The increased importance of cybersecurity in autonomous machinery is becoming evident in the forestry domain. Forestry worksites are becoming more complex with the involvement of multiple systems and system of systems. Hence, there is a need to investigate how to address cybersecurity challenges for autonomous systems of systems in the forestry domain. Using a literature review and adapting standards from similar domains, as well as collaborative sessions with domain experts, we identify challenges towards CE-certified autonomous forestry machines focusing on cybersecurity and safety. Furthermore, we discuss the relationship between safety and cybersecurity risk assessment and their relation to AI, highlighting the need for a holistic methodology for their assurance.

In dealing with altered multimedia news content, also referred to as fake news, we present a ready-to-deploy scheme based on existing public key infrastructure as a new fake news defense paradigm. This scheme enables news organizations to certify/endorse a newsworthy multimedia news content and securely and conveniently pass this trust information to end users. A news organization can use our program to digitally sign the multimedia news content with its private key. By installing a browser extension, an end user can easily verify whether a news content has been endorsed and by which organization. It is totally up to the end user whether to trust the news or the endorsing news organization. The underlining principles of our scheme are that fake news will sooner or later be identified as fake by general population, and a news organization puts its long-term reputation on the line when endorsing a news content.

There is a growing interest in analysing the freshness of data in networked systems. Age of Information (AoI) has emerged as a popular metric to quantify this freshness at a given destination. There has been a significant research effort in optimizing this metric in communication and networking systems under different settings. In contrast to previous works, we are interested in a fundamental question, what is the minimum achievable AoI in any single-server-single-source queuing system for a given service-time distribution? To address this question, we study a problem of optimizing AoI under service preemptions. Our main result is on the characterization of the minimum achievable average peak AoI (PAoI). We obtain this result by showing that a fixed-threshold policy is optimal in the set of all randomized-threshold causal policies. We use the characterization to provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the service-time distributions under which preemptions are beneficial.
