Mobile edge generation (MEG) is an emerging technology that allows the network to meet the challenging traffic load expectations posed by the rise of generative artificial intelligence~(GAI). A novel MEG model is proposed for deploying GAI models on edge servers (ES) and user equipment~(UE) to jointly complete text-to-image generation tasks. In the generation task, the ES and UE will cooperatively generate the image according to the text prompt given by the user. To enable the MEG, a pre-trained latent diffusion model (LDM) is invoked to generate the latent feature, and an edge-inferencing MEG protocol is employed for data transmission exchange between the ES and the UE. A compression coding technique is proposed for compressing the latent features to produce seeds. Based on the above seed-enabled MEG model, an image quality optimization problem with transmit power constraint is formulated. The transmitting power of the seed is dynamically optimized by a deep reinforcement learning agent over the fading channel. The proposed MEG enabled text-to-image generation system is evaluated in terms of image quality and transmission overhead. The numerical results indicate that, compared to the conventional centralized generation-and-downloading scheme, the symbol number of the transmission of MEG is materially reduced. In addition, the proposed compression coding approach can improve the quality of generated images under low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) conditions.

In this paper, we first introduce and study the notion of random Chebyshev centers. Further, based on the recently developed theory of stable sets, we introduce the notion of random complete normal structure so that we can prove the two deeper theorems: one of which states that random complete normal structure is equivalent to random normal structure for an $L^0$-convexly compact set in a complete random normed module; the other of which states that if $G$ is an $L^0$-convexly compact subset with random normal structure of a complete random normed module, then every commutative family of nonexpansive mappings from $G$ to $G$ has a common fixed point. We also consider the fixed point problems for isometric mappings in complete random normed modules. Finally, as applications of the fixed point theorems established in random normed modules, when the measurable selection theorems fail to work, we can still prove that a family of strong random nonexpansive operators from $(Ω,\mathcal{F},P)\times C$ to $C$ has a common random fixed point, where $(Ω,\mathcal{F},P)$ is a probability space and $C$ is a weakly compact convex subset with normal structure of a Banach space.

Multiple-antenna technologies are advancing toward the development of extremely large aperture arrays and the utilization of extremely high frequencies, driving the progress of next-generation multiple access (NGMA). This evolution is accompanied by the emergence of near-field communications (NFC), characterized by spherical-wave propagation, which introduces additional range dimensions to the channel and enhances system throughput. In this context, a tutorial-based primer on NFC is presented, emphasizing its applications in multiuser communications and multiple access (MA). The following areas are investigated: \romannumeral1) the commonly used near-field channel models are reviewed along with their simplifications under various near-field conditions. \romannumeral2) Building upon these models, the information-theoretic capacity limits of NFC-MA are analyzed, including the derivation of sum-rate capacity and capacity region, and their upper limits for both downlink and uplink scenarios. \romannumeral3) A detailed investigation of near-field multiuser beamforming design is presented, offering low-complexity and effective NFC-MA design methodologies in both the spatial and wavenumber (angular) domains. Throughout these investigations, near-field MA is compared with its far-field counterpart to highlight its superiority and flexibility in terms of interference management, thereby laying the groundwork for achieving NGMA.

Robust localization is the cornerstone of autonomous driving, especially in challenging urban environments where GPS signals suffer from multipath errors. Traditional localization approaches rely on high-definition (HD) maps, which consist of precisely annotated landmarks. However, building HD map is expensive and challenging to scale up. Given these limitations, leveraging navigation maps has emerged as a promising low-cost alternative for localization. Current approaches based on navigation maps can achieve highly accurate localization, but their complex matching strategies lead to unacceptable inference latency that fails to meet the real-time demands. To address these limitations, we propose a novel transformer-based neural re-localization method. Inspired by image registration, our approach performs a coarse-to-fine neural feature registration between navigation map and visual bird's-eye view features. Our method significantly outperforms the current state-of-the-art OrienterNet on both the nuScenes and Argoverse datasets, which is nearly 10%/20% localization accuracy and 30/16 FPS improvement on single-view and surround-view input settings, separately. We highlight that our research presents an HD-map-free localization method for autonomous driving, offering cost-effective, reliable, and scalable performance in challenging driving environments.

Planning the movement of the sink to maximize the lifetime in wireless sensor networks is an essential problem of great research challenge and practical value. Many existing mobile sink techniques based on mathematical programming or heuristics have demonstrated the feasibility of the task. Nevertheless, the huge computation consumption or the over-reliance on human knowledge can result in relatively low performance. In order to balance the need for high-quality solutions with the goal of minimizing inference time, we propose a new framework combining heterogeneous graph neural network with deep reinforcement learning to automatically construct the movement path of the sink. Modeling the wireless sensor networks as heterogeneous graphs, we utilize the graph neural network to learn representations of sites and sensors by aggregating features of neighbor nodes and extracting hierarchical graph features. Meanwhile, the multi-head attention mechanism is leveraged to allow the sites to attend to information from sensor nodes, which highly improves the expressive capacity of the learning model. Based on the node representations, a greedy policy is learned to append the next best site in the solution incrementally. We design ten types of static and dynamic maps to simulate different wireless sensor networks in the real world, and extensive experiments are conducted to evaluate and analyze our approach. The empirical results show that our approach consistently outperforms the existing methods on all types of maps.

A novel accelerated mobile edge generation (MEG) framework is proposed for generating high-resolution images on mobile devices. Exploiting a large-scale latent diffusion model (LDM) distributed across edge server (ES) and user equipment (UE), cost-efficient artificial intelligence generated content (AIGC) is achieved by transmitting low-dimensional features between ES and UE. To reduce overheads of both distributed computations and transmissions, a dynamic diffusion and feature merging scheme is conceived. By jointly optimizing the denoising steps and feature merging ratio, the image generation quality is maximized subject to latency and energy consumption constraints. To address this problem and tailor LDM sub-models, a low-complexity MEG acceleration protocol is developed. Particularly, a backbone meta-architecture is trained via offline distillation. Then, dynamic diffusion and feature merging are determined in online channel environment, which can be viewed as a constrained Markov Decision Process (MDP). A constrained variational policy optimization (CVPO) based MEG algorithm is further proposed for constraint-guaranteed learning, namely MEG-CVPO. Numerical results verify that: 1) The proposed framework can generate 1024$\times$1024 high-quality images over noisy channels while reducing over $40\%$ latency compared to conventional generation schemes. 2) The developed MEG-CVPO effectively mitigates constraint violations, thus flexibly controlling the trade-off between image distortion and generation costs.

A novel paradigm of mobile edge generation (MEG)-enabled digital twin (DT) is proposed, which enables distributed on-device generation at mobile edge networks for real-time DT applications. First, an MEG-DT architecture is put forward to decentralize generative artificial intelligence (GAI) models onto edge servers (ESs) and user equipments (UEs), which has the advantages of low latency, privacy preservation, and individual-level customization. Then, various single-user and multi-user generation mechanisms are conceived for MEG-DT, which strike trade-offs between generation latency, hardware costs, and device coordination. Furthermore, to perform efficient distributed generation, two operating protocols are explored for transmitting interpretable and latent features between ESs and UEs, namely sketch-based generation and seed-based generation, respectively. Based on the proposed protocols, the convergence between MEG and DT are highlighted. Considering the seed-based image generation scenario, numerical case studies are provided to reveal the superiority of MEG-DT over centralized generation. Finally, promising applications and research opportunities are identified.

However, the random and uncontrollable wireless radio environment is a major obstacle to realizing this NGMA vision. Given the prominent feature of achieving 360° smart radio environment, simultaneously transmitting and reflecting surfaces (STARS) are emerging as one key enabling technology among the family of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces for NGMA. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the recent research progress of STARS, focusing on fundamentals, performance analysis, and full-space beamforming design, as well as promising employments of STARS in NGMA. In particular, we first introduce the basics of STARS by elaborating on the foundational principles and operating protocols as well as discussing different STARS categories and prototypes. Moreover, we systematically survey the existing performance analysis and beamforming design for STARS-aided wireless communications in terms of diverse objectives and different mathematical approaches. Recently, the application of modern diffusion-based text-to-image generation models for creating artistic fonts, traditionally the domain of professional designers, has garnered significant interest. Diverging from the majority of existing studies that concentrate on generating artistic typography, our research aims to tackle a novel and more demanding challenge: the generation of text effects for multilingual fonts. This task essentially requires generating coherent and consistent visual content within the confines of a font-shaped canvas, as opposed to a traditional rectangular canvas. To address this task, we introduce a novel shape-adaptive diffusion model capable of interpreting the given shape and strategically planning pixel distributions within the irregular canvas. To achieve this, we curate a high-quality shape-adaptive image-text dataset and incorporate the segmentation mask as a visual condition to steer the image generation process within the irregular-canvas. This approach enables the traditionally rectangle canvas-based diffusion model to produce the desired concepts in accordance with the provided geometric shapes. Second, to maintain consistency across multiple letters, we also present a training-free, shape-adaptive effect transfer method for transferring textures from a generated reference letter to others. The key insights are building a font effect noise prior and propagating the font effect information in a concatenated latent space. The efficacy of our FontStudio system is confirmed through user preference studies, which show a marked preference (78% win-rates on aesthetics) for our system even when compared to the latest unrivaled commercial product, Adobe Firefly.

The discrimination of quantum operations has long been an intriguing challenge, with theoretical research significantly advancing our understanding of the quantum features in discriminating quantum objects. This challenge is closely related to the discrimination of quantum states, and proof-of-principle demonstrations of the latter have already been realized using optical photons. However, the experimental demonstration of discriminating general quantum operations, including both unitary and non-unitary operations, has remained elusive. In general quantum systems, especially those with high dimensions, the preparation of arbitrary quantum states and the implementation of arbitrary quantum operations and generalized measurements are non-trivial tasks. Here, for the first time, we experimentally demonstrate the optimal unambiguous discrimination of up to 6 displacement operators and the unambiguous discrimination of non-unitary quantum operations. Our results demonstrate powerful tools for experimental research in quantum information processing and are expected to stimulate a wide range of valuable applications in the field of quantum sensing.

The impact of large bandwidth on near-filed sensing (NISE) is analyzed in multi-carrier systems. The fundamental Cramer-Rao bounds (CRBs) for wideband NISE are characterized. In particular, the closed-form CRBs are derived for both uniform linear arrays (ULAs) and uniform circular arrays (UCAs). Then, the asymptotic CRBs are analyzed. It is rigorously proved that: 1) as the number of antennas N increases, the maximum decay rates of asymptotic CRBs are 1/N for ULAs and 1/N^2 for UCAs; 2) as the number of subcarriers M increases, the asymptotic CRBs decay as 1/M^3 for both ULAs and UCAs; and 3) CRBs are inversely proportional to the beamforming gain. Based on the analytical results, two practical beamforming approaches are proposed for near-field wideband integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), namely independent and joint approaches. For the independent approach, the beamformer on each subcarrier is designed exclusively for either sensing or communication. For the joint approach, the beamformer on each subcarrier is jointly optimized for both functions through a low-complexity iterative algorithm. Finally, numerical results show that 1) large bandwidth sets an estimation error ceiling for NISE; 2) NISE performance converges to far-field sensing performance when the bandwidth is extremely large; 3) there is a tradeoff between array size and system bandwidth for achieving a given sensing performance; and 4) the simple independent beamforming approach achieves an ISAC performance close to the complex joint beamforming approach.

A simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surface (STAR-RIS) assisted simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) system is proposed. More particularly, an STAR-RIS is deployed to assist in the information/power transfer from a multi-antenna access point (AP) to multiple single-antenna information users (IUs) and energy users (EUs), where two practical STAR-RIS operating protocols, namely energy splitting (ES) and time switching (TS), are employed. Under the imperfect channel state information (CSI) condition, a multi-objective optimization problem (MOOP) framework, that simultaneously maximizes the minimum data rate and minimum harvested power, is employed to investigate the fundamental rate-energy trade-off between IUs and EUs. To obtain the optimal robust resource allocation strategy, the MOOP is first transformed into a single-objective optimization problem (SOOP) via the ε-constraint method, which is then reformulated by approximating semi-infinite inequality constraints with the S-procedure. For ES, an alternating optimization (AO)-based algorithm is proposed to jointly design AP active beamforming and STAR-RIS passive beamforming, where a penalty method is leveraged in STAR-RIS beamforming design. Furthermore, the developed algorithm is extended to optimize the time allocation policy and beamforming vectors in a two-layer iterative manner for TS. Numerical results reveal that: 1) deploying STAR-RISs achieves a significant performance gain over conventional RISs, especially in terms of harvested power for EUs; 2) the ES protocol obtains a better user fairness performance when focusing only on IUs or EUs, while the TS protocol yields a better balance between IUs and EUs; 3) the imperfect CSI affects IUs more significantly than EUs, whereas TS can confer a more robust design to attenuate these effects.

A novel coexisting passive reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) and active decode-and-forward (DF) relay assisted non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) transmission framework is proposed. In particular, two communication protocols are conceived, namely Hybrid NOMA (H-NOMA) and Full NOMA (F-NOMA). Based on the proposed two protocols, both the sum rate maximization and max-min rate fairness problems are formulated for jointly optimizing the power allocation at the access point and relay as well as the passive beamforming design at the RIS. To tackle the non-convex problems, an alternating optimization (AO) based algorithm is first developed, where the transmit power and the RIS phase-shift are alternatingly optimized by leveraging the two-dimensional search and rank-relaxed difference-of-convex (DC) programming, respectively. Then, a two-layer penalty based joint optimization (JO) algorithm is developed to jointly optimize the resource allocation coefficients within each iteration. Finally, numerical results demonstrate that: i) the proposed coexisting RIS and relay assisted transmission framework is capable of achieving a significant user performance improvement than conventional schemes without RIS or relay; ii) compared with the AO algorithm, the JO algorithm requires less execution time at the cost of a slight performance loss; and iii) the H-NOMA and F-NOMA protocols are generally preferable for ensuring user rate fairness and enhancing user sum rate, respectively.

A simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surface (STAR-RIS) assisted downlink (DL) active and uplink (UL) backscatter communication (BackCom) framework is proposed. More particularly, a full-duplex (FD) base station (BS) communicates with the DL users via the STAR-RIS's transmission link, while exciting and receiving the information from the UL BackCom devices with the aid of the STAR-RIS's reflection link. Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is exploited in both DL and UL communications for improving the spectrum efficiency. The system weighted sum rate maximization problem is formulated for jointly optimizing the FD BS active receive and transmit beamforming, the STAR- RIS passive beamforming, and the DL NOMA decoding orders, subject to the DL user's individual rate constraint. To tackle this challenging non-convex problem, we propose an alternating optimization (AO) based algorithm for the joint active and passive beamforming design with a given DL NOMA decoding order. To address the potential high computational complexity required for exhaustive searching all the NOMA decoding orders, an efficient NOMA user ordering scheme is further developed. Finally, numerical results demonstrate that: i) compared with the baseline schemes employing conventional RISs or space division multiple access, the proposed scheme achieves higher performance gains; and ii) higher UL rate gain is obtained at a cost of DL performance degradation, as a remedy, a more flexible performance tradeoff can be achieved by introducing the STAR-RIS.

Achieving a correlative measurement of both magnetic and atomic structures at the nanoscale is imperative to understand the fundamental magnetism of matters and for fostering the development of new magnetic nanomaterials. Conventional microscopy methods fall short in providing the two information simultaneously. Here, we develop a new approach to simultaneously map the magnetic field and atomic structure at the nanoscale using Lorentz 4-dimensional scanning transmission electron microscopy (Ltz-4D-STEM). This method enables precise measurement of the characteristic atomic and magnetic structures across an extensive field of view, a critical aspect for investigating real-world ferromagnetic materials. It offers a comprehensive visualization and statistical evaluation of the different structural information at a pixel-by-pixel correlation. The new method allows to directly visualize the magnetoelastic coupling and the resulting complex magnetization arrangement as well as the competition between magnetoelastic and magnetostatic energy. A novel hybrid active-passive reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) transmitter enabled downlink multi-user communication system is investigated. Specifically, RISs are exploited to serve as transmitter antennas, where each element can flexibly switch between active and passive modes to deliver information to multiple users. The system energy efficiency (EE) maximization problem is formulated by jointly optimizing the RIS element scheduling and beamforming coefficients, as well as the power allocation coefficients, subject to the user's individual rate requirement and the maximum RIS amplification power constraint. Using the Dinkelbach relaxation, the original mixed-integer nonlinear programming problem is transformed into a nonfractional optimization problem with a two-layer structure, which is solved by the alternating optimization approach. In particular, an exhaustive search method is proposed to determine the optimal operating mode for each RIS element. Then, the RIS beamforming and power allocation coefficients are properly designed in an alternating manner. To overcome the potentially high complexity caused by exhaustive searching, we further develop a joint RIS element mode and beamforming optimization scheme by exploiting the Big-M formulation technique. Numerical results validate that: 1) The proposed hybrid RIS scheme yields higher EE than the baseline multi-antenna schemes employing fully active/passive RIS or conventional radio frequency chains; 2) Both proposed algorithms are effective in improving the system performance, especially the latter can achieve precise design of RIS elements with low complexity; and 3) For a fixed-size hybrid RIS, maximum EE can be reaped by setting only a minority of elements to operate in the active mode.

A novel semantic communication (SC)-assisted secrecy transmission framework is proposed. In particular, the legitimate transmitter (Tx) sends the superimposed semantic and bit stream to the legitimate receiver (Rx), where the information may be eavesdropped by the malicious node (EVE). As the EVE merely has the conventional bit-oriented communication structure, the semantic signal acts as the type of beneficial information-bearing artificial noise (AN), which not only keeps strictly confidential to the EVE but also interferes with the EVE. The ergodic (equivalent) secrecy rate over fading wiretap channels is maximized by jointly optimizing the transmit power, semantic-bit power splitting ratio, and the successive interference cancellation decoding order at the Tx, subject to both the instantaneous peak and long-term average power constraints. To address this non-convex problem, both the optimal and suboptimal algorithms are developed by employing the Lagrangian dual method and the successive convex approximation method, respectively. Numerical results show that the proposed SC-assisted secrecy transmission scheme can significantly enhance the physical layer security compared to the baselines using the conventional bit-oriented communication and no-information-bearing AN. It also shows that the proposed suboptimal algorithm can achieve a near-optimal performance.

A conception of mobile edge generation (MEG) is proposed, where generative artificial intelligence (GAI) models are distributed at edge servers (ESs) and user equipment (UE), enabling joint execution of generation tasks. Various distributed deployment schemes of the GAI model are proposed to alleviate the immense network load and long user queuing times for accessing GAI models. Two MEG frameworks are proposed, namely the single-ES framework and the multi-ESs framework. 1) A one-to-one joint generation framework between an ES and a UE is proposed, including four specific single-ES MEG protocols. These protocols allow distributed GAI models to transmit seeds or sketches for delivering information efficiently. 2) Several protocols are proposed for multi-ESs MEG, which enable multiple ESs to perform the generation task cooperatively or in parallel. Finally, a case study of a text-guided-image-to-image generation is provided, where a latent diffusion model is distributed at an ES and a UE. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed protocols are able to generate high-quality images at extremely low signal-to-noise ratios. The proposed protocols can significantly reduce the communication overhead compared to the centralized model.

Second, we prove that an $L^{\infty}$-module is an $L^{p}$-normed $L^{\infty}$-module iff it is generated by a complete random normed module, from which it is easily seen that the gluing property of an $L^{p}$-normed $L^{\infty}$-module can be derived from the $σ$-stability of the generating random normed module, as applications the known and new basic facts of module duals for $L^{p}$-normed $L^{\infty}$-modules can be obtained, in a simple and direct way, from the theory of random conjugate spaces of random normed modules. Third, we prove that a random normed space is order complete iff it is complete with respect to the $(\varepsilon,λ)$-topology, as an application it is proved that the $d$-decomposability of an order complete random normed space is exactly its $d$-$σ$-stability. Finally, we prove that an equivalence relation on the product space $X\times B$ of a nonempty set $X$ and a complete Boolean algebra $B$ is regular iff it can be induced by a $B$-valued Boolean metric $d$ on $X$, as an application it is proved that a nonempty subset of a Boolean set $(X,d)$ is universally complete iff it is a $B$-stable set defined by a regular equivalence relation.

Multiple-antenna technologies are evolving towards large-scale aperture sizes, extremely high frequencies, and innovative antenna types. This evolution is giving rise to the emergence of near-field communications (NFC) in future wireless systems. Considerable attention has been directed towards this cutting-edge technology due to its potential to enhance the capacity of wireless networks by introducing increased spatial degrees of freedom (DoFs) in the range domain. Within this context, a comprehensive review of the state of the art on NFC is presented, with a specific focus on its 1) fundamental operating principles, 2) channel modeling, 3) performance analysis, 4) signal processing, and 5) integration with other emerging technologies. Specifically, 1) the basic principles of NFC are characterized from both physics and communications perspectives, unveiling its unique properties in contrast to far-field communications. 2) Based on these principles, deterministic and stochastic near-field channel models are investigated for spatially-discrete (SPD) and continuous-aperture (CAP) antenna arrays. 3) Rooted in these models, existing contributions on near-field performance analysis are reviewed in terms of DoFs/effective DoFs (EDoFs), power scaling law, and transmission rate. 4) Existing signal processing techniques for NFC are systematically surveyed, encompassing channel estimation, beamforming design, and low-complexity beam training. 5) Major issues and research opportunities associated with the integration of NFC and other emerging technologies are identified to facilitate NFC applications in next-generation networks. Promising directions are highlighted throughout the paper to inspire future research endeavors in the realm of NFC.

A machine learning (ML) feature network is a graph that connects ML features in learning tasks based on their similarity. This network representation allows us to view feature vectors as functions on the network. By leveraging function operations from Fourier analysis and from functional analysis, one can easily generate new and novel features, making use of the graph structure imposed on the feature vectors. Such network structures have previously been studied implicitly in image processing and computational biology. We thus describe feature networks as graph structures imposed on feature vectors, and provide applications in machine learning. One application involves graph-based generalizations of convolutional neural networks, involving structured deep learning with hierarchical representations of features that have varying depth or complexity. This extends also to learning algorithms that are able to generate useful new multilevel features. Additionally, we discuss the use of feature networks to engineer new features, which can enhance the expressiveness of the model. We give a specific example of a deep tree-structured feature network, where hierarchical connections are formed through feature clustering and feed-forward learning. This results in low learning complexity and computational efficiency. Unlike "standard" neural features which are limited to modulated (thresholded) linear combinations of adjacent ones, feature networks offer more general feedforward dependencies among features. For example, radial basis functions or graph structure-based dependencies between features can be utilized.

With the growing use of large language models hosted on cloud platforms to offer inference services, privacy concerns are escalating, especially concerning sensitive data like investment plans and bank account details. Secure Multi-Party Computing (SMPC) emerges as a promising solution to protect the privacy of inference data and model parameters. However, the application of SMPC in Privacy-Preserving Inference (PPI) for large language models, particularly those based on the Transformer architecture, often leads to considerable slowdowns or declines in performance. This is largely due to the multitude of nonlinear operations in the Transformer architecture, which are not well-suited to SMPC and difficult to circumvent or optimize effectively. To address this concern, we introduce an advanced optimization framework called SecFormer, to achieve fast and accurate PPI for Transformer models. By implementing model design optimization, we successfully eliminate the high-cost exponential and maximum operations in PPI without sacrificing model performance. Additionally, we have developed a suite of efficient SMPC protocols that utilize segmented polynomials, Fourier series and Goldschmidt's method to handle other complex nonlinear functions within PPI, such as GeLU, LayerNorm, and Softmax. Our extensive experiments reveal that SecFormer outperforms MPCFormer in performance, showing improvements of $5.6\%$ and $24.2\%$ for BERT$_{\text{BASE}}$ and BERT$_{\text{LARGE}}$, respectively. In terms of efficiency, SecFormer is 3.56 and 3.58 times faster than Puma for BERT$_{\text{BASE}}$ and BERT$_{\text{LARGE}}$, demonstrating its effectiveness and speed.

In the rapidly growing digital economy, protecting intellectual property (IP) associated with digital products has become increasingly important. Within this context, machine learning (ML) models, being highly valuable digital assets, have gained significant attention for IP protection. This paper introduces a practical encryption-based framework called \textit{EncryIP}, which seamlessly integrates a public-key encryption scheme into the model learning process. This approach enables the protected model to generate randomized and confused labels, ensuring that only individuals with accurate secret keys, signifying authorized users, can decrypt and reveal authentic labels. Importantly, the proposed framework not only facilitates the protected model to multiple authorized users without requiring repetitive training of the original ML model with IP protection methods but also maintains the model's performance without compromising its accuracy. Compared to existing methods like watermark-based, trigger-based, and passport-based approaches, \textit{EncryIP} demonstrates superior effectiveness in both training protected models and efficiently detecting the unauthorized spread of ML models.

This article revisits integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems that operate in the near-field region of large antenna arrays while utilizing large bandwidths. The article first describes the basic characteristics of a wideband sensing and communication (S&C) channel, highlighting the key changes that occur during the transition from the far-field to the near-field region, namely strong angular delay correlations and non-uniform Doppler frequencies. It is then revealed that the near-field effect can facilitate wideband-like S&C functionality, leading to efficient signal multiplexing and accurate distance sensing, and making large antenna arrays a viable alternative to large bandwidths. In addition, new capabilities for Doppler-domain signal multiplexing and velocity sensing enabled by non-uniform Doppler frequencies, which cannot be achieved by extending the bandwidth alone, are presented. Motivated by these results, several paradigm shifts required to leverage the full potential of near-field wideband ISAC systems are discussed, with particular emphasis on spectrum allocation, antenna array arrangement, transceiver architecture, and waveform design.

A near-field integrated sensing, positioning, and communication (ISPAC) framework is proposed, where a base station (BS) simultaneously serves multiple communication users and carries out target sensing and positioning. A novel double-array structure is proposed to enable the near-field ISPAC at the BS. Specifically, a small-scale assisting transceiver (AT) is attached to the large-scale main transceiver (MT) to empower the communication system with the ability of sensing and positioning. Based on the proposed framework, the joint angle and distance Cramér-Rao bound (CRB) is first derived. Then, the CRB is minimized subject to the minimum communication rate requirement in both downlink and uplink ISPAC scenarios: 1) For downlink ISPAC, a downlink target positioning algorithm is proposed and a penalty dual decomposition (PDD)-based double-loop algorithm is developed to tackle the non-convex optimization problem. 2) For uplink ISPAC, an uplink target positioning algorithm is proposed and an efficient alternating optimization algorithm is conceived to solve the non-convex CRB minimization problem with coupled user communication and target probing design. Both proposed optimization algorithms can converge to a stationary point of the CRB minimization problem. Numerical results show that: 1) The proposed ISPAC system can locate the target in both angle and distance domains merely relying on single BS and limited bandwidths; and 2) the positioning performance achieved by the hybrid-analog-and-digital ISPAC approaches that achieved by fully digital ISPAC when the communication rate requirement is not stringent.

Migration has been a universal phenomenon, which brings opportunities as well as challenges for global development. As the number of migrants (e.g., refugees) increases rapidly in recent years, a key challenge faced by each country is the problem of migrant resettlement. This problem has attracted scientific research attention, from the perspective of maximizing the employment rate. Previous works mainly formulated migrant resettlement as an approximately submodular optimization problem subject to multiple matroid constraints and employed the greedy algorithm, whose performance, however, may be limited due to its greedy nature. In this paper, we propose a new framework MR-EMO based on Evolutionary Multi-objective Optimization, which reformulates Migrant Resettlement as a bi-objective optimization problem that maximizes the expected number of employed migrants and minimizes the number of dispatched migrants simultaneously, and employs a Multi-Objective Evolutionary Algorithm (MOEA) to solve the bi-objective problem. We implement MR-EMO using three MOEAs, the popular NSGA-II, MOEA/D as well as the theoretically grounded GSEMO. To further improve the performance of MR-EMO, we propose a specific MOEA, called GSEMO-SR, using matrix-swap mutation and repair mechanism, which has a better ability to search for feasible solutions. We prove that MR-EMO using either GSEMO or GSEMO-SR can achieve better theoretical guarantees than the previous greedy algorithm. Experimental results under the interview and coordination migration models clearly show the superiority of MR-EMO (with either NSGA-II, MOEA/D, GSEMO or GSEMO-SR) over previous algorithms, and that using GSEMO-SR leads to the best performance of MR-EMO.

First, two fundamental configurations of STARS-enabled ISAC systems are introduced, namely integrated full-space configuration and separated half-space configuration, as well as their respective advantages and common challenges are identified. To address the aforementioned challenges, a novel sensing-at-STARS design is proposed, where the sensing functionality is achieved at the STARS instead of at the base station. Such a design significantly improves the echo signal energy by eliminating undesired echo energy attenuation/leakage, in addition to establishing favorable echo propagation paths to facilitate sensing information extraction. We also present three practical implementations for sensing-at-STARS, including separated elements, mode-selection elements, and power-splitting elements. Each implementation enables flexible sensing-communication tradeoffs. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed STARS-enabled ISAC design. True-time delayers (TTDs) are popular components for hybrid beamforming architectures to combat the spatial-wideband effect in wideband near-field communications. In this paper, a serial and a hybrid serial-parallel TTD configuration are investigated for hybrid beamforming architectures. Compared to the conventional parallel configuration, the serial configuration exhibits a cumulative time delay caused by multiple TTDs, which potentially alleviates the maximum delay requirements on the individual TTDs. However, independent control of individual TTDs becomes impossible in the serial configuration. Therefore, a hybrid TTD configuration is proposed as a compromise solution. Furthermore, a power equalization approach is proposed to address the cumulative insertion loss of the serial and hybrid TTD configurations. The wideband near-field beamforming design for different configurations is studied to maximize the spectral efficiency in both single-user and multiple-user systems. 1) For single-user systems, a closed-form solution for the beamforming design is derived. The preferred user locations and the required maximum time delay of each TTD configuration are characterized. 2) For multi-user systems, a penalty-based iterative algorithm is developed to obtain a stationary point of the spectral efficiency maximization problem for the considered TTD configurations. In addition, a hybrid-forward-and-backward (HFB) implementation is proposed to enhance the performance of the serial configuration. Our numerical results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed designs and unveil that i) compared to the conventional parallel configuration, both the serial and hybrid configurations can significantly reduce the maximum time delays required for the individual TTDs and ii) the hybrid configuration excels in single-user systems, while the HFB serial configuration is preferred in multi-user systems.

Keypoint-based representation has proven advantageous in various visual and robotic tasks. However, the existing 2D and 3D methods for detecting keypoints mainly rely on geometric consistency to achieve spatial alignment, neglecting temporal consistency. To address this issue, the Transporter method was introduced for 2D data, which reconstructs the target frame from the source frame to incorporate both spatial and temporal information. However, the direct application of the Transporter to 3D point clouds is infeasible due to their structural differences from 2D images. Thus, we propose the first 3D version of the Transporter, which leverages hybrid 3D representation, cross attention, and implicit reconstruction. We apply this new learning system on 3D articulated objects and nonrigid animals (humans and rodents) and show that learned keypoints are spatio-temporally consistent. Additionally, we propose a closed-loop control strategy that utilizes the learned keypoints for 3D object manipulation and demonstrate its superior performance. We perform a multitracer full-shape analysis in Fourier space based on the effective field theory of large-scale structure (EFTofLSS) using the complete Sloan Digital Sky Survey IV (SDSS-IV) extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS) DR16 luminous red galaxy (LRG) and emission line galaxy (ELG) samples. We study in detail the impact of the volume projection effect and different prior choices when doing the full-shape analysis based on the EFTofLSS model. We show that adopting a combination of Jeffreys prior and Gaussian prior can mitigate the volume effect and avoid exploring unphysical regions in the parameter space at the same time, which is crucial when jointly analysing the eBOSS LRG and ELG samples. We validate our pipeline using 1000 eBOSS EZmocks. By performing a multitracer analysis on mocks with comparable footprints, we find that cosmological constraints can be improved by $\sim10-35$ per cent depending on whether we assume zero stochastic terms in the cross power spectrum, which breaks the degeneracy and boosts the constraints on the standard deviation of matter density fluctuation $σ_8$. Combining with the Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN) prior and fixing the spectral tilt $n_s$ to Planck value, our multitracer full-shape analysis measures $H_0=70.0\pm2.3~{\mathrm{km}}~{\mathrm{s}}^{-1}{\mathrm{Mpc}}^{-1}$, $Ω_m=0.317^{+0.017}_{-0.021}$, $σ_8=0.787_{-0.062}^{+0.055}$ and $S_8=0.809_{-0.078}^{+0.064}$, consistent with the Planck~2018 results. In particular, the constraint on $σ_8$ is improved beyond that obtained from the single tracer analysis by $18$ per cent, or by $27$ per cent when assuming zero stochastic terms in the cross power spectrum.

Understanding the life cycle of the machine learning (ML) model is an intriguing area of research (e.g., understanding where the model comes from, how it is trained, and how it is used). This paper focuses on a novel problem within this field, namely Model Provenance (MP), which concerns the relationship between a target model and its pre-training model and aims to determine whether a source model serves as the provenance for a target model. This is an important problem that has significant implications for ensuring the security and intellectual property of machine learning models but has not received much attention in the literature. To fill in this gap, we introduce a novel concept of Model DNA which represents the unique characteristics of a machine learning model. We utilize a data-driven and model-driven representation learning method to encode the model's training data and input-output information as a compact and comprehensive representation (i.e., DNA) of the model. Using this model DNA, we develop an efficient framework for model provenance identification, which enables us to identify whether a source model is a pre-training model of a target model. We conduct evaluations on both computer vision and natural language processing tasks using various models, datasets, and scenarios to demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach in accurately identifying model provenance.

This paper proposes a novel simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surface (STAR-RIS) assisted unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) emergency communication network. Multiple STAR-RISs are deployed to provide additional and intelligent transmission links between trapped users and UAV-mounted base station (BS). Each user selects the nearest STAR-RIS for uploading data, and NOMA is employed for users located at the same side of the same STAR-RIS. Considering piratical requirements of post-disaster emergency communications, we formulate a throughput maximization problem subject to constraints on minimum average rate and maximum energy consumption, where the UAV trajectory, STAR-RIS passive beamforming, and time and power allocation are jointly optimized. Furthermore, we propose a Lagrange based reward constrained proximal policy optimization (LRCPPO) algorithm, which provides an adaptive method for solving the long-term optimization problem with cumulative constraints. Specifically, using Lagrange relaxation, the original problem is transformed into an unconstrained problem with a two-layer structure. The inner layer is solved by penalized reward based proximal policy optimization (PPO) algorithm. In the outer layer, Lagrange multipliers are updated by gradient descent. Numerical results show the proposed algorithm can effectively improve network performance while satisfying the constraints well. It also demonstrates the superiority of the proposed STAR-RIS assisted UAV NOMA network architecture over the benchmark schemes employing reflecting-only RISs and orthogonal multiple access.

A set of nozzle equipment for proton therapy is now being developed at China Institute of Atomic Energy. To facilitate the off-line commissioning of the whole equipment, a set of ionization chamber signal generation system, the test electronics, is designed. The system uses ZYNQ SoC as the main control unit and outputs the beam dose analog signal through DAC8532. The dual SPDT analog switch, DG636, is used to simulate the beam position signals according to Gaussian distribution. The results show that the system can simulate the beam position, dose, and other related analog signals generated by the proton beam when passing through the ionization chamber. Moreover, the accuracy of the simulated beam position is within +/-0.33mm, and the accuracy of the simulated dose signal is within +/-1%. At the same time, it can output analog signals representing environmental parameters. The test electronics meets the design requirements, which can be used to commission the nozzle system as well as the treatment control system without the proton beam.

A near-field wideband communication system is investigated in which a base station (BS) employs an extra-large scale antenna array (ELAA) to serve multiple users in its near-field region. To facilitate near-field multi-user beamforming and mitigate the spatial wideband effect, the BS employs a hybrid beamforming architecture based on true-time delayers (TTDs). In addition to the conventional fully-connected TTD-based hybrid beamforming architecture, a new sub-connected architecture is proposed to improve energy efficiency and reduce hardware requirements. Two wideband beamforming optimization approaches are proposed to maximize spectral efficiency for both architectures. 1) Fully-digital approximation (FDA) approach: In this method, the TTD-based hybrid beamformer is optimized by the block-coordinate descent and penalty method to approximate the optimal digital beamformer. This approach ensures convergence to the stationary point of the spectral efficiency maximization problem. 2) Heuristic two-stage (HTS) approach: In this approach, the analog and digital beamformers are designed in two stages. In particular, two low-complexity methods are proposed to design the high-dimensional analog beamformers based on approximate and exact line-of-sight channels, respectively. Subsequently, the low-dimensional digital beamformer is optimized based on the low-dimensional equivalent channels, resulting in reduced computational complexity and channel estimation complexity. Our numerical results show that 1) the proposed approach effectively eliminates the spatial wideband effect, and 2) the proposed sub-connected architecture is more energy efficient and has fewer hardware constraints on the TTD and system bandwidth compared to the fully-connected architecture.

Recently, simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (STAR-RISs) have received significant research interest. The employment of large STAR-RIS and high-frequency signaling inevitably make the near-field propagation dominant in wireless communications. In this work, a STAR-RIS aided near-field multiple-input multiple-multiple (MIMO) communication framework is proposed. A weighted sum rate maximization problem for the joint optimization of the active beamforming at the base station (BS) and the transmission/reflection-coefficients (TRCs) at the STAR-RIS is formulated. The non-convex problem is solved by a block coordinate descent (BCD)-based algorithm. In particular, under given STAR-RIS TRCs, the optimal active beamforming matrices are obtained by solving a convex quadratically constrained quadratic program. For given active beamforming matrices, two algorithms are suggested for optimizing the STAR-RIS TRCs: a penalty-based iterative (PEN) algorithm and an element-wise iterative (ELE) algorithm. The latter algorithm is conceived for STAR-RISs with a large number of elements. Numerical results illustrate that: i) near-field beamforming for STAR-RIS aided MIMO communications significantly improves the achieved weighted sum rate compared with far-field beamforming; ii) the near-field channels facilitated by the STAR-RIS provide enhanced degrees-of-freedom and accessibility for the multi-user MIMO system; and iii) the BCD-PEN algorithm achieves better performance than the BCD-ELE algorithm, while the latter has a significantly lower computational complexity.

This article focuses on the near-field effect in terahertz (THz) communications and sensing systems. By equipping with extremely large-scale antenna arrays (ELAAs), the near-field region in THz systems can be possibly extended to hundreds of meters in proximity to THz transceivers, which necessitates the consideration of near-field effect in the THz band both for the communications and sensing. We first review the main characteristics of the near-field region in the THz bands. The signal propagation in the near-field region is characterized by spherical waves rather than planar waves in the far-field region. This distinction introduces a new distance dimension to the communication and sensing channels, which brings new opportunities and challenges for both THz communications and sensing. More particularly, 1) For THz communications, the near-field effect enables a new mechanism for beamforming, namely, beamfocusing, in the focusing region. Furthermore, in THz multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) systems, the near-field effect can be exploited to combat the multiplexing gain degradation caused by the sparse THz channels. To address the near-field beam split effect caused by the conventional frequency-independent hybrid beamforming architecture in THz wideband communications, we propose a pair of wideband beamforming optimization approaches by a new hybrid beamforming architecture based on true-time-delayers (TTDs). 2) For THz sensing, joint angle and distance sensing can be achieved in the near-field region. Additionally, the near-field beam split becomes a beneficial effect for enhancing the sensing performance by focusing on multiple possible target locations rather than a drawback encountered in communications. Finally, several topics for future research are discussed.

As the saying goes, "seeing is believing". However, with the development of digital face editing tools, we can no longer trust what we can see. Although face forgery detection has made promising progress, most current methods are designed manually by human experts, which is labor-consuming. In this paper, we develop an end-to-end framework based on neural architecture search (NAS) for deepfake detection, which can automatically design network architectures without human intervention. First, a forgery-oriented search space is created to choose appropriate operations for this task. Second, we propose a novel performance estimation metric, which guides the search process to select more general models. The cross-dataset search is also considered to develop more general architectures. Eventually, we connect the cells in a cascaded pyramid way for final forgery classification. Compared with state-of-the-art networks artificially designed, our method achieves competitive performance in both in-dataset and cross-dataset scenarios.

Exploring sparse reward multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) environments with traps in a collaborative manner is a complex task. Agents typically fail to reach the goal state and fall into traps, which affects the overall performance of the system. To overcome this issue, we present SOMARL, a framework that uses prior knowledge to reduce the exploration space and assist learning. In SOMARL, agents are treated as part of the MARL environment, and symbolic knowledge is embedded using a tree structure to build a knowledge hierarchy. The framework has a two-layer hierarchical structure, comprising a hybrid module with a Hierarchical Task Network (HTN) planning and meta-controller at the higher level, and a MARL-based interactive module at the lower level. The HTN module and meta-controller use Hierarchical Domain Definition Language (HDDL) and the option framework to formalize symbolic knowledge and obtain domain knowledge and a symbolic option set, respectively. Moreover, the HTN module leverages domain knowledge to guide low-level agent exploration by assisting the meta-controller in selecting symbolic options. The meta-controller further computes intrinsic rewards of symbolic options to limit exploration behavior and adjust HTN planning solutions as needed. We evaluate SOMARL on two benchmarks, FindTreasure and MoveBox, and report superior performance over state-of-the-art MARL and subgoal-based baselines for MARL environments significantly.

We study the Hankel determinant generated by a Gaussian weight with Fisher-Hartwig singularities of root type at $t_j$, $j=1,\cdots ,N$. It characterizes a type of average characteristic polynomial of matrices from Gaussian unitary ensembles. We derive the ladder operators satisfied by the associated monic orthogonal polynomials and three compatibility conditions. By using them and introducing $2N$ auxiliary quantities $\{R_{n,j}, r_{n,j}, j=1,\cdots,N\}$, we build a series of difference equations. Furthermore, we prove that $\{R_{n,j}, r_{n,j}\}$ satisfy Riccati equations. From them we deduce a system of second order PDEs satisfied by $\{R_{n,j}, j=1,\cdots,N\}$, which reduces to a Painlevé IV equation for $N=1$. We also show that the logarithmic derivative of the Hankel determinant satisfies the generalized $σ$-form of a Painlevé IV equation.

Extremely large-scale antenna arrays, tremendously high frequencies, and new types of antennas are three clear trends in multi-antenna technology for supporting the sixth-generation (6G) networks. To properly account for the new characteristics introduced by these three trends in communication system design, the near-field spherical-wave propagation model needs to be used, which differs from the classical far-field planar-wave one. As such, near-field communication (NFC) will become essential in 6G networks. In this tutorial, we cover three key aspects of NFC. 1) Channel Modelling: We commence by reviewing near-field spherical-wave-based channel models for spatially-discrete (SPD) antennas. Then, uniform spherical wave (USW) and non-uniform spherical wave (NUSW) models are discussed. Subsequently, we introduce a general near-field channel model for SPD antennas and a Green's function-based channel model for continuous-aperture (CAP) antennas. 2) Beamfocusing and Antenna Architectures: We highlight the properties of near-field beamfocusing and discuss NFC antenna architectures for both SPD and CAP antennas. Moreover, the basic principles of near-field beam training are introduced. 3) Performance Analysis: Finally, we provide a comprehensive performance analysis framework for NFC. For near-field line-of-sight channels, the received signal-to-noise ratio and power-scaling law are derived. For statistical near-field multipath channels, a general analytical framework is proposed, based on which analytical expressions for the outage probability, ergodic channel capacity, and ergodic mutual information are obtained. Finally, for each aspect, topics for future research are discussed.

Oscillation modes of compact stars, in general, can serve as a fingerprint in determining the equation of state (EOS) of dense matter. In this study, we examine the impact of symmetry energy slope ($L$) on the oscillation frequencies of neutron stars (NSs) with nucleon-nucleon short range correlation (SRC) and admixed dark matter (DM) for the first time within the relativistic mean-field theory. By adjusting the $L$, we revise the EOS and coupling parameters in light of the SRC and DM effects, and construct the new sets. The results reveal that NSs containing SRC and DM inside are more likely to satisfy the observational constraints, and we find that smaller $L$ exhibits larger fundamental non-radial and radial frequencies, and that the effect on Large Separation (LG) is also mainly concentrated in the low-mass region. Moreover, we update the linear relationship between the non-radial frequency and mean density, and we further give empirical relations between non-radial and radial frequencies and tidal deformability at different $L$ for 1.4$M_{\odot}$ and 2$M_{\odot}$. These findings will enable us to more effectively confine the NS EOSs, in turn, also provide a strategy to place constraints on the $L$.

A near-field simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) network is investigated, where the hybrid beamforming architecture is employed at the base station (BS) for information transmission while charging energy harvesting users. A transmit power minimization problem is formulated by jointly optimizing of the analog beamformer, the baseband digital information/energy beamformers, and the number of dedicated energy beams. To tackle the uncertain number of dedicated energy beams, a semidefinite relaxation based rank-one solution construction method is proposed to obtain the optimal baseband digital beamformers under the fixed analog precoder. Based on the structure of the optimal baseband digital beamformers, it is proved that no dedicated energy beam is required in near-field SWIPT. To further exploit this insight, a penalty-based two-layer (PTL) algorithm is proposed to optimize the analog beamformer and baseband digital information beamformers. By employing the block coordinate descent method, the optimal analog beamformer and baseband digital information beamformers are obtained in the closed-form expressions. Moreover, to reduce the high computational complexity caused by the large number of antennas, a low-complexity two-stage algorithm is proposed. Numerical results illustrate that: 1) the proposed PTL algorithm can achieve the near-optimal performance; and 2) in contract to the far-field SWIPT, single near-field beamformer can focus the energy on multiple locations.

The novel concept of near-field non-orthogonal multiple access (NF-NOMA) communications is proposed. The near-filed beamfocusing enables NOMA to be carried out in both angular and distance domains. Two novel frameworks are proposed, namely, single-location-beamfocusing NF-NOMA (SLB-NF-NOMA) and multiple-location-beamfocusing NF-NOMA (MLB-NF-NOMA). 1) For SLB-NF-NOMA, two NOMA users in the same angular direction with distinct quality of service (QoS) requirements can be grouped into one cluster. The hybrid beamformer design and power allocation problem is formulated to maximize the sum rate of the users with higher QoS (H-QoS) requirements. To solve this problem, the analog beamformer is first designed to focus the energy on the H-QoS users and the zero-forcing (ZF) digital beamformer is employed. Then, the optimal power allocation is obtained. 2) For MLB-NF-NOMA, the two NOMA users in the same cluster can have different angular directions. The analog beamformer is first designed to focus the energy on both two NOMA users. Then, a singular value decomposition (SVD) based ZF (SVD-ZF) digital beamformer is designed. Furthermore, a novel antenna allocation algorithm is proposed. Finally, a suboptimal power allocation algorithm is proposed. Numerical results demonstrate that the NF-NOMA can achieve a higher spectral efficiency and provide a higher flexibility than conventional far-field NOMA.
