Entropy or randomness represents a foundational security property in security-related operations, such as key generation. Key generation in turn is central to security protocols such as authentication and encryption. Physical unclonable functions (PUF) are hardware-based primitives that can serve as key generation engines in modern microelectronic devices and applications. PUFs derive entropy from manufacturing variations that exist naturally within and across otherwise identical copies of a device. However, the levels of random variations that represent entropy, which are strongly correlated to the quality of the PUF-generated bitstrings, vary from one manufacturer to another. In this paper, we evaluate entropy across a set of devices manufactured by three mainstream FPGA vendors, Xilinx, Altera and Microsemi. The devices selected for evaluation are considered low-end commercial devices to make the analysis relevant to IoT applications. The SiRF PUF is used in the evaluation, and is constructed nearly identically across the three vendor devices, setting aside minor differences that exist in certain logic element primitives used within the PUF architecture, and which have only a minor impact on our comparative analysis. The SiRF PUF uses a high-resolution time-to-digital converter (TDC) crafted from high-speed carry-chain logic embedded within each device to measure path delays in an engineered netlist of logic gates as a source of entropy. Therefore, our analysis includes an evaluation of actual path delay variation as it exists across the three device classes, as well as a statistical evaluation of the PUF-generated bitstrings. A reliablity analysis is also provided using data collected in industrial-standard temperature experiments to round out the evaluation of important statistical properties of the PUF.

In this paper, we propose a natural language processing architecture that can handle tasks that previously required two models as one model. With a single model, we analyze the language patterns and conversational context of Alzheimer's patients and derive answers from two results: patient classification and chatbot. If the patient's language characteristics are identified by chatbots in daily life, doctors can plan more precise diagnosis and treatment for early diagnosis. The proposed model is used to develop chatbots that replace questionnaires that required experts. There are two natural language processing tasks performed by the model. The first is a 'natural language classification' that indicates with probability whether the patient has an illness, and the second is to generate the next 'answer' of the chatbot to the patient's answer. In the first half, a context vector, which is a characteristic of patient utterance, is extracted through a self-attention neural network. This context vector and chatbot (expert, moderator) questions are entered together into the encoder to obtain a matrix containing the characteristics of the interaction between the questioner and the patient. The vectorized matrix becomes a probability value for classification of patients. Enter the matrix into the decoder with the next answer from the chatbot (the moderator) to generate the next utterance. As a result of learning this structure with DmentiaBank's cookie theft description corpus, it was confirmed that the value of the loss function of the encoder and decoder was significantly reduced and converged. This shows that capturing the speech language pattern of Alzheimer's disease patients can contribute to early diagnosis and longitudinal studies of the disease in the future.

Prior work on language models (LMs) shows that training on a large number of diverse tasks improves few-shot learning (FSL) performance on new tasks. We take this to the extreme, automatically extracting 413,299 tasks from internet tables - orders of magnitude more than the next-largest public datasets. Finetuning on the resulting dataset leads to improved FSL performance on Natural Language Processing (NLP) tasks, but not proportionally to dataset scale. In fact, we find that narrow subsets of our dataset sometimes outperform more diverse datasets. For example, finetuning on software documentation from support.google.com raises FSL performance by a mean of +7.5% on 52 downstream tasks, which beats training on 40 human-curated NLP datasets (+6.7%). Finetuning on various narrow datasets leads to similar broad improvements across test tasks, suggesting that the gains are not from domain adaptation but adapting to FSL in general. We do not observe clear patterns between the datasets that lead to FSL gains, leaving open questions about why certain data helps with FSL.

Neural approaches for combinatorial optimization (CO) equip a learning mechanism to discover powerful heuristics for solving complex real-world problems. While neural approaches capable of high-quality solutions in a single shot are emerging, state-of-the-art approaches are often unable to take full advantage of the solving time available to them. In contrast, hand-crafted heuristics perform highly effective search well and exploit the computation time given to them, but contain heuristics that are difficult to adapt to a dataset being solved. With the goal of providing a powerful search procedure to neural CO approaches, we propose simulation-guided beam search (SGBS), which examines candidate solutions within a fixed-width tree search that both a neural net-learned policy and a simulation (rollout) identify as promising. We further hybridize SGBS with efficient active search (EAS), where SGBS enhances the quality of solutions backpropagated in EAS, and EAS improves the quality of the policy used in SGBS. We evaluate our methods on well-known CO benchmarks and show that SGBS significantly improves the quality of the solutions found under reasonable runtime assumptions.

Video understanding has attracted much research attention especially since the recent availability of large-scale video benchmarks. In this paper, we address the problem of multi-label video classification. We first observe that there exists a significant knowledge gap between how machines and humans learn. That is, while current machine learning approaches including deep neural networks largely focus on the representations of the given data, humans often look beyond the data at hand and leverage external knowledge to make better decisions. Towards narrowing the gap, we propose to incorporate external knowledge graphs into video classification. In particular, we unify traditional "knowledgeless" machine learning models and knowledge graphs in a novel end-to-end framework. The framework is flexible to work with most existing video classification algorithms including state-of-the-art deep models. Finally, we conduct extensive experiments on the largest public video dataset YouTube-8M. The results are promising across the board, improving mean average precision by up to 2.9%.
