In classical game theory, optimal strategies are determined for games with complete information; this requires knowledge of the opponent's goals. We analyze games when a player is mistaken about their opponents goals. For definitiveness, we study the (common) bimatrix formulation where both player's payoffs are matrices. While the payoff matrix weights are arbitrary, we focus on strict ordinal payoff matrices, which can be enumerated. In this case, a reasonable error would be for one player to switch two ordinal values in their opponents payoff matrix. The mathematical formulation of this problem is stated, and all 78 strict ordinal 2-by-2 bimatrix games are investigated. This type of incomplete information game has not -- to our knowledge -- been studied before.

In this paper, we investigate the mesoscale structure of the World Trade Network. In this framework, a specific role is assumed by short and long-range interactions, and hence by the distance, between countries. Therefore, we identify clusters through a new procedure that exploits Estrada communicability distance and the vibrational communicability distance, which turn out to be particularly suitable for catching the inner structure of the economic network. The proposed methodology aims at finding the distance threshold that maximizes a specific modularity function defined for general metric spaces. Main advantages regard the computational efficiency of the procedure as well as the possibility to inspect intercluster and intracluster properties of the resulting communities. The numerical analysis highlights peculiar relationships between countries and provides a rich set of information that can hardly be achieved within alternative clustering approaches.

Understanding the structure of communities in a network has a great importance in the economic analysis. Communities are indeed characterized by specific properties, that are different from those of both the individual node and the whole network, and they can affect various processes on the network. In the International Trade Network, community detection aims to search sets of countries (or of trade sectors) which have a high intra-cluster connectivity and a low inter-cluster connectivity. In general, exchanges among countries occur according to preferential economic relationships ranging over different sectors. In this paper, we combine community detection with specific topological indicators, such as centrality measures. As a result, a new weighted network is constructed by the original one, in which weights are determined taking into account all the topological indicators in a multi-criteria approach. To solve the resulting Clique Partitioning Problem and find homogeneous group of nations, we use a new fast algorithm, based on quick descents to a local optimal solution. The analysis allows to cluster countries by interconnections, economic power and intensity of trade, giving an important overview on the international trade patterns.

This work deals with the issue of assessing the influence of a node in the entire network and in the subnetwork to which it belongs as well, adapting the classical idea of vertex centrality. We provide a general definition of relative vertex centrality measure with respect to the classical one, referred to the whole network. Specifically, we give a decomposition of the relative centrality measure by including also the relative influence of the single node with respect to a given subgraph containing it. The proposed measure of relative centrality is tested in the empirical networks generated by collecting assets of the $S\&P$ 100, focusing on two specific centrality indices: betweenness and eigenvector centrality. The analysis is performed in a time perspective, capturing the assets influence, with respect to the characteristics of the analysed measures, in both the entire network and the specific sectors to which the assets belong.

This paper presents a new definition of the community structure of a network, which takes also into account how communities are stratified. In particular, we extend the standard concept of clustering coefficient and provide the local $l$-adjacency clustering coefficient of a node $i$. We define it as an opportunely weighted mean of the clustering coefficients of nodes which are at distance $l$ from $i$. The stratus of the community associated to node $i$ is identified by the distance $l$ from $i$, so that the standard clustering coefficient is a peculiar local $l$-adjacency clustering coefficient at stratus $l=0$. As the distance $l$ varies, the local $l$-adjacency clustering coefficient is then used to infer insights on the community structure of the entire network. Empirical experiments on special business networks are carried out. In particular, the analysis of air traffic networks validate the theoretical proposal and provide supporting arguments on its usefulness.

Interactions between people and ecological systems, through leisure or tourism activities, form a complex socio-ecological spatial network. The analysis of the benefits people derive from their interactions with nature -- also referred to as cultural ecosystem services (CES) -- enables a better understanding of these socio-ecological systems. In the age of information, the increasing availability of large social media databases enables a better understanding of complex socio-ecological interactions at an unprecedented spatio-temporal resolution. Within this context, we model and analyze these interactions based on information extracted from geotagged photographs embedded into a multiscale socio-ecological network. We apply this approach to 16 case study sites in Europe using a social media database (Flickr) containing more than 150,000 validated and classified photographs. After evaluating the representativeness of the network, we investigate the impact of visitors' origin on the distribution of socio-ecological interactions at different scales. First at a global scale, we develop a spatial measure of attractiveness and use this to identify four groups of sites. Then, at a local scale, we explore how the distance traveled by the users to reach a site affects the way they interact with this site in space and time. The approach developed here, integrating social media data into a network-based framework, offers a new way of visualizing and modeling interactions between humans and landscapes. Results provide valuable insights for understanding relationships between social demands for CES and the places of their realization, thus allowing for the development of more efficient conservation and planning strategies.

In this paper, we consider the problem of assessing local clustering in complex networks. Various definitions for this measure have been proposed for the cases of networks having weighted edges, but less attention has been paid to both weighted and directed networks. We provide a new local clustering coefficient for this kind of networks, starting from those existing in the literature for the weighted and undirected case. Furthermore, we extract from our coefficient four specific components, in order to separately consider different link patterns of triangles. Empirical applications on several real networks from different frameworks and with different order are provided. The performance of our coefficient is also compared with that of existing coefficients in the literature.
