We show that randomness in quadratic Hamiltonians for multimode bosonic systems results in certain information scrambling diagnostics, mirroring those seen in chaotic systems. Specifically, considering initial Gaussian states, we observe the disappearance of the memory effect in entanglement dynamics and the negative value of tripartite mutual information. However, in contrast to chaotic systems, we find that the spectral form factor exhibits a non-linear ramp and the out-of-time-ordered correlators display a power law growth. These results show that information scrambling, associated with randomness, is a distinct feature from quantum chaos. Moreover, our results provide insight into the dynamics of Gaussian states of continuous-variable systems that are useful and available resources for quantum information processing.

We study the static entanglement structure in (1+1)-dimensional free Dirac-fermion theory with Lifshitz symmetry and arbitrary integer dynamical critical exponent. This model is different from the one introduced in [Hartmann et al., SciPost Phys. 11, no.2, 031 (2021)] due to a proper treatment of the square Laplace operator. Dirac fermion Lifshitz theory is local as opposed to its scalar counterpart which strongly affects its entanglement structure. We show that there is quantum entanglement across arbitrary subregions in various pure (including the vacuum) and mixed states of this theory for arbitrary integer values of the dynamical critical exponent. Our numerical investigations show that quantum entanglement in this theory is tightly bounded from above. Such a bound and other physical properties of quantum entanglement are carefully explained from the correlation structure in these theories. A generalization to (2+1)-dimensions where the entanglement structure is seriously different is addressed.

We also investigate the effect of the dynamical exponent on the asymptotic behavior of the Lanczos coefficients, which show a universal scaling behavior. We carefully examine how these results can affect different measures in Krylov space, including Krylov complexity and entropy. We define a new complex-valued measure of information called the timelike entanglement entropy (EE) which in the boundary theory can be viewed as a Wick rotation that changes a spacelike boundary subregion to a timelike one. An explicit definition of the timelike EE in 2d field theories is provided followed by numerical computations which agree with the analytic continuation of the replica method for CFTs. We argue that timelike EE should be correctly interpreted as another measure previously considered, the pseudo entropy, which is the von Neumann entropy of a reduced transition matrix. Our results strongly imply that the imaginary part of the pseudo entropy describes an emergent time which generalizes the notion of an emergent space from quantum entanglement. For holographic systems we define the timelike EE as the total complex valued area of a particular stationary combination of both space and timelike extremal surfaces which are homologous to the boundary region. For the examples considered we find explicit matching of our optimization procedure and the careful implementation of the Wick rotation in the boundary CFT. We also make progress on higher dimensional generalizations and relations to holographic pseudo entropy in de Sitter space.

In this paper, we look for signatures of quantum revivals in two-dimensional conformal field theories (2d CFTs) on a spatially compact manifold by using operator entanglement. It is believed that thermalization does not occur on spatially compact manifolds as the quantum state returns to its initial state which is a phenomenon known as quantum revival. We find that in CFTs such as the free fermion CFT, the operator mutual information exhibits quantum revival in accordance with the relativistic propagation of quasiparticles while in holographic CFTs, the operator mutual information does not exhibit this revival and the quasiparticle picture breaks down. Furthermore, by computing the tripartite operator mutual information, we find that the information scrambling ability of holographic CFTs can be weakened by the finite size effect. We propose a modification of an effective model known as the line tension picture to explain the entanglement dynamics due to the strong scrambling effect and find a close relationship between this model and the wormhole (Einstein-Rosen Bridge) in the holographic bulk dual.

In two dimensional isotropic scale invariant theories, the time scaling of the entanglement entropy of a segment is fixed via the conformal symmetry. We consider scale invariance in a more general sense and show that in integrable theories that the scale invariance is anisotropic between time and space, parametrized by $z$, most of the entanglement is carried by the slow modes for $z>1$. At early times entanglement grows linearly due to the contribution of the fast modes, before smoothly entering a slow mode regime where it grows forever with $t^{\frac{1}{1-z}}$. The slow mode regime admits a logarithmic enhancement in bosonic theories. We check our analytical results against numerical simulations in corresponding fermionic and bosonic lattice models finding extremely good agreement. We show that in these non-relativistic theories that the slow modes are dominant, local quantum information is universally scrambled in a stronger way compared to their relativistic counterparts.

In this article, we explore properties of pseudo entropy [1] in quantum field theories and spin systems from several approaches. Pseudo entropy is a generalization of entanglement entropy such that it depends on both an initial and final state and has a clear gravity dual via the AdS/CFT. We numerically analyze a class of free scalar field theories and the XY spin model. This reveals the basic properties of pseudo entropy in many-body systems, namely, the area law behavior, the saturation behavior, and the non-positivity of difference between the pseudo entropy and averaged entanglement entropy in the same quantum phase. In addition, our numerical analysis finds an example where the strong subadditivity of pseudo entropy gets violated. Interestingly we find that the non-positivity of the difference can be violated only if the initial and final states belong to different quantum phases. We also present analytical arguments which support these properties by both conformal field theoretic and holographic calculations. When the initial and final states belong to different topological phases, we expect a gapless mode localized along an interface, which enhances the pseudo entropy leading to the violation of the non-positivity of the difference. Moreover, we also compute the time evolution of pseudo entropy after a global quench, were we observe that the imaginary part of pseudo entropy shows interesting characteristc behavior.

Pseudo entropy is an interesting quantity with a simple gravity dual, which generalizes entanglement entropy such that it depends on both an initial and a final state. Here we reveal the basic properties of pseudo entropy in quantum field theories by numerically calculating this quantity for a set of two-dimensional free scalar field theories and the Ising spin chain. We extend the Gaussian method for pseudo entropy in free scalar theories with two parameters: mass $m$ and dynamical exponent $z$. This computation finds two novel properties of Pseudo entropy which we conjecture to be universal in field theories, in addition to an area law behavior. One is a saturation behavior and the other one is non-positivity of the difference between pseudo entropy and averaged entanglement entropy. Moreover, our numerical results for the Ising chain imply that pseudo entropy can play a role as a new quantum order parameter which detects whether two states are in the same quantum phase or not.

Our study is restricted to Gaussian states of scale-invariant theories as well as their finite temperature generalizations, for which we show that the odd entropy is a well-defined measure for mixed states. Motivated from holographic results, the difference between odd and von Neumann entropy is also studied. In particular, we show that large amounts of quantum correlations ensure the odd entropy to be larger than von Neumann entropy, which is qualitatively consistent with the holographic CFT. In general cases, we also find that this difference is not even a monotonic function with respect to size of (and distance between) subsystems.

We study critical dynamics through time evolution of quantum field theories driven to a Lifshitz-like fixed point, with $z>1$, under relevant deformations. The deformations we consider are fast smooth quantum quenches, namely when the quench scale $δt^{-z}$ is large compared to the deformation scale. We show that in holographic models the response of the system merely depends on the scaling dimension of the quenched operator as $δλ\cdotδt^{d-2Δ+z-1}$, where $δλ$ is the deformation amplitude. This scaling behavior is enhanced logarithmically in certain cases. We also study free Lifshitz scalar theory deformed by mass operator and show that the universal scaling of the response completely matches with holographic analysis. We argue that this scaling behavior is universal for any relevant deformation around Lifshitz-like UV fixed points.

We study propagation of entanglement after a mass quench in free scalar Lifshitz theories. We show that entanglement entropy goes across three distinct growth regimes before relaxing to a generalized Gibbs ensemble, namely 'initial rapid growth', 'main linear growth' and 'tortoise saturation'. We show that although a wide spectrum of quasi-particles are responsible for entanglement propagation, as long as the occupation number of the zero mode is not divergent, the linear main growth regime is dominated by the fastest quasi-particle propagating on the edges of a widen light-cone. We present strong evidences in support of effective causality and therefore define an effective notion of saturation time in these theories. The larger the dynamical exponent is, the shorter the linear main growth regime becomes. Due to a pile of tortoise modes which become dominant after saturation of fast modes, exact saturation time is postponed to infinity.

We adapt the techniques of entanglement renormalization tensor networks to weakly interacting quantum field theories in the continuum. A key tool is "quantum circuit perturbation theory," which enables us to systematically construct unitaries that map between wavefunctionals which are Gaussian with arbitrary perturbative corrections. As an application, we construct a local, continuous MERA (cMERA) circuit that maps an unentangled scale-invariant state to the ground state of $\varphi^4$ theory to 1-loop. Our local cMERA circuit corresponds exactly to 1-loop Wilsonian RG on the spatial momentum modes. In other words, we establish that perturbative Wilsonian RG on spatial momentum modes can be equivalently recast as a local cMERA circuit in $\varphi^4$ theory, and argue that this correspondence holds more generally. Our analysis also suggests useful numerical ansatzes for cMERA in the non-perturbative regime.

We develop techniques to systematically construct local unitaries which map scale-invariant, product state wavefunctionals to the ground states of weakly interacting, continuum quantum field theories. More broadly, we devise a "quantum circuit perturbation theory" to construct local unitaries which map between any pair of wavefunctionals which are each Gaussian with arbitrary perturbative corrections. Further, we generalize cMERA to interacting continuum field theories, which requires reworking the existing formalism which is tailored to non-interacting examples. Our methods enable the systematic perturbative calculation of cMERA circuits for weakly interacting theories, and as a demonstration we compute the 1-loop cMERA circuit for scalar $\varphi^4$ theory and analyze its properties. In this case, we show that Wilsonian renormalization of the spatial momentum modes is equivalent to a local position space cMERA circuit. This example provides new insights into the connection between position space and momentum space renormalization group methods in quantum field theory. The form of cMERA circuits derived from perturbation theory suggests useful ansatzes for numerical variational calculations.

We study different aspects of quantum entanglement and its measures, including entanglement entropy in the vacuum state of a certain Lifshitz scalar theory. We present simple intuitive arguments based on "non-local" effects of this theory that the scaling of entanglement entropy depends on the dynamical exponent as a characteristic parameter of the theory. The scaling is such that in the massless theory for small entangling regions it leads to area law in the Lorentzian limit and volume law in the $z\to\infty$ limit. We present strong numerical evidences in (1+1) and (2+1)-dimensions in support of this behavior. In (2+1)-dimensions we also study some shape dependent aspects of entanglement. We consider recently introduced solutions of Einstein gravity with minimally coupled massless scalars. The geometry is homogeneous, isotropic and asymptotically anti de-Sitter while the scalar fields have linear spatial-dependent profiles. The spatially-dependent marginal operators dual to scalar fields cause momentum dissipation in the deformed dual CFT. We study the effect of these marginal deformations on holographic entanglement measures and Wilson loop. We show that the structure of the universal terms of entanglement entropy for d(>2)-dim deformed CFTs is corrected depending on the geometry of the entangling regions. In d = 2 case, the universal term is not corrected while momentum relaxation leads to a non-critical correction. We also show that decrease of the correlation length causes: the phase transition of holographic mutual information to happen at smaller separations and the confinement/deconfinement phase transition to take place at smaller critical lengths. The effective potential between point like external objects also gets corrected. We show that the strength of the corresponding force between these objects is an increasing function of the momentum relaxation parameter.

It is established that physical observables in local quantum field theories should be invariant under invertible field redefinitions. It is then expected that this statement should be true for the entanglement entropy and moreover that, via the gauge/gravity correspondence, the recipe for computing entanglement entropy holographically should also be invariant under local field redefinitions in the gravity side. We use this fact to fix the recipe for computing holographic entanglement entropy (HEE) for $f(R,R_{μν})$ theories which could be mapped to Einstein gravity. An outcome of our prescription is that the surfaces that minimize the corresponding HEE functional for $f(R,R_{μν})$ theories always have vanishing trace of extrinsic curvature and that the HEE may be evaluated using the Wald entropy functional. We show that similar results follow from the FPS and Dong HEE functionals, for Einstein manifold backgrounds in $f(R,R_{μν})$ theories.

We calculate the corresponding holographic metric using the proposal of arXiv:1208.3469 and confirm that it qualitatively agrees with its gravity dual given by a half of the AdS black hole spacetime, argued by Hartman and Maldacena in arXiv:1303.1080. By doubling the cMERA for the quantum quench, we give an explicit construction of finite temperature cMERA. We also study cMERA in the presence of chemical potential and show that there is an enhancement of metric in the infrared region corresponding to the Fermi energy.

Abstract:
We study charged Dirac fermions on an AdS$_2\times R^2$ background with a non-zero magnetic field. Under certain boundary conditions, we show that the charged fermion can make the background unstable, resulting in spontaneously formation of a vortex lattice. We observe that an electric field emerges in the back-reacted solution due to the vortex lattice constructed from spin polarized fermions. Th…

Under certain boundary conditions, we show that the charged fermion can make the background unstable, resulting in spontaneously formation of a vortex lattice. We observe that an electric field emerges in the back-reacted solution due to the vortex lattice constructed from spin polarized fermions. This electric field may be extended to the UV boundary which leads to a finite charge density. We also discuss corrections to the thermodynamic functions due to the lattice formation.

Abstract:
We study a minimally coupled charged scalar field in a charged Lifshitz background. For z=2, we find an analytic expression for the corresponding low energy retarded Green's function. Unlike the RN-AdS case, the position of the superfluid surfaces depends on the charge of the scalar field only through the IR scaling dimension. Unlike the RN-AdS case, the position of the superfluid surfaces depends on the charge of the scalar field only through the IR scaling dimension. We show that by increasing the dynamical exponent, the dual theory becomes more stable. We also show that the background could suffer from an instability of the IR geometry leading to a bifurcating critical point. It also allows the existence of scalar hair, causing hybridized critical point. We have investigated stable an unstable regions in the parameter space.

By making use of the gravity description, we have studied conductivity, holographic entanglement entropy and dynamics of a charged scalar field. In particular at low energy we find that the temperature dependence of the real part of the conductivity goes as T^3 and the background is stable against scalar condensations.

We have investigated the "weak chaos" exponent to see if it can be considered as a classification parameter of different sandpile models. Simulation results show that "weak chaos" exponent may be one of the characteristic exponents of the attractor of \textit{deterministic} models. We have shown that the (abelian) BTW sandpile model and the (non abelian) Zhang model posses different "weak chaos" exponents, so they may belong to different universality classes. We have also shown that \textit{stochasticity} destroys "weak chaos" exponents' effectiveness so it slows down the divergence of nearby configurations. Finally we show that getting off the critical point destroys this behavior of deterministic models.
