Dark Energy Survey five-year supernovae data (DES 5YR SNe) in conjunction with Planck CMB and Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) BAO data has detected a strong dynamical dark energy deviation from the $Λ$CDM model. Here, we shift the focus of DES data to the pressureless matter sector in the $Λ$CDM model by studying the matter density parameter $Ω_m$. Employing frequentist profile likelihoods, we demonstrate that $Ω_m$ increases with effective redshift in the DES dataset at up to $2.5 σ$ level. At the highest redshifts, one encounters negative dark energy densities $Ω_m > 1$. Our findings corroborate earlier observations in Pantheon and Pantheon+ datasets with an independent SNe dataset with a higher effective redshift. In an appendix, we confirm that curvature $Ω_k$ decreases with effective redshift disfavouring a flat Universe in higher redshift DES SNe at $> 3 σ$. Our choice of $Ω_k$ prior leads to an underestimation of the tension with a flat Universe.

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is reporting unexpectedly massive high redshift galaxies that appear challenging from the $Λ$CDM perspective. Interpreted as a problem of cosmological origin, this necessitates Planck underestimating either matter density $Ω_m$ or physical matter density $Ω_m h^2$ at higher redshifts. Through standard frequentist profile likelihoods, we identify corroborating quasar (QSO) and gamma-ray burst (GRB) data sets where $Ω_m$ increases with effective redshift $z_{\textrm{eff}}$, with $Ω_m$ remaining anomalously large at higher redshifts. While the variation of $Ω_m$ with $z_{\textrm{eff}}$ is at odds with the $Λ$CDM model, demarcating frequentist confidence intervals through differences in $χ^2$ in profile likelihoods, the prevailing technique in the literature, points to $3.9 σ$ and $7.9 σ$ tensions between GRBs and QSOs, respectively, and Planck-$Λ$CDM. We explain the approximations inherent in the existing profile likelihood literature, and highlight fresh methodology that generalises the prescription. We show that alternative methods, including Bayesian approaches, lead to similar tensions. Finally, in the large sample limit, we show that Feldman-Cousins prescription for frequentist confidence intervals in the presence of a boundary (prior) leads to confidence intervals that are bounded above by Wilks' theorem.

We independently confirm that this anomaly drives the preference for $w_0 > -1$ in DESI data confronted to the $w_0 w_a$CDM model. We show that redshift bins of DESI constraints allow $Ω_m$ to wiggle at the $\sim 2 σ$ level with increasing effective redshift in the $Λ$CDM model. Given that LRG data at $z_{\textrm{eff}} = 0.51$ is at odds with Type Ia supernovae in overlapping redshifts, we expect that this anomaly will decrease in statistical significance with future DESI data releases leaving an increasing $Ω_m$ trend with effective redshift at higher redshifts. We estimate the significance of the latter in DESI data at $\sim 1.8 σ$ and comment on how it dovetails with independent observations. It is imperative to understand what makes DESI LRG data at $z_{\textrm{eff}} = 0.51$ an outlier when it comes to $Ω_m$ determinations.

$Λ$CDM tensions are by definition model dependent; one sees anomalies through the prism of $Λ$CDM. Thus, progress towards tension resolution necessitates checking the consistency of the $Λ$CDM model to localise missing physics either in redshift or scale. Since the Universe is dynamical and redshift is a proxy for time, it is imperative to first perform consistency checks involving redshift, then consistency checks involving scale, as the next steps to settle the ``systematics versus new physics" debate and foster informed model building. We present a review of the hierarchy of assumptions underlying the $Λ$CDM cosmological model and comment on whether relaxing them can address the tensions. We focus on the lowest lying fruit of identifying missing physics through the identification of redshift dependent $Λ$CDM model fitting parameters. We highlight recent progress made on ${S_8:= σ_8 \sqrt{Ω_{\rm m}/0.3}}$ tension and elucidate how similar progress can be made on $H_0$ tension. Our discussions indicate that $H_0$ tension, equivalently a redshift dependent $H_0$, and a redshift dependent $S_8$ imply a problem with background $Λ$CDM cosmology.

Hubble tension is a problem in one-dimensional (1D) posteriors, since local $H_0$ determinations are only sensitive to a single parameter. Projected 1D posteriors for $Λ$CDM cosmological parameters become more non-Gaussian with increasing effective redshift when the model is fitted to redshift binned data in the late Universe. We explain mathematically why this non-Gaussianity arises and show using observational Hubble data (OHD) that Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) marginalisation leads to 1D posteriors that fail to track the $χ^2$ minimum at $68\%$ confidence level in high redshift bins. To remedy this limitation of MCMC, we resort to profile distributions as a complementary technique. Doing so, we observe that $z \gtrsim 1$ cosmic chronometer (CC) data currently prefers a non-evolving (constant) Hubble parameter over a Planck-$Λ$CDM cosmology at $\sim 2 σ$. Within the Hubble tension debate, it is imperative that subsamples of data sets with differing redshifts yield similar $H_0$ values. In addition, we confirm that MCMC degeneracies observed in 2D posteriors are not due to curves of constant $χ^2$. Finally, on the assumption that the Planck-$Λ$CDM cosmological model is correct, using profile distributions we confirm a $>2 σ$ discrepancy with Planck-$Λ$CDM in a combination of CC and baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) data beyond $ z \sim 1.5$. This confirms a discrepancy reported earlier with fresh methodology.

The variations are driven largely by variations in absolute magnitude from SN in Cepheid hosts, but are reinforced by SN in the Hubble flow. $H_0$ is larger in a hemisphere encompassing the CMB dipole direction. The variations we see exceed the errors on the recent SH0ES determination, $H_0 = 73.04 \pm 1.04$ km/s/Mpc, but are not large enough to explain early versus late Universe discrepancies in the Hubble constant. Nevertheless, the Cepheid-SN distance ladder is anisotropic at current precision. The anisotropy may be due to a breakdown in the Cosmological Principle, or mundanely due to a statistical fluctuation in a small sample of SN in Cepheid host galaxies.

Hubble constant $H_0$ and weighted amplitude of matter fluctuations $S_8$ determinations are biased to higher and lower values, respectively, in the late Universe with respect to early Universe values inferred by the Planck collaboration within flat $Λ$CDM cosmology. If these anomalies are physical, i.e. not due to systematics, they naively suggest that $H_0$ decreases and $S_8$ increases with effective redshift. Here, subjecting matter density today $Ω_{m}$ to a prior, corresponding to a combination of Planck CMB and BAO data, we perform a consistency test of the Planck-$Λ$CDM cosmology and show that $S_8$ determinations from $f σ_8(z)$ constraints increase with effective redshift. Due to the redshift evolution, a $\sim 3 σ$ tension in the $S_8$ parameter with Planck at lower redshifts remarkably becomes consistent with Planck within $1 σ$ at high redshifts. This provides corroborating support for an $S_8$ discrepancy that is physical in origin. We further confirm that the flat $Λ$CDM model is preferred over a theoretically ad hoc model with a jump in $S_8$ at a given redshift. In the absence of the CMB+BAO $Ω_m$ prior, we find that $> 3 σ$ tensions with Planck in low redshift data are ameliorated by shifts in the parameters in high redshift data. Results here and elsewhere suggest that the $Λ$CDM cosmological parameters are redshift dependent. Fitting parameters that evolve with redshift is a recognisable hallmark of model breakdown.

Within the Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) framework, the Hubble constant $H_0$ is an integration constant. Thus, consistency of the model demands observational constancy of $H_0$. We demonstrate redshift evolution of best fit $Λ$CDM parameters $(H_0, Ω_{m})$ in Pantheon+ supernove (SNe). Redshift evolution of best fit cosmological parameters is a prerequisite to finding a statistically significant evolution as well as identifying alternative models that are competitive with $Λ$CDM in a Bayesian model comparison. To assess statistical significance, we employ three different methods: i) Bayesian model comparison, ii) mock simulations and iii) profile distributions. The first shows a marginal preference for the vanilla $Λ$CDM model over an ad hoc model with 3 additional parameters and an unphysical jump in cosmological parameters at $z=1$. From mock simulations, we estimate the statistical significance of redshift evolution of best fit parameters and negative dark energy density ($Ω_m > 1$) to be in the $1-2 σ$ range, depending on the criteria employed. Importantly, in direct comparison to the same analysis with the earlier Pantheon sample we find that statistical significance of redshift evolution of best fit parameters has increased, as expected for a physical effect. Our profile distribution analysis demonstrates a shift in $(H_0, Ω_m)$ in excess of $95\%$ confidence level for SNe with redshifts $z > 1$ and also shows that a degeneracy in MCMC posteriors is not equivalent to a curve of constant $χ^2$. Our findings can be interpreted as a statistical fluctuation or unexplored systematics in Pantheon+ or $Λ$CDM model breakdown. The first two possibilities are disfavoured by similar trends in independent probes.

We construct observational Hubble $H(z)$ and angular diameter distance $D_{A}(z)$ mock data with baseline Planck $Λ$CDM input values, before fitting the $Λ$CDM model to study evolution of probability density functions (PDFs) of best fit cosmological parameters $(H_0, Ω_m, Ω_k)$ across redshift bins. We find that PDF peaks only agree with the input parameters in low redshift ($z \lesssim 1$) bins for $H(z)$ and $D_{A}(z)$ constraints, and in all redshift bins when $H(z)$ and $D_{A}(z)$ constraints are combined. When input parameters are not recovered, we observe that PDFs exhibit non-Gaussian tails towards larger $Ω_m$ values and shifts to (less pronounced) peaks at smaller $Ω_m$ values. This flattening of the PDF is expected as $H(z)$ and $D_{A}(z)$ observations only constrain combinations of cosmological parameters at higher redshifts, so uniform PDFs are expected. Our analysis leaves us with a choice to bin high redshift data in the knowledge that we may be unlikely to recover Planck values, or conduct full sample analysis that biases $Λ$CDM inferences to the lower redshift Universe.

Using the fact that the comoving angular diameter distance to the last scattering surface is strictly constrained almost model independently, we show that, for any model agreeing with the standard $Λ$CDM model on its background dynamics at $z\sim0$ and size of the comoving sound horizon at last scattering, the deviations of the Hubble radius from the one of the standard $Λ$CDM model must be a member of the set of admissible wavelets. The family of models characterized by this framework also offers nontrivial oscillatory behaviours in various functions that define the kinematics of the Universe, even when the wavelets themselves are very simple. We also discuss the consequences of attributing these kinematics to, first, dark energy, and second, varying gravitational coupling strength. Utilizing some simplest wavelets, we demonstrate the competence of this framework in describing the baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) data without any modifications to the agreement with cosmic microwave background measurements. This framework also provides a natural explanation for the bumps found in nonparametric observational reconstructions of the Hubble parameter and dark energy density as compensations of the dips suggested by some BAO data, and questions the physical reality of their existence. We note that utilizing this framework on top of the models that agree with both the cosmic microwave background and local $H_0$ measurements but are held back by BAO data, one may resurrect these models through the wiggly nature of wavelets that can naturally accommodate the BAO data. Finally, we also suggest narrowing the plausible set of admissible wavelets to further improve our framework by imposing conditions from expected kinematics of a viable cosmological model or first principle fundamental physics such as energy conditions.

The Cosmological Principle (CP) -- the notion that the Universe is spatially isotropic and homogeneous on large scales -- underlies a century of progress in cosmology. It is conventionally formulated through the Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) cosmologies as the spacetime metric, and culminates in the successful and highly predictive $Λ$-Cold-Dark-Matter ($Λ$CDM) model. Yet, tensions have emerged within the $Λ$CDM model, most notably a statistically significant discrepancy in the value of the Hubble constant, $H_0$. Since the notion of cosmic expansion determined by a single parameter is intimately tied to the CP, implications of the $H_0$ tension may extend beyond $Λ$CDM to the CP itself. This review surveys current observational hints for deviations from the expectations of the CP, highlighting synergies and disagreements that warrant further study. Setting aside the debate about individual large structures, potential deviations from the CP include variations of cosmological parameters on the sky, discrepancies in the cosmic dipoles, and mysterious alignments in quasar polarizations and galaxy spins. While it is possible that a host of observational systematics are impacting results, it is equally plausible that precision cosmology may have outgrown the FLRW paradigm, an extremely pragmatic but non-fundamental symmetry assumption.

Flat $Λ$CDM cosmology is specified by two constant fitting parameters at the background level in the late Universe, the Hubble constant $H_0$ and matter density (today) $Ω_m$. Mathematically, $H_0$ and $Ω_m$ are either integration constants arising from solving ordinary differential equations or are directly related to integration constants. Seen in this context, if fits of the $Λ$CDM model to cosmological probes at different redshifts lead to different $(H_0, Ω_m)$ parameters, this is a mismatch between mathematics and observation. Here, in mock observational Hubble data (OHD) (geometric probes of expansion history) we demonstrate evolution in distributions of best fit parameters with effective redshift. As a result, considerably different $(H_0, Ω_m)$ best fits from Planck-$Λ$CDM cannot be precluded in high redshift bins. We explore if OHD, Type Ia supernovae and standardisable quasar samples exhibit redshift evolution of best fit $Λ$CDM parameters. In all samples, we confirm a decreasing $H_0$ and increasing $Ω_m$ trend with increasing bin redshift. Through comparison with mocks, we confirm that similar behaviour can arise randomly within the flat $Λ$CDM model with probabilities as low as $p = 0.0021$ ($3.1 \, σ$). We present complementary profile distribution analysis confirming the shifts in cosmological parameters in high redshift bins. In particular, we identify a redshift range where Planck $(H_0, Ω_m)$ values are disfavoured at $99.6 \%$ ($2.9 σ$) confidence level in a combination of OHD and supernovae data.

Quasars (QSOs) are extremely luminous active galatic nuclei currently observed up to redshift $z=7.642$. As such, they have the potential to be the next rung of the cosmic distance ladder beyond SNe Ia, if they can reliably be used as cosmological probes. The main issue in adopting QSOs as standard candles (similarly to Gamma-Ray Bursts) is the large intrinsic scatter in the relations between their observed properties. This could be overcome by finding correlations among their observables that are intrinsic to the physics of QSOs and not artifacts of selection biases and/or redshift evolution. The reliability of these correlations should be verified through well-established statistical tests. The correlation between the ultraviolet (UV) and X-ray fluxes developed by Risaliti \& Lusso is one of the most promising relations. We apply a statistical method to correct this relation for redshift evolution and selection biases. \textbf{Remarkably, we recover the the same parameters of the slope and the normalization as Risaliti \& Lusso. Our results establish the reliability of this relation, which is intrinsic to the QSO properties and not merely an effect of selection biases or redshift evolution. Hence,} the possibility to standardize QSOs as cosmological candles, thereby extending the Hubble diagram up to $z=7.54$.

Here, using the Risaliti-Lusso relation for standardizable QSOs, we demonstrate that the QSOs recover the \textit{same} Planck-$Λ$CDM Universe as Type Ia supernovae (SN), $Ω_m \approx 0.3$ at lower redshifts $ 0 < z \lesssim 0.7$, before transitioning to an Einstein-de Sitter Universe ($Ω_m =1$) at higher redshifts $z \gtrsim 1$. We illustrate the same trend, namely increasing $Ω_{m}$ and decreasing $H_0$ with redshift, in SN but poor statistics prevent a definitive statement. We explain physically why the trend is expected in the flat $Λ$CDM cosmology, illustrate the intrinsic bias and non-Gaussian tails with mock Pantheon data, and identify a similar trend in BAO below $z=1$. Our results highlight an intrinsic bias in the flat $Λ$CDM Universe, whereby $Ω_m$ increases, $H_0$ decreases and $S_8$ increases with effective redshift, thus providing a new perspective on $Λ$CDM tensions; even in a Planck-$Λ$CDM Universe the current tensions might have been expected.

In this paper we will list a few important goals that need to be addressed in the next decade, also taking into account the current discordances between the different cosmological probes, such as the disagreement in the value of the Hubble constant $H_0$, the $σ_8$--$S_8$ tension, and other less statistically significant anomalies. While these discordances can still be in part the result of systematic errors, their persistence after several years of accurate analysis strongly hints at cracks in the standard cosmological scenario and the necessity for new physics or generalisations beyond the standard model. In this paper, we focus on the $5.0\,σ$ tension between the {\it Planck} CMB estimate of the Hubble constant $H_0$ and the SH0ES collaboration measurements. After showing the $H_0$ evaluations made from different teams using different methods and geometric calibrations, we list a few interesting new physics models that could alleviate this tension and discuss how the next decade's experiments will be crucial. Moreover, we focus on the tension of the {\it Planck} CMB data with weak lensing measurements and redshift surveys, about the value of the matter energy density $Ω_m$, and the amplitude or rate of the growth of structure ($σ_8,fσ_8$). We list a few interesting models proposed for alleviating this tension, and we discuss the importance of trying to fit a full array of data with a single model and not just one parameter at a time. Additionally, we present a wide range of other less discussed anomalies at a statistical significance level lower than the $H_0$--$S_8$ tensions which may also constitute hints towards new physics, and we discuss possible generic theoretical approaches that can collectively explain the non-standard nature of these signals.[Abridged]

Modern cosmology rests on the working assumption that the Universe is isotropic and homogeneous at large scales. Here, we document a number of anomalous observations pointing to an anisotropic Universe in a direction consistent with the CMB dipole. If physical, this should be confirmed by any cosmological probe with sufficient data quality. To that end, we perform the first hemispherical decomposition of bright and dark standard siren $H_0$ determinations, finding that the maximum of the $H_0$ posterior is larger in the CMB dipole direction for dark sirens, but including the bright siren posterior reverses this conclusion. As may be expected, the limited number of GW observations is consistent with an isotropic Universe, but this can change going forward. It is imperative to repeat these tests as GW sources become more numerous and better localised.

In contrast, BAO data calibrated in an early $Λ$CDM universe are largely consistent with Planck-$Λ$CDM, $H_0 \sim 67.5$ km/s/Mpc. Employing a generic two parameter family of evolving equations of state (EoS) for dark energy (DE) $w_{\textrm{DE}}(z)$ and mock BAO data, we demonstrate that if i) $w_{\textrm{DE}}(z=0) < -1$ and ii) integrated DE density less than $Λ$CDM, then $H_0$ increases. EoS that violate these conditions at best lead to modest $H_0$ increases within $1 σ$. Tellingly, Quintessence and K-essence satisfy neither condition, whereas coupled Quintessence can only satisfy ii). Beyond these seminal DE Effective Field Theories (EFTs), we turn to explicit examples. Working model agnostically in an expansion in powers of redshift $z$, we show that Brans-Dicke/$f(R)$ and Kinetic Gravity Braiding models within the Horndeski class can lead to marginal and modest increases in $H_0$, respectively. We confirm that as far as increasing $H_0$ is concerned, no DE EFT model can outperform the phenomenological two parameter family of the DE models. Evidently, the late universe may no longer be large enough to accommodate $H_0$, BAO and DE described by EFT.

On the assumption that quasars (QSO) and gamma-ray bursts (GRB) represent \textit{standardisable candles}, we provide evidence that the Hubble constant $H_0$ adopts larger values in hemispheres aligned with the CMB dipole direction. If substantiated, this trend signals a departure from FLRW cosmology. In particular, QSOs show a definite trend, whereas our findings in GRBs are consistent with an isotropic Universe, but we show in a sample of GRBs calibrated with Type Ia supernovae (SN) that this conclusion may change as one focuses on GRBs more closely (mis)aligned with the CMB dipole direction. The statistical significance in QSOs alone is $\gtrsim 2 σ$ and when combined with similar trends in strong lensing, Type Ia SN and calibrated GRBs, this increases to $\sim 3 σ$. Our findings are consistent with reported discrepancies in the cosmic dipole and anisotropies in galaxy cluster scaling relations. The reported variations in $H_0$ across the sky suggest that Hubble tension may be a symptom of a deeper cosmological malaise.

Concretely, we record a $\sim 1$ km/s/Mpc variation in $H_0$ at antipodal points on the sky within the Pantheon sample, which is evident in the Low $z$ subsample ($z \lesssim 0.075$) and gets enhanced by higher redshift SN. Our work raises the possibility that we may be at the precision required to probe anisotropic Hubble expansions, while providing a concrete prediction for future inferences of $H_0$.

The tension between early and late Universe probes of the Hubble constant has motivated various new FLRW cosmologies. Here, we reanalyse the Hubble tension with a recent age of the Universe constraint. This allows us to restrict attention to matter and a dark energy sector that we treat without assuming a specific model. Assuming analyticity of the Hubble parameter $H(z)$, and a generic low redshift modification to flat $Λ$CDM, we find that low redshift data ($z \lesssim 2.5$) and well-motivated priors only permit a dark energy sector close to the cosmological constant $Λ$. This restriction rules out late Universe modifications within FLRW. We show that early Universe physics that alters the sound horizon can yield an upper limit of $H_0 \sim 71 \pm 1$ km/s/Mpc. Since various local determinations may be converging to $H_0 \sim 73$ km/s/Mpc, a breakdown of the FLRW framework is a plausible resolution. We outline how future data, in particular strongly lensed quasar data, could also provide further confirmations of such a resolution.

As a result, parametric DDE models suffer from a degree of arbitrariness and focusing too much on one model runs the risk that DDE may be overlooked. In particular, we show the ubiquitous Chevallier-Polarski-Linder model is one of the least sensitive to DDE. We also comment on ``wiggles" in $w(z)$ uncovered in non-parametric reconstructions. Concretely, we isolate the most relevant Fourier modes in the wiggles, model them and fit them back to the original data to confirm the wiggles at $\lesssim2σ$. We delve into the assumptions going into the reconstruction and argue that the assumed correlations, which clearly influence the wiggles, place strong constraints on field theory models of DDE.

Concretely, cosmic microwave background (CMB), baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) and Type Ia supernovae (SNE) data put the turning point in the future, but removing SNE results in an observational turning point at positive redshift. From the perspective of theory, not only does the turning point violate the Null Energy Condition (NEC), but as we argue, it may be interpreted as an evolution of the Hubble constant $H_0$ with redshift, which is at odds with the very FLRW framework within which data has been analysed. Tellingly, neither of these are problems for the flat $Λ$CDM model, and a direct comparison of fits further disfavours HDE relative to flat $Λ$CDM.

In essence, the tension boils down to a disagreement between two numbers. Here, assuming the tension is cosmological in origin, we predict that within flat $Λ$CDM there should be other inferred values of $H_0$, and that a "running of $H_0$ with redshift" can be expected. These additional determinations of $H_0$ may be traced to a difference between the effective equation of state (EoS) of the Universe within the Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) cosmology framework and the current standard model. We introduce a diagnostic that flags such a running of $H_0$.

Recently, Risaliti, Lusso \& collaborators \cite{Risaliti:2018reu, Lusso:2019akb, Lusso:2020pdb} have succeeded in producing a high redshift Hubble diagram ($ z \lesssim 7$) that supports "a trend whereby the Hubble diagram of quasars is well reproduced by the standard flat $Λ$CDM model up to $z \sim 1.5-2$, but strong deviations emerge at higher redshifts". This conclusion hinges upon a log polynomial expansion for the luminosity distance. In this note, we demonstrate that this expansion (or "improvements" thereof) typically can only be trusted up to $z \sim 1.5-2$. As a result, a breakdown in the validity of the expansion may be misinterpreted as a (phantom) deviation from flat $Λ$CDM. We further illustrate the problem through mock data examples.

A precise measurement of the curvature of the Universe is of primeval importance for cosmology since it could not only confirm the paradigm of primordial inflation but also help in discriminating between different early Universe scenarios. The recent observations, while broadly consistent with a spatially flat standard $Λ$ Cold Dark Matter ($Λ$CDM) model, are showing tensions that still allow (and, in some cases, even suggest) a few percent deviations from a flat universe. In particular, the Planck Cosmic Microwave Background power spectra, assuming the nominal likelihood, prefer a closed universe at more than 99\% confidence level. While new physics could be in action, this anomaly may be the result of an unresolved systematic error or just a statistical fluctuation. However, since a positive curvature allows a larger age of the Universe, an accurate determination of the age of the oldest objects provides a smoking gun in confirming or falsifying the current flat $Λ$CDM model.

While these anomalies could be due to the presence of systematic errors in the experiments, they could also indicate the need for new physics beyond the standard model. In this Letter of Interest we focus on the tension of the Planck data with weak lensing measurements and redshift surveys, about the value of the matter energy density $Ω_m$, and the amplitude or rate of the growth of structure ($σ_8,fσ_8$). We list a few interesting models for solving this tension, and we discuss the importance of trying to fit with a single model a full array of data and not just one parameter at a time.

However, with the increase of the experimental sensitivity a few statistically significant tensions between different independent cosmological datasets emerged. While these tensions can be in portion the result of systematic errors, the persistence after several years of accurate analysis strongly hints at cracks in the standard cosmological scenario and the need for new physics. In this Letter of Interest we will focus on the $4.4σ$ tension between the Planck estimate of the Hubble constant $H_0$ and the SH0ES collaboration measurements. After showing the $H_0$ evaluations made from different teams using different methods and geometric calibrations, we will list a few interesting new physics models that could solve this tension and discuss how the next decade experiments will be crucial.

Doing so, we find that $H_0$ descends with redshift, allowing one to fit a line with a \textit{non-zero} slope of statistical significance $2.1 \, σ$. Our analysis rests on the use of cosmic chronometers to break a degeneracy in BAO data and it will be imperative to revisit this feature as data improves. Nevertheless, our results provide the first independent indication of the descending trend reported by the H0LiCOW collaboration. If substantiated going forward, early Universe solutions to the Hubble tension will struggle explaining this trend.

Thus, any transformation by $SU(1, 1) \cong SL(2,\mathbb{R})$ is a symmetry for the action and allows one to generate new solutions in 4D. Here we clarify and extend recent work on electromagnetic (EM) duality in the context of the classical double copy. In particular, for pure gravity, we identify an explicit map between the Maxwell field of the single copy and the scalars in the target space, allowing us to identify the $U(1) \subset SL(2, \mathbb{R})$ symmetry dual to EM duality in the single copy. Moreover, we extend the analysis to Einstein-Maxwell theory, where we highlight the role of Ehlers-Harrison transformations and, for spherically symmetric charged black hole solutions, we interpret the equations of motion as a truncation of the putative single copy for Einstein-Yang-Mills theory.

Ultimately, we trace the tension to the QSO data and show that a best-fit of the flat $Λ$CDM model to the QSO data leads to a flat $Λ$CDM Universe with no dark energy within $1 \, σ$. This marks an irreconcilable tension between the Risaliti-Lusso QSOs and flat $Λ$CDM.

The deformation parameter tri-vector $Ω$ generalizes the non-commutativity bi-vector parameter $Θ$ of the open string. When applied to solutions in $d=11$, this map provides an economical way of performing TsT deformations, and may be used to recover $d=10$ Yang-Baxter deformations after dimensional reduction. We present a generalization of the Classical Yang-Baxter Equation (CYBE) for rank 3 objects, which emerges from $d=11$ supergravity and the SL(5) ExFT. This equation is shown to reduce to the $d=10$ CYBE upon dimensional reduction.

In this work we confront $Λ$CDM with the Pantheon Type Ia supernovae dataset and perform a two-parameter fit of the distance modulus for a running cut-off $z_{\textrm{max}}$. We observe that in a window between $z_{\textrm{max}} \approx 0.1$ and $z_{\textrm{max}} \approx 0.16$ there is a 1 - 2 $σ$ discrepancy with the Planck value $ω_m = 0.315 \pm 0.007$, which points to a potential matter underdensity. For high-energy theorists, the analysis appears to support the de Sitter Swampland conjecture.

We observe that the finite form of these deformations can be recast as $O(d,d)$ transformations, which are an integrated form of the corresponding Exactly Marginal Deformations (EMD) in the worldsheet Wess-Zumino-Witten (WZW) model, thereby generalising the Yang-Baxter class that includes TsT. Furthermore, the equivalence between $O(d,d)$ transformations and marginal deformations of WZW models, proposed by Hassan and Sen for Abelian chiral currents, can be extended to non-Abelian chiral currents to recover a well-known constraint on EMD in the worldsheet CFT. We also argue that such EMD are also solvable from the worldsheet theory viewpoint.

Realising de Sitter vacua in string theory is challenging. For this reason it has been conjectured that de Sitter vacua inhabit the Swampland of inconsistent low-energy effective theories coupled to gravity. Since de Sitter is an attractor for $Λ$CDM, the conjecture calls $Λ$CDM into question. Reality appears sympathetic to this idea as local measurements of the Hubble constant $H_0$ are also at odds with $Λ$CDM analysis of Planck data. This tension suggests that the de Sitter state is unstable, thereby implying a turning point in the Hubble parameter. We present a model relieving this tension, which predicts a turning at small positive redshift $z_*$ that is dictated by present-day matter density $ω_m$. This feature is easily identified by homogeneous surveys covering redshifts $z \leq 0.1$. We comment on the implications for the Swampland program.

Thus, given any solution with an isometry group, there exists a deformed solution based on an $r$-matrix solution to the homogeneous CYBE. In this work, we argue that the CYBE emerges exclusively from the NS sector, while the RR sector acts largely as a spectator that supports the spacetimes. Moreover, shifting the dilaton by a constant, one can incorporate $r$-matrix solutions to the modified CYBE, but only for original geometries that are a direct-product of coset spaces. We illustrate our solution generating technique with deformations of $AdS_3 \times S^3 \times M_4$, where $M_4 = T^4$ (K3) and $S^3 \times S^1$, and explicitly construct one and two-parameter (integrable) q-deformations that are solutions to generalised supergravity.

It has been shown that the Yang-Baxter deformation in target space is simply an open-closed string map that can be defined for any geometry, not just coset spaces. Given a geometry with an isometry group and a bivector that is assumed to be a linear combination of antisymmetric products of Killing vectors, we show the equations of motion of (generalized) supergravity reduce to the Classical Yang-Baxter Equation associated with the isometry group, proving the statement made in [1]. These results bring us closer to the proof of the "YB solution generating technique" for (generalized) supergravity advertised in [1] and in particular provide an economical way to perform TsT transformations.

Taking into account the variation of a non-local anomalous term in the T-dual $σ$-model of Elitzer, Giveon, Rabinovici, Schwimmer \& Veneziano, we show that the equations of motion of generalized supergravity follow from the $σ$-model once the Killing vector $I$ is identified with the trace of the structure constants. As a result, non-Abelian T-duals with respect to non-semisimple groups are solutions to generalized supergravity. We illustrate our findings with Bianchi spacetimes.

The approach hinges on a knowledge of an antisymmetric bivector $Θ$, built from antisymmetric products of Killing vectors, which is specified by the equations of motion. In the cases we study, the equations of motion reproduce the Classical Yang-Baxter equation (CYBE) and $Θ$ is the most general $r$-matrix solution. Our work generalizes Yang-Baxter deformations to non-coset spaces and unlocks gravity as a means to classify $r$-matrix solutions to the CYBE.

In this work, in addition to extending these results to the deformation associated with the modified CYBE, or $η$-deformation, we identify the Page forms as the open string counterpart for RR fields and demonstrate case by case that the non-zero Page forms remain invariant under YB deformations. We give a physical meaning to the Killing vector $I$ of generalized supergravity and show for all YB deformations: 1) $I$ appears as a current for center of mass motion on the worldvolume of a D-branes probing the background, 2) $I$ is equal to the divergence of the noncommutativity parameter, 3) $I$ exhibits "holographic" behavior, where the radial component of $I$ vanishes at the AdS boundary, and 4) in pure spinor formalism $I$ is related to a certain state in the BRST cohomology.

One type of Penrose limit for closed strings corresponds to a large charge closed spin chain, and another, for open strings on giant graviton D-branes, corresponds to an open spin chain on sub-determinant operators. For the first limit, we find that like in the ABJM case, there are functions $f_a(λ)$ that interpolate between the perturbative and nonperturbative (string) regions for the magnon energy. For the second, we are unable to match the gravity result with the expected field theory result, making this model more interesting than ones with more supersymmetry.

Expanding upon earlier results [arXiv:1702.02861], we present a compendium of $σ$-models associated with integrable deformations of AdS$_5$ generated by solutions to homogenous classical Yang-Baxter equation. Each example we study from four viewpoints: conformal (Drinfeld) twists, closed string gravity backgrounds, open string parameters and proposed dual noncommutative (NC) gauge theory. Irrespective of whether the deformed background is a solution to supergravity or generalized supergravity, we show that the open string metric associated with each gravity background is undeformed AdS$_5$ with constant open string coupling and the NC structure $Θ$ is directly related to the conformal twist. One novel feature is that $Θ$ exhibits "holographic noncommutativity": while it may exhibit non-trivial dependence on the holographic direction, its value everywhere in the bulk is uniquely determined by its value at the boundary, thus facilitating introduction of a dual NC gauge theory. We show that the divergence of the NC structure $Θ$ is directly related to the unimodularity of the twist. We discuss the implementation of an outer automorphism of the conformal algebra as a coordinate transformation in the AdS bulk and discuss its implications for Yang-Baxter $σ$-models and self-T-duality based on fermionic T-duality. Finally, we comment on implications of our results for the integrability of associated open strings and planar integrability of dual NC gauge theories.

We show that the number of global supersymmetries is an orbit invariant quantity and identify geometries with zero, one, two, three and four global supersymmetries. As an application of our classification, we exploit supersymmetry, which is preserved locally in the bulk, to determine space-like co-dimension two surfaces in AdS$_3$. In the process, we by-pass geodesics or mappings of AdS$_3$, neither of which have an analogue in higher dimensions, to recover known Hubeny-Rangamani-Takayanagi surfaces. We show that TsT deformations commute with fermionic T-duality and comment on T-duality in the corresponding sigma model.
