The semiconductor industry is experiencing a significant shift from traditional methods of shrinking devices and reducing costs. Chip designers actively seek new technological solutions to enhance cost-effectiveness while incorporating more features into the silicon footprint. One promising approach is Heterogeneous Integration (HI), which involves advanced packaging techniques to integrate independently designed and manufactured components using the most suitable process technology. However, adopting HI introduces design and security challenges. To enable HI, research and development of advanced packaging is crucial. The existing research raises the possible security threats in the advanced packaging supply chain, as most of the Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facilities/vendors are offshore. To deal with the increasing demand for semiconductors and to ensure a secure semiconductor supply chain, there are sizable efforts from the United States (US) government to bring semiconductor fabrication facilities onshore. However, the US-based advanced packaging capabilities must also be ramped up to fully realize the vision of establishing a secure, efficient, resilient semiconductor supply chain. Our effort was motivated to identify the possible bottlenecks and weak links in the advanced packaging supply chain based in the US.

Abstract:
We investigate exact and near resonant triad interactions (RTI) in a two-dimensional stably stratified uniform shear flow confined between two infinite parallel walls in the absence of viscous and diffusive effects. RTI occur when three interacting waves satisfy the resonance conditions of the form $k_1 \pm k_2 = k_3$ and $ω_1 \pm ω_2 = ω_3$ with $k_i$ and $ω_i$ being the wavenumber and frequency…

We investigate exact and near resonant triad interactions (RTI) in a two-dimensional stably stratified uniform shear flow confined between two infinite parallel walls in the absence of viscous and diffusive effects. RTI occur when three interacting waves satisfy the resonance conditions of the form $k_1 \pm k_2 = k_3$ and $ω_1 \pm ω_2 = ω_3$ with $k_i$ and $ω_i$ being the wavenumber and frequency of the ith wave ($i \in {1,2,3}$), respectively. The linear stability problem is solved analytically, which gives the eigenfunctions in the form of the modified Bessel functions. It is identified that an interaction between two primary modes having the same frequency $ω$ but different wavenumbers $k_m$ and $k_n$ produces two different secondary modes: one time-dependent (superharmonic) mode having frequency $2ω$ and wavenumber $k_m +k_n$, and the other time-independent (subharmonic) mode with $ω= 0$ and wavenumber $k_m - k_n$. The differential equation governing the spatial amplitude of the superharmonic mode is solved numerically as well as analytically using the method of variation of parameters. It turns out that the linear operator associated with the differential equation of the superharmonic mode is the same as the linear stability operator and that the solvability condition of the differential equation is found to be associated with the existence of RTI. The existence of resonant triad interactions predicted by the dispersion relation, are justified by showing the divergence of the spatial amplitude of superharmonic mode. Various cases of wave interactions in a stably stratified shear flow are analysed in the presence of a resonant triad for various frequencies and linear stratifications.

In this paper we have investigated the dynamics of a damped harmonic oscillator in the presence of an electromagnetic field. The transients for the two dimensional harmonic oscillator imply about the modulation of the frequency of the oscillator by the velocity dependent non conservative force from an applied magnetic field. Except a special condition, the motion is in general quasi periodic nature even in the absence of damping. Another interesting finding is that the magnetic field may induce an asymmetric splitting of the spectrum of the output signal with two peaks in the case of a driven damped two dimensional harmonic oscillator. One more additional peak may appear for the three dimensional case. In some cases the spectrum may have similarity with the Normal Zeeman Effect. At the same time one may observe to appear the anti resonance phenomenon even for the driven damped cyclotron motion where the system with the purely non conservative force fields is driven by an electric field. Finally, our calculation exhibits how the magnetic field can modulate the phase difference (between input and output signals) and the efficiency like quantity of the energy storing process. Thus the present study might be applicable in the areas related to the refractive index, the barrier crossing dynamics and autonomous stochastic resonance, respectively.

It seems that a stochastic system must be a nonlinear one to observe the phenomenon, noise induced transition. But in the present paper, we have demonstrated that the phenomenon may be observed even in a linear stochastic process where both deterministic and stochastic parts are linear functions of the relevant phase space variables. The shape of the stationary distribution of particles (which are confined in a harmonic potential) may change on increasing the strength of the applied fluctuating magnetic field. The probability density may vary non monotonically with an increase in the coordinate of a Brownian particle. Thus the distribution of particles may deviate strongly from the Boltzmann one and it is a unique signature of the fluctuating magnetic field. Then we are motivated strongly to study the distribution of particles in a nonlinear stochastic system where the Brownian particles are confined in a bi-stable potential energy field in the presence of the fluctuating magnetic field. With a relatively large strength of the fluctuating field, the distribution of particles may be a strange one where many islands may appear which are not expected from the given potential energy field. It may offer an explanation to describe the phenomenon, the reduction of the current in a semiconductor in the presence of a time dependent magnetic field.

Objective: Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have demonstrated promise in automated cardiac magnetic resonance image segmentation. However, when using CNNs in a large real-world dataset, it is important to quantify segmentation uncertainty and identify segmentations which could be problematic. In this work, we performed a systematic study of Bayesian and non-Bayesian methods for estimating uncertainty in segmentation neural networks.
Methods: We evaluated Bayes by Backprop, Monte Carlo Dropout, Deep Ensembles, and Stochastic Segmentation Networks in terms of segmentation accuracy, probability calibration, uncertainty on out-of-distribution images, and segmentation quality control.
Results: We observed that Deep Ensembles outperformed the other methods except for images with heavy noise and blurring distortions. We showed that Bayes by Backprop is more robust to noise distortions while Stochastic Segmentation Networks are more resistant to blurring distortions. For segmentation quality control, we showed that segmentation uncertainty is correlated with segmentation accuracy for all the methods. With the incorporation of uncertainty estimates, we were able to reduce the percentage of poor segmentation to 5% by flagging 31--48% of the most uncertain segmentations for manual review, substantially lower than random review without using neural network uncertainty (reviewing 75--78% of all images).
Conclusion: This work provides a comprehensive evaluation of uncertainty estimation methods and showed that Deep Ensembles outperformed other methods in most cases.
Significance: Neural network uncertainty measures can help identify potentially inaccurate segmentations and alert users for manual review.

One prototypical instability in granular flows is the shear-banding instability, in which a uniform granular shear flow breaks into alternating bands of dense and dilute clusters of particles having low and high shear (shear stress or shear rate), respectively. In this work, the shear-banding instability in an arbitrarily inelastic granular shear flow is analyzed through the linear stability analysis of granular hydrodynamic equations closed with Navier--Stokes-level constitutive relations. It is shown that the choice of appropriate constitutive relations plays an important role in predicting the shear-banding instability. A parametric study is carried out to study the effect of the restitution coefficient, channel width and mean density. Two global criteria relating the control parameters are found for the onset of the shear-banding instability.
