bound state and find it enhanced compared to the static one. Our results imply that the moving quarkonia dissociate easier than the static ones in agreement with the expectations.

According to the gauge/gravity duality, this time can be identified with the inverse of the imaginary part of the frequency of the quasinormal modes, $ω_I$, in the (an)isotropic black hole background. In the high temperature limit, we numerically show that at fixed temperature(entropy density) the life time of the mesons decreases(increases) as the anisotropy parameter raises. For general case, at fixed temperature we introduce a polynomial function for $ω_I$ and observe that the meson life time decreases. Moreover, we realize that $(s/T^3)^6$, where $s$ and $T$ are entropy density and temperature of the plasma respectively, can be expressed as a function of anisotropy parameter over temperature. Interestingly, this function is a Padé approximant.

We discuss the (spontaneous) chiral symmetry breaking in a strongly coupled anisotropic quark-gluon plasma (QGP) in the presence of the magnetic field, using holography. The physical quantities related to the chiral symmetry breaking (m;B_c) distinguish between the effects of the anisotropy and magnetic field on the plasma. Anisotropy affects the system similar to the temperature and for its larger values heavier quarks can live in the QGP without getting condensed. Raising the anisotropy in the system will also increase the value of the critical magnetic field, B_c, at which the spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking happens. Both of these growths are even more when the magnetic field is applied perpendicular to the anisotropy direction. Such behaviour persists in the high temperature limit where the temperature is kept fixed. However, when the entropy density is held fixed, as one increases the anisotropy, lighter mesons melt when the magnetic field is applied along the anisotropy direction, in contrast to when the magnetic field is perpendicular to the anisotropy direction.

We also study the open string metric and the fluctuations of the probe brane in such a set-up. The apparent horizon forms due to the time-dependent change in the baryon number chemical potential, the injection of baryons in the gauge theory. We will numerically show that the thermalization happens even faster in the presence of the magnetic field on the probe brane. We calculate the thermalization time-scale due to a time-dependent change in the baryon number chemical potential, baryon injection in the field theory. We observe that for such a general system it has a universal behaviour depending only on the t'Hooft coupling constant and the two parameters which describe how we inject baryons into the system. We show that this universal behaviour is independent of the details of the theory whether it is conformal and/or supersymmetric.

We study the energy lost by an accelerating quark probe in the quark-gluon plasma produced in the heavy ion collisions in an approximate setting where the acceleration of the probe is due to uniform circular motion. The energy loss rate of the rotating probe is calculated at strong coupling in the confining SU(N) gauge theory based on N D4 branes on a circle, using the rotating string solutions in the dual gravitational background. The system is known to exhibit a confinement-deconfinement transition at a finite temperature T_c. We investigate energy loss both in the low and the high T phases. The high T phase is similar to the previously studied case of the conformal plasma, yet we find qualitative differences due to non-conformality of the underlying theory. The low T phase, on the other hand exhibits novel interesting behavior: We find a dual gravitational mechanism that yields a lower bound on the emitted energy of the rotating quark, proportional to the mass gap in the glueball spectrum. The low T energy loss is argued to be completely due to glueball brehmstrahlung, hence the energy loss rate calculated here determines the Lienard potential for syncrotron radiation in this confining gauge theory at strong coupling.

In this paper, for a given sequentially Yoneda-complete T_1 quasi-metric space (X,d), the domain theoretic models of the hyperspace K_0(X) of nonempty compact subsets of (X,d) are studied. To this end, the $ω$-Plotkin domain of the space of formal balls BX, denoted by CBX is considered. This domain is given as the chain completion of the set of all finite subsets of BX with respect to the Egli-Milner relation. Further, a map $φ:K_0(X)\rightarrow CBX$ is established and proved that it is an embedding whenever K_0(X) is equipped with the Vietoris topology and respectively CBX with the Scott topology. Moreover, if any compact subset of (X,d) is d^{-1}-precompact, φis an embedding with respect to the topology of Hausdorff quasi-metric H_d on K_0(X). Therefore, it is concluded that (CBX,\sqsubseteq,φ) is an $ω$-computational model for the hyperspace K_0(X) endowed with the Vietoris and respectively the Hausdorff topology. Next, an algebraic sequentially Yoneda-complete quasi-metric D on CBX$ is introduced in such a way that the specialization order $\sqsubseteq_D$ is equivalent to the usual partial order of CBX and, furthermore, $φ:({\cal K}_0(X),H_d)\rightarrow({\bf C}{\bf B}X,D)$ is an isometry. This shows that (CBX,\sqsubseteq,φ,D) is a quantitative $ω$-computational model for (K_(X),H_d).

We consider D3-brane action in the maximally supersymmetric type IIB plane-wave background. Upon fixing the light-cone gauge, we obtain the light-cone Hamiltonian which is manifestly supersymmetric. The 1/2 BPS solutions of this theory (solutions which preserve 16 supercharges) are either of the form of spherical three branes, the giant gravitons, or zero size point like branes. We then construct specific classes of 1/4 BPS solutions of this theory in which static electric field on the brane is turned on. These solutions are deformations about either of the two 1/2 BPS solutions. In particular, we study in some detail 1/4 BPS configurations with electric dipole on the three sphere giant, i.e. BIons on the giant gravitons, which we hence call BIGGons. We also study BPS configurations corresponding to turning on a background uniform constant electric field. As a result of this background electric field the three sphere giant is deformed to squashed sphere, while the zero size point like branes turn into circular or straight fundamental strings in the plane-wave background, with their tension equal to the background electric field.

Abstract:
In this paper we continue analysis of the Matrix theory describing the DLCQ of type IIB string theory on AdS_5 x S^5 (and/or the plane-wave) background, i.e. the Tiny Graviton Matrix Theory (TGMT)[hep-th/0406214]. We study and classify 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8 BPS solutions of the TGMT which are generically of the form of rotating three brane giants. These are branes whose shape are deformed three spher…

These are branes whose shape are deformed three spheres and hyperboloids. In lack of a classification of such ten dimensional type IIb supergravity configurations, we focus on the dual N=4 four dimensional 1/2, 1/4 and one 1/8 BPS operators and show that they are in one-to-one correspondence with the states of the same set of quantum numbers in TGMT. This provides further evidence in support of the Matrix theory.

Abstract:
In this paper we consider all consistent extensions of the AdS_5 x S^5 superalgebra, psu(2,2|4), to incorporate brane charges by introducing both bosonic and fermionic (non)central extensions. We study the Inonu-Wigner contraction of the extended psu(2,2|4) under the Penrose limit to obtain the most general consistent extension of the plane-wave superalgebra and compare these extensions with the…

In this paper we consider all consistent extensions of the AdS_5 x S^5 superalgebra, psu(2,2|4), to incorporate brane charges by introducing both bosonic and fermionic (non)central extensions. We study the Inonu-Wigner contraction of the extended psu(2,2|4) under the Penrose limit to obtain the most general consistent extension of the plane-wave superalgebra and compare these extensions with the possible BPS (flat or spherical) brane configurations in the plane-wave background. We give an explicit realization of some of these extensions in terms of the Tiny Graviton Matrix Theory (TGMT)[hep-th/0406214] which is the 0+1 dimensional gauge theory conjectured to describe the DLCQ of strings on the AdS_5 x S^5 and/or the plane-wave background.
