When applying integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) in future mobile networks, many sensing tasks have low latency requirements, preferably being implemented at terminals. However, terminals often have limited computing capabilities and energy supply. In this paper, we investigate the effectiveness of leveraging the advanced computing capabilities of mobile edge computing (MEC) servers and the cloud server to address the sensing tasks of ISAC terminals. Specifically, we propose a novel three-tier integrated sensing, communication, and computing (ISCC) framework composed of one cloud server, multiple MEC servers, and multiple terminals, where the terminals can optionally offload sensing data to the MEC server or the cloud server. The offload message is sent via the ISAC waveform, whose echo is used for sensing. We jointly optimize the computation offloading and beamforming strategies to minimize the average execution latency while satisfying sensing requirements. In particular, we propose a low-complexity distributed algorithm to solve the problem. Firstly, we use the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) and derive the closed-form solution for offloading decision variables. Subsequently, we convert the beamforming optimization sub-problem into a weighted minimum mean-square error (WMMSE) problem and propose a fractional programming based algorithm. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed ISCC framework and distributed algorithm significantly reduce the execution latency and the energy consumption of sensing tasks at a lower computational complexity compared to existing schemes.

In this work, we present a new federation framework for UnionLabs, an innovative cloud-based resource-sharing infrastructure designed for next-generation (NextG) and Internet of Things (IoT) over-the-air (OTA) experiments. The framework aims to reduce the federation complexity for testbeds developers by automating tedious backend operations, thereby providing scalable federation and remote access to various wireless testbeds. We first describe the key components of the new federation framework, including the Systems Manager Integration Engine (SMIE), the Automated Script Generator (ASG), and the Database Context Manager (DCM). We then prototype and deploy the new Federation Plane on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) public cloud, demonstrating its effectiveness by federating two wireless testbeds: i) UB NeXT, a 5G-and-beyond (5G+) testbed at the University at Buffalo, and ii) UT IoT, an IoT testbed at the University of Utah. Through this work we aim to initiate a grassroots campaign to democratize access to wireless research testbeds with heterogeneous hardware resources and network environment, and accelerate the establishment of a mature, open experimental ecosystem for the wireless community. The API of the new Federation Plane will be released to the community after internal testing is completed.

The CNN has achieved excellent results in the automatic classification of medical images. In this study, we propose a novel deep residual 3D attention non-local network (NL-RAN) to classify CT images included COVID-19, common pneumonia, and normal to perform rapid and explainable COVID-19 diagnosis. We built a deep residual 3D attention non-local network that could achieve end-to-end training. The network is embedded with a nonlocal module to capture global information, while a 3D attention module is embedded to focus on the details of the lesion so that it can directly analyze the 3D lung CT and output the classification results. The output of the attention module can be used as a heat map to increase the interpretability of the model. 4079 3D CT scans were included in this study. Each scan had a unique label (novel coronavirus pneumonia, common pneumonia, and normal). The CT scans cohort was randomly split into a training set of 3263 scans, a validation set of 408 scans, and a testing set of 408 scans. And compare with existing mainstream classification methods, such as CovNet, CBAM, ResNet, etc. Simultaneously compare the visualization results with visualization methods such as CAM. Model performance was evaluated using the Area Under the ROC Curve(AUC), precision, and F1-score. The NL-RAN achieved the AUC of 0.9903, the precision of 0.9473, and the F1-score of 0.9462, surpass all the classification methods compared. The heat map output by the attention module is also clearer than the heat map output by CAM. Our experimental results indicate that our proposed method performs significantly better than existing methods. In addition, the first attention module outputs a heat map containing detailed outline information to increase the interpretability of the model. Our experiments indicate that the inference of our model is fast. It can provide real-time assistance with diagnosis.

Offloading services to UAV swarms for delay-sensitive tasks in Emergency UAV Networks (EUN) can greatly enhance rescue efficiency. Most task-offloading strategies assumed that UAVs were location-fixed and capable of handling all tasks. However, in complex disaster environments, UAV locations often change dynamically, and the heterogeneity of on-board resources presents a significant challenge in optimizing task scheduling in EUN to minimize latency. To address these problems, a Finite state machines-based Path-following Collaborative computation strategy (FPC) for emergency UAV swarms is proposed. First, an Extended Finite State Machine Space-time Graph (EFSMSG) model is constructed to accurately characterize on-board resources and state transitions while shielding the EUN dynamic characteristic. Based on the EFSMSG, a mathematical model is formulated for the FPC strategy to minimize task processing delay while facilitating computation during transmission. Finally, the Constraint Selection Adaptive Binary Particle Swarm Optimization (CSABPSO) algorithm is proposed for the solution. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed FPC strategy effectively reduces task processing delay, meeting the requirements of delay-sensitive tasks in emergency situations.

Vascular segmentation in medical imaging plays a crucial role in analysing morphological and functional assessments. Traditional methods, like the centerline Dice (clDice) loss, ensure topology preservation but falter in capturing geometric details, especially under translation and deformation. The combination of clDice with traditional Dice loss can lead to diameter imbalance, favoring larger vessels. Addressing these challenges, we introduce the centerline boundary Dice (cbDice) loss function, which harmonizes topological integrity and geometric nuances, ensuring consistent segmentation across various vessel sizes. cbDice enriches the clDice approach by including boundary-aware aspects, thereby improving geometric detail recognition. It matches the performance of the boundary difference over union (B-DoU) loss through a mask-distance-based approach, enhancing traslation sensitivity. Crucially, cbDice incorporates radius information from vascular skeletons, enabling uniform adaptation to vascular diameter changes and maintaining balance in branch growth and fracture impacts. Furthermore, we conducted a theoretical analysis of clDice variants (cl-X-Dice). We validated cbDice's efficacy on three diverse vascular segmentation datasets, encompassing both 2D and 3D, and binary and multi-class segmentation. Particularly, the method integrated with cbDice demonstrated outstanding performance on the MICCAI 2023 TopCoW Challenge dataset. Purpose: This study addresses the challenge of extended SPECT imaging duration under low-count conditions, as encountered in Lu-177 SPECT imaging, by developing a self-supervised learning approach to synthesize skipped SPECT projection views, thus shortening scan times in clinical settings. Methods: We employed a self-supervised coordinate-based learning technique, adapting the neural radiance field (NeRF) concept in computer vision to synthesize under-sampled SPECT projection views. For each single scan, we used self-supervised coordinate learning to estimate skipped SPECT projection views. The method was tested with various down-sampling factors (DFs=2, 4, 8) on both Lu-177 phantom SPECT/CT measurements and clinical SPECT/CT datasets, from 11 patients undergoing Lu-177 DOTATATE and 6 patients undergoing Lu-177 PSMA-617 radiopharmaceutical therapy. Results: For SPECT reconstructions, our method outperformed the use of linearly interpolated projections and partial projection views in relative contrast-to-noise-ratios (RCNR) averaged across different downsampling factors: 1) DOTATATE: 83% vs. 65% vs. 67% for lesions and 86% vs. 70% vs. 67% for kidney, 2) PSMA: 76% vs. 69% vs. 68% for lesions and 75% vs. 55% vs. 66% for organs, including kidneys, lacrimal glands, parotid glands, and submandibular glands. Conclusion: The proposed method enables reduction in acquisition time (by factors of 2, 4, or 8) while maintaining quantitative accuracy in clinical SPECT protocols by allowing for the collection of fewer projections. Importantly, the self-supervised nature of this NeRF-based approach eliminates the need for extensive training data, instead learning from each patient's projection data alone. The reduction in acquisition time is particularly relevant for imaging under low-count conditions and for protocols that require multiple-bed positions such as whole-body imaging.

The two primary types of Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) slides in histopathology are Formalin-Fixed Paraffin-Embedded (FFPE) and Fresh Frozen (FF). FFPE slides offer high quality histopathological images but require a labor-intensive acquisition process. In contrast, FF slides can be prepared quickly, but the image quality is relatively poor. Our task is to translate FF images into FFPE style, thereby improving the image quality for diagnostic purposes. In this paper, we propose Diffusion-FFPE, a method for FF-to-FFPE histopathological image translation using a pre-trained diffusion model. Specifically, we employ a one-step diffusion model as the generator and fine-tune it with LoRA adapters using adversarial learning objectives. To ensure that the model effectively captures both global structural information and local details, we propose a multi-scale feature fusion (MFF) module. This module utilizes two VAE encoders to extract features of varying image sizes and performs feature fusion before feeding them into the UNet. Furthermore, we utilize a pre-trained vision-language model for histopathology as the backbone for the discriminator to further improve performance We conducted FF-to-FFPE translation experiments on the TCGA-NSCLC datasets, and our method achieved better performance compared to other methods. Most of the existing wavelet image processing techniques are carried out in the form of single-scale reconstruction and multiple iterations. However, processing high-quality fMRI data presents problems such as mixed noise and excessive computation time. This project proposes the use of matrix operations by combining mixed noise elimination methods with wavelet analysis to replace traditional iterative algorithms. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) of the auditory cortex of a single subject is analyzed and compared to the wavelet domain signal processing technology based on repeated times and the world's most influential SPM8. Experiments show that this algorithm is the fastest in computing time, and its detection effect is comparable to the traditional iterative algorithm. However, this has a higher practical value for the processing of FMRI data. In addition, the wavelet analysis method proposed signal processing to speed up the calculation rate.

Precise segmentation of medical images is fundamental for extracting critical clinical information, which plays a pivotal role in enhancing the accuracy of diagnoses, formulating effective treatment plans, and improving patient outcomes. Although Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and non-local attention methods have achieved notable success in medical image segmentation, they either struggle to capture long-range spatial dependencies due to their reliance on local features, or face significant computational and feature integration challenges when attempting to address this issue with global attention mechanisms. To overcome existing limitations in medical image segmentation, we propose a novel architecture, Perspective+ Unet. This framework is characterized by three major innovations: (i) It introduces a dual-pathway strategy at the encoder stage that combines the outcomes of traditional and dilated convolutions. This not only maintains the local receptive field but also significantly expands it, enabling better comprehension of the global structure of images while retaining detail sensitivity. (ii) The framework incorporates an efficient non-local transformer block, named ENLTB, which utilizes kernel function approximation for effective long-range dependency capture with linear computational and spatial complexity. (iii) A Spatial Cross-Scale Integrator strategy is employed to merge global dependencies and local contextual cues across model stages, meticulously refining features from various levels to harmonize global and local information. Experimental results on the ACDC and Synapse datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed Perspective+ Unet. The code is available in the supplementary material.

Wi-Fi sensing leveraging plain-text beamforming feedback information (BFI) in multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) systems attracts increasing attention. However, due to the implicit relationship between BFI and the channel state information (CSI), quantifying the sensing capability of BFI poses a challenge in building efficient BFI-based sensing algorithms. In this letter, we first derive a mathematical model of BFI, characterizing its relationship with CSI explicitly, and then develop a closed-form expression of BFI for 2x2 MIMO systems. To enhance the efficiency of BFI-based sensing by selecting only the most informative features, we quantify the sensing capacity of BFI using the Cramer-Rao bound (CRB) and then propose an efficient CRB-based BFI feature selection algorithm. Simulation results verify that BFI and CSI exhibit comparable sensing capabilities and that the proposed algorithm halves the number of features, reducing 20% more parameters than baseline methods, at the cost of only slightly increasing positioning errors.

In this context, we propose a bitwise end-to-end design for polar coded IDEN systems, where the conventional encoding/decoding, modulation/demodulation, and energy harvesting (EH) modules are replaced by the neural networks (NNs). In this way, the entire system can be treated as an AutoEncoder (AE) and trained in an end-to-end manner. Hence achieving global optimization. Additionally, we improve the common NN-based belief propagation (BP) decoder by adding an extra hypernetwork, which generates the corresponding NN weights for the main network under different number of iterations, thus the adaptability of the receiver architecture can be further enhanced. Our numerical results demonstrate that our BP-based end-to-end design is superior to conventional BP-based counterparts in terms of both the BER and power transfer, but it is inferior to the successive cancellation list (SCL)-based conventional IDEN system, which may be due to the inherent performance gap between the BP and SCL decoders.

As the penetration of distributed energy resources (DER) and renewable energy sources (RES) increases, carbon footprint tracking requires more granular analysis results. Existing carbon footprint tracking methods focus on deterministic steady-state analysis where the high uncertainties of RES cannot be considered. Considering the deficiency of the existing deterministic method, this paper proposes two stochastic carbon footprint tracking methods to cope with the impact of RES uncertainty on load-side carbon footprint tracing. The first method introduces probabilistic analysis in the framework of carbon emissions flow (CEF) to provide a global reference for the spatial characteristic of the power system component carbon intensity distribution. Considering that the CEF network expands with the increasing penetration of DERs, the second method can effectively improve the computational efficiency over the first method while ensuring the computational accuracy on the large power systems. These proposed models are tested and compared in a synthetic 1004-bus test system in the case study to demonstrate the performance of the two proposed methods

Motor imagery electroencephalogram (EEG)-based brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) offer significant advantages for individuals with restricted limb mobility. However, challenges such as low signal-to-noise ratio and limited spatial resolution impede accurate feature extraction from EEG signals, thereby affecting the classification accuracy of different actions. To address these challenges, this study proposes an end-to-end dual-branch network (EEG-DBNet) that decodes the temporal and spectral sequences of EEG signals in parallel through two distinct network branches. Each branch comprises a local convolutional block and a global convolutional block. The local convolutional block transforms the source signal from the temporal-spatial domain to the temporal-spectral domain. By varying the number of filters and convolution kernel sizes, the local convolutional blocks in different branches adjust the length of their respective dimension sequences. Different types of pooling layers are then employed to emphasize the features of various dimension sequences, setting the stage for subsequent global feature extraction. The global convolution block splits and reconstructs the feature of the signal sequence processed by the local convolution block in the same branch and further extracts features through the dilated causal convolutional neural networks. Finally, the outputs from the two branches are concatenated, and signal classification is completed via a fully connected layer. Our proposed method achieves classification accuracies of 85.84% and 91.60% on the BCI Competition 4-2a and BCI Competition 4-2b datasets, respectively, surpassing existing state-of-the-art models. Integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) is pivotal for 6G communications and is boosted by the rapid development of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs). Using the channel state information (CSI) across multiple frequency bands, RIS-aided multi-band ISAC systems can potentially track users' positions with high precision. Though tracking with CSI is desirable as no communication overheads are incurred, it faces challenges due to the multi-modalities of CSI samples, irregular and asynchronous data traffic, and sparse labeled data for learning the tracking function. This paper proposes the X2Track framework, where we model the tracking function by a hierarchical architecture, jointly utilizing multi-modal CSI indicators across multiple bands, and optimize it in a cross-domain manner, tackling the sparsity of labeled data for the target deployment environment (namely, target domain) by adapting the knowledge learned from another environment (namely, source domain). Under X2Track, we design an efficient deep learning algorithm to minimize tracking errors, based on transformer neural networks and adversarial learning techniques. This paper discusses the problem of estimating a stochastic signal from nonlinear uncertain observations with time-correlated additive noise described by a first-order Markov process. Random deception attacks are assumed to be launched by an adversary, and both this phenomenon and the uncertainty in the observations are modelled by two sets of Bernoulli random variables. Under the assumption that the evolution model generating the signal to be estimated is unknown and only the mean and covariance functions of the processes involved in the observation equation are available, recursive algorithms based on linear approximations of the real observations are proposed for the least-squares filtering and fixed-point smoothing problems. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the developed estimation algorithms are verified by a numerical simulation example, where the impact of uncertain observation and deception attack probabilities on estimation accuracy is evaluated.

Product co-creation based on company-sponsored online community has come to be a paradigm of developing new products collaboratively with customers. In such a product co-creation campaign, the sponsoring company needs to interact intensively with active community members about the design scheme of the product. We call the collection of the rates of the company's response to active community members at all time in the co-creation campaign as a company response policy (CRP). This paper addresses the problem of finding a cost-effective CRP (the CRP problem). First, we introduce a novel community state evolutionary model and, thereby, establish an optimal control model for the CRP problem (the CRP model). Second, based on the optimality system for the CRP model, we present an iterative algorithm for solving the CRP model (the CRP algorithm). Thirdly, through extensive numerical experiments, we conclude that the CRP algorithm converges and the resulting CRP exhibits excellent cost benefit. Consequently, we recommend the resulting CRP to companies that embrace product co-creation. Next, we discuss how to implement the resulting CRP. Finally, we investigate the effect of some factors on the cost benefit of the resulting CRP. To our knowledge, this work is the first attempt to study value co-creation through optimal control theoretic approach.

Intelligent task-oriented semantic communications (SemComs) have witnessed great progress with the development of deep learning (DL). In this paper, we propose a semantic-aware hybrid automatic repeat request (SemHARQ) framework for the robust and efficient transmissions of semantic features. First, to improve the robustness and effectiveness of semantic coding, a multi-task semantic encoder is proposed. Meanwhile, a feature importance ranking (FIR) method is investigated to ensure the important features delivery under limited channel resources. Then, to accurately detect the possible transmission errors, a novel feature distortion evaluation (FDE) network is designed to identify the distortion level of each feature, based on which an efficient HARQ method is proposed. Specifically, the corrupted features are retransmitted, where the remaining channel resources are used for incremental transmissions. The system performance is evaluated under different channel conditions in multi-task scenarios in Internet of Vehicles. Extensive experiments show that the proposed framework outperforms state-of-the-art works by more than 20% in rank-1 accuracy for vehicle re-identification, and 10% in vehicle color classification accuracy in the low signal-to-noise ratio regime.

Ultrasound imaging is crucial for evaluating organ morphology and function, yet depth adjustment can degrade image quality and field-of-view, presenting a depth-dependent dilemma. Traditional interpolation-based zoom-in techniques often sacrifice detail and introduce artifacts. Motivated by the potential of arbitrary-scale super-resolution to naturally address these inherent challenges, we present the Residual Dense Swin Transformer Network (RDSTN), designed to capture the non-local characteristics and long-range dependencies intrinsic to ultrasound images. It comprises a linear embedding module for feature enhancement, an encoder with shifted-window attention for modeling non-locality, and an MLP decoder for continuous detail reconstruction. This strategy streamlines balancing image quality and field-of-view, which offers superior textures over traditional methods. Experimentally, RDSTN outperforms existing approaches while requiring fewer parameters. In conclusion, RDSTN shows promising potential for ultrasound image enhancement by overcoming the limitations of conventional interpolation-based methods and achieving depth-independent imaging.

Deep learning-based denoiser has been the focus of recent development on image denoising. In the past few years, there has been increasing interest in developing self-supervised denoising networks that only require noisy images, without the need for clean ground truth for training. However, a performance gap remains between current self-supervised methods and their supervised counterparts. Additionally, these methods commonly depend on assumptions about noise characteristics, thereby constraining their applicability in real-world scenarios. Inspired by the properties of the Frobenius norm expansion, we discover that incorporating a trace term reduces the optimization goal disparity between self-supervised and supervised methods, thereby enhancing the performance of self-supervised learning. To exploit this insight, we propose a trace-constraint loss function and design the low-trace adaptation Noise2Noise (LoTA-N2N) model that bridges the gap between self-supervised and supervised learning. Furthermore, we have discovered that several existing self-supervised denoising frameworks naturally fall within the proposed trace-constraint loss as subcases. Extensive experiments conducted on natural and confocal image datasets indicate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance within the realm of zero-shot self-supervised image denoising approaches, without relying on any assumptions regarding the noise.

Integrated data and energy transfer (IDET) has been of fundamental importance for providing both wireless data transfer (WDT) and wireless energy transfer (WET) services towards low-power devices. Fluid antenna (FA) is capable of exploiting the huge spatial diversity of the wireless channel to enhance the receive signal strength, which is more suitable for the tiny-size low-power devices having the IDET requirements. In this letter, a multiuser FA assisted IDET system is studied and the weighted energy harvesting power at energy receivers (ERs) is maximized by jointly optimizing the port selection and transmit beamforming design under imperfect channel state information (CSI), while the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) constraint for each data receiver (DR) is satisfied. An efficient algorithm is proposed to obtain the suboptimal solutions for the non-convex problem. Simulation results evaluate the performance of the FA-IDET system, while also demonstrate that FA outperforms the multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) counterpart in terms of the IDET performance, as long as the port number is large enough.

Reconstructing visual stimulus images is a significant task in neural decoding, and up to now, most studies consider the functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) as the signal source. However, the fMRI-based image reconstruction methods are difficult to widely applied because of the complexity and high cost of the acquisition equipments. Considering the advantages of low cost and easy portability of the electroencephalogram (EEG) acquisition equipments, we propose a novel image reconstruction method based on EEG signals in this paper. Firstly, to satisfy the high recognizability of visual stimulus images in fast switching manner, we build a visual stimuli image dataset, and obtain the EEG dataset by a corresponding EEG signals collection experiment. Secondly, the deep visual representation model(DVRM) consisting of a primary encoder and a subordinate decoder is proposed to reconstruct visual stimuli. The encoder is designed based on the residual-in-residual dense blocks to learn the distribution characteristics between EEG signals and visual stimulus images, while the decoder is designed based on the deep neural network to reconstruct the visual stimulus image from the learned deep visual representation. The DVRM can fit the deep and multiview visual features of human natural state and make the reconstructed images more precise. Finally, we evaluate the DVRM in the quality of the generated images on our EEG dataset. The results show that the DVRM have good performance in the task of learning deep visual representation from EEG signals and generating reconstructed images that are realistic and highly resemble the original images.

The assessment of safety performance plays a pivotal role in the development and deployment of connected and automated vehicles (CAVs). A common approach involves designing testing scenarios based on prior knowledge of CAVs (e.g., surrogate models), conducting tests in these scenarios, and subsequently evaluating CAVs' safety performances. However, substantial differences between CAVs and the prior knowledge can significantly diminish the evaluation efficiency. In response to this issue, existing studies predominantly concentrate on the adaptive design of testing scenarios during the CAV testing process. Yet, these methods have limitations in their applicability to high-dimensional scenarios. To overcome this challenge, we develop an adaptive testing environment that bolsters evaluation robustness by incorporating multiple surrogate models and optimizing the combination coefficients of these surrogate models to enhance evaluation efficiency. We formulate the optimization problem as a regression task utilizing quadratic programming. To efficiently obtain the regression target via reinforcement learning, we propose the dense reinforcement learning method and devise a new adaptive policy with high sample efficiency. Essentially, our approach centers on learning the values of critical scenes displaying substantial surrogate-to-real gaps. The effectiveness of our method is validated in high-dimensional overtaking scenarios, demonstrating that our approach achieves notable evaluation efficiency.

We explore a class of stochastic multiplayer games where each player in the game aims to optimize its objective under uncertainty and adheres to some expectation constraints. The study employs an offline learning paradigm, leveraging a pre-existing dataset containing auxiliary features. While prior research in deterministic and stochastic multiplayer games primarily explored vector-valued decisions, this work departs by considering function-valued decisions that incorporate auxiliary features as input. We leverage the law of large deviations and degree theory to establish the almost sure convergence of the offline learning solution to the true solution as the number of data samples increases. Testing and evaluating the safety performance of autonomous vehicles (AVs) is essential before the large-scale deployment. Practically, the number of testing scenarios permissible for a specific AV is severely limited by tight constraints on testing budgets and time. With the restrictions imposed by strictly restricted numbers of tests, existing testing methods often lead to significant uncertainty or difficulty to quantifying evaluation results. In this paper, we formulate this problem for the first time the "few-shot testing" (FST) problem and propose a systematic framework to address this challenge. To alleviate the considerable uncertainty inherent in a small testing scenario set, we frame the FST problem as an optimization problem and search for the testing scenario set based on neighborhood coverage and similarity. Specifically, under the guidance of better generalization ability of the testing scenario set on AVs, we dynamically adjust this set and the contribution of each testing scenario to the evaluation result based on coverage, leveraging the prior information of surrogate models (SMs). With certain hypotheses on SMs, a theoretical upper bound of evaluation error is established to verify the sufficiency of evaluation accuracy within the given limited number of tests. The experiment results on cut-in scenarios demonstrate a notable reduction in evaluation error and variance of our method compared to conventional testing methods, especially for situations with a strict limit on the number of scenarios.

In this study, we address multi-robot localization issues, with a specific focus on cooperative localization and observability analysis of relative pose estimation. Cooperative localization involves enhancing each robot's information through a communication network and message passing. If odometry data from a target robot can be transmitted to the ego robot, observability of their relative pose estimation can be achieved through range-only or bearing-only measurements, provided both robots have non-zero linear velocities. In cases where odometry data from a target robot are not directly transmitted but estimated by the ego robot, both range and bearing measurements are necessary to ensure observability of relative pose estimation. For ROS/Gazebo simulations, we explore four sensing and communication structures. We compare extended Kalman filtering (EKF) and pose graph optimization (PGO) estimation using different robust loss functions (filtering and smoothing with varying batch sizes of sliding windows) in terms of estimation accuracy. In hardware experiments, two Turtlebot3 equipped with UWB modules are used for real-world inter-robot relative pose estimation, applying both EKF and PGO and comparing their performance.

The safety of autonomous driving systems, particularly self-driving vehicles, remains of paramount concern. These systems exhibit affine nonlinear dynamics and face the challenge of executing predefined control tasks while adhering to state and input constraints to mitigate risks. However, achieving safety control within the framework of control input constraints, such as collision avoidance and maintaining system states within secure boundaries, presents challenges due to limited options. In this study, we introduce a novel approach to address safety concerns by transforming safety conditions into control constraints with a relative degree of 1. This transformation is facilitated through the design of control barrier functions, enabling the creation of a safety control system for affine nonlinear networks. Subsequently, we formulate a robust control strategy that incorporates safety protocols and conduct a comprehensive analysis of its stability and reliability. To illustrate the effectiveness of our approach, we apply it to a specific problem involving adaptive cruise control. Through simulations, we validate the efficiency of our model in ensuring safety without compromising control performance. Our approach signifies significant progress in the field, providing a practical solution to enhance safety for autonomous driving systems operating within the context of affine nonlinear dynamics.

An important development direction in the Single-Image Super-Resolution (SISR) algorithms is to improve the efficiency of the algorithms. Recently, efficient Super-Resolution (SR) research focuses on reducing model complexity and improving efficiency through improved deep small kernel convolution, leading to a small receptive field. The large receptive field obtained by large kernel convolution can significantly improve image quality, but the computational cost is too high. To improve the reconstruction details of efficient super-resolution reconstruction, we propose a Symmetric Visual Attention Network (SVAN) by applying large receptive fields. The SVAN decomposes a large kernel convolution into three different combinations of convolution operations and combines them with an attention mechanism to form a Symmetric Large Kernel Attention Block (SLKAB), which forms a symmetric attention block with a bottleneck structure by the size of the receptive field in the convolution combination to extract depth features effectively as the basic component of the SVAN. Our network gets a large receptive field while minimizing the number of parameters and improving the perceptual ability of the model. The experimental results show that the proposed SVAN can obtain high-quality super-resolution reconstruction results using only about 30% of the parameters of existing SOTA methods.

Environment shifts and conflicts present significant challenges for learning-based sound event localization and detection (SELD) methods. SELD systems, when trained in particular acoustic settings, often show restricted generalization capabilities for diverse acoustic environments. Furthermore, obtaining annotated samples for spatial sound events is notably costly. Deploying a SELD system in a new environment requires extensive time for re-training and fine-tuning. To overcome these challenges, we propose environment-adaptive Meta-SELD, designed for efficient adaptation to new environments using minimal data. Our method specifically utilizes computationally synthesized spatial data and employs Model-Agnostic Meta-Learning (MAML) on a pre-trained, environment-independent model. The method then utilizes fast adaptation to unseen real-world environments using limited samples from the respective environments. Inspired by the Learning-to-Forget approach, we introduce the concept of selective memory as a strategy for resolving conflicts across environments. This approach involves selectively memorizing target-environment-relevant information and adapting to the new environments through the selective attenuation of model parameters. In addition, we introduce environment representations to characterize different acoustic settings, enhancing the adaptability of our attenuation approach to various environments. We evaluate our proposed method on the development set of the Sony-TAu Realistic Spatial Soundscapes 2023 (STARSS23) dataset and computationally synthesized scenes. Experimental results demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed method compared to conventional supervised learning methods, particularly in localization.

In this article, the state estimation problems with unknown process noise and measurement noise covariances for both linear and nonlinear systems are considered. By formulating the joint estimation of system state and noise parameters into an optimization problem, a novel adaptive Kalman filter method based on conjugate-computation variational inference, referred to as CVIAKF, is proposed to approximate the joint posterior probability density function of the latent variables. Unlike the existing adaptive Kalman filter methods utilizing variational inference in natural-parameter space, CVIAKF performs optimization in expectation-parameter space, resulting in a faster and simpler solution. Meanwhile, CVIAKF divides optimization objectives into conjugate and non-conjugate parts of nonlinear dynamical models, whereas conjugate computations and stochastic mirror-descent are applied, respectively. Remarkably, the reparameterization trick is used to reduce the variance of stochastic gradients of the non-conjugate parts. The effectiveness of CVIAKF is validated through synthetic and real-world datasets of maneuvering target tracking.

Multiuser beamforming is considered for partially-connected millimeter wave massive MIMO systems. Based on perfect channel state information (CSI), a low-complexity hybrid beamforming scheme that decouples the analog beamformer and the digital beamformer is proposed to maximize the sum-rate. The analog beamformer design is modeled as a phase alignment problem to harvest the array gain. Given the analog beamformer, the digital beamformer is designed by solving a weighted minimum mean squared error problem. Then based on imperfect CSI, an analog-only beamformer design scheme is proposed, where the design problem aims at maximizing the desired signal power on the current user and minimizing the power on the other users to mitigate the multiuser interference. The original problem is then transformed into a series of independent beam nulling subproblems, where an efficient iterative algorithm using the majorization-minimization framework is proposed to solve the subproblems. Simulation results show that, under perfect CSI, the proposed scheme achieves almost the same sum-rate performance as the existing schemes but with lower computational complexity; and under imperfect CSI, the proposed analog-only beamforming design scheme can effectively mitigate the multiuser interference.

This paper considers the problem of optimal sensor schedules for remote state estimation of discrete-event systems. In this setting, the sensors observe information from the plant and transmit the observable information to the receiver or estimator selectively. A transmission mechanism decides whether the observable information is transmitted or not, according to an information transmission policy, such that the receiver has sufficient information to satisfy the purpose of decision-making. To construct such a transmission mechanism, we first construct a non-deterministic dynamic observer that contains all feasible information transmission policies. Then, we show that the information updating rule of the dynamic observer indeed yields the state estimate from the receiver's point of view. Finally, we propose an approach to extract a specific information transmission policy, realized by a finite-state automaton, from the dynamic observer while satisfying some desired observation properties. To reduce transmission-related costs, we also require that the sensors transmit events as few as possible. A running example is provided to illustrate the proposed procedures.

Intelligent Reflecting Surface (IRS) utilizes low-cost, passive reflecting elements to enhance the passive beam gain, improve Wireless Energy Transfer (WET) efficiency, and enable its deployment for numerous Internet of Things (IoT) devices. However, the increasing number of IRS elements presents considerable channel estimation challenges. This is due to the lack of active Radio Frequency (RF) chains in an IRS, while pilot overhead becomes intolerable. To address this issue, we propose a Channel State Information (CSI)-free scheme that maximizes received energy in a specific direction and covers the entire space through phased beam rotation. Furthermore, we take into account the impact of an imperfect IRS and meticulously design the active precoder and IRS reflecting phase shift to mitigate its effects. Our proposed technique does not alter the existing IRS hardware architecture, allowing for easy implementation in the current system, and enabling access or removal of any Energy Receivers (ERs) without additional cost. Numerical results illustrate the efficacy of our CSI-free scheme in facilitating large-scale IRS without compromising performance due to excessive pilot overhead. Furthermore, our scheme outperforms the CSI-based counterpart in scenarios involving large-scale ERs, making it a promising solution in the era of IoT.

Moreover, integrated data and energy transfer (IDET) is able to provide both the wireless data transfer (WDT) and wireless energy transfer (WET) services towards low-power devices. In this paper, a FAMA assisted IDET system is studied, where $N$ access points (APs) provide dedicated IDET services towards $N$ user equipments (UEs). Each UE is equipped with a single fluid antenna. The performance of WDT and WET , i.e., the WDT outage probability, the WET outage probability, the reliable throughput and the average energy harvesting amount, are analysed theoretically by using time switching (TS) between WDT and WET. Numerical results validate our theoretical analysis, which reveals that the number of UEs and TS ratio should be optimized to achieve a trade-off between the WDT and WET performance. Single-pixel imaging can collect images at the wavelengths outside the reach of conventional focal plane array detectors. However, the limited image quality and lengthy computational times for iterative reconstruction still impede the practical application of single-pixel imaging. Recently, deep learning has been introduced into single-pixel imaging, which has attracted a lot of attention due to its exceptional reconstruction quality, fast reconstruction speed, and the potential to complete advanced sensing tasks without reconstructing images. Here, this advance is discussed and some opinions are offered. Firstly, based on the fundamental principles of single-pixel imaging and deep learning, the principles and algorithms of single-pixel imaging based on deep learning are described and analyzed. Subsequently, the implementation technologies of single-pixel imaging based on deep learning are reviewed. They are divided into super-resolution single-pixel imaging, single-pixel imaging through scattering media, photon-level single-pixel imaging, optical encryption based on single-pixel imaging, color single-pixel imaging, and image-free sensing according to diverse application fields. Finally, major challenges and corresponding feasible approaches are discussed, as well as more possible applications in the future.

In this paper, we propose a green beamforming design for the integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system, using beam-matching error to assess radar performance. The beam-matching error metric, which considers the mean square error between the desired and designed beam patterns, provides a more practical evaluation approach. To tackle the non-convex challenge inherent in beamforming design, we apply semidefinite relaxation (SDR) to address the rank-one relaxation issue, followed by the iterative rank minimization algorithm (IRM) for rank-one recovery. The simulation results showcase the effectiveness of our proposed optimal beamforming design, emphasizing the exceptional performance of the radar component in sensing tasks.

This paper proposes a novel non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA)-assisted orthogonal time-frequency space (OTFS)-integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) network, which uses unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) as air base stations to support multiple users. By employing ISAC, the UAV extracts position and velocity information from the user's echo signals, and non-orthogonal power allocation is conducted to achieve a superior achievable rate. A 3D motion prediction topology is used to guide the NOMA transmission for multiple users, and a robust power allocation solution is proposed under perfect and imperfect channel estimation for Maxi-min Fairness (MMF) and Maximum sum-Rate (SR) problems. Simulation results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed NOMA-assisted OTFS-ISAC system over other systems in terms of achievable rate under both perfect and imperfect channel conditions with the aid of 3D motion prediction topology.

This paper presents a reconfigurable intelligent sensing surface (RISS) that combines passive and active elements to achieve simultaneous reflection and direction of arrival (DOA) estimation tasks. By utilizing DOA information from the RISS instead of conventional channel estimation, the pilot overhead is reduced and the RISS becomes independent of the hybrid access point (HAP), enabling efficient operation. Specifically, the RISS autonomously estimates the DOA of uplink signals from single-antenna users and reflects them using the HAP's slowly varying DOA information. During downlink transmission, it updates the HAP's DOA information and designs the reflection phase of energy signals based on the latest user DOA information. The paper includes a comprehensive performance analysis, covering system design, protocol details, receiving performance, and RISS deployment suggestions. We derive a closed-form expression to analyze system performance under DOA errors, and calculate the statistical distribution of user received energy using the moment-matching technique. We provide a recommended transmit power to meet a specified outage probability and energy threshold. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed system outperforms the conventional counterpart by 2.3 dB and 4.7 dB for Rician factors $κ_h=κ_G=1$ and $κ_h=κ_G=10$, respectively.

Positioning is an essential service for various applications and is expected to be integrated with existing communication infrastructures in 5G and 6G. Though current Wi-Fi and cellular base stations (BSs) can be used to support this integration, the resulting precision is unsatisfactory due to the lack of precise control of the wireless signals. Recently, BSs adopting reconfigurable holographic surfaces (RHSs) have been advocated for positioning as RHSs' large number of antenna elements enable generation of arbitrary and highly-focused signal beam patterns. However, existing designs face two major challenges: i) RHSs only have limited operating bandwidth, and ii) the positioning methods cannot adapt to the diverse environments encountered in practice. To overcome these challenges, we present HoloFed, a system providing high-precision environment-adaptive user positioning services by exploiting multi-band(MB)-RHS and federated learning (FL). For improving the positioning performance, a lower bound on the error variance is obtained and utilized for guiding MB-RHS's digital and analog beamforming design. For better adaptability while preserving privacy, an FL framework is proposed for users to collaboratively train a position estimator, where we exploit the transfer learning technique to handle the lack of position labels of the users. Moreover, a scheduling algorithm for the BS to select which users train the position estimator is designed, jointly considering the convergence and efficiency of FL. Our simulation results confirm that HoloFed achieves a 57% lower positioning error variance compared to a beam-scanning baseline and can effectively adapt to diverse environments.

We present VisionFM, a foundation model pre-trained with 3.4 million ophthalmic images from 560,457 individuals, covering a broad range of ophthalmic diseases, modalities, imaging devices, and demography. After pre-training, VisionFM provides a foundation to foster multiple ophthalmic artificial intelligence (AI) applications, such as disease screening and diagnosis, disease prognosis, subclassification of disease phenotype, and systemic biomarker and disease prediction, with each application enhanced with expert-level intelligence and accuracy. The generalist intelligence of VisionFM outperformed ophthalmologists with basic and intermediate levels in jointly diagnosing 12 common ophthalmic diseases. Evaluated on a new large-scale ophthalmic disease diagnosis benchmark database, as well as a new large-scale segmentation and detection benchmark database, VisionFM outperformed strong baseline deep neural networks. The ophthalmic image representations learned by VisionFM exhibited noteworthy explainability, and demonstrated strong generalizability to new ophthalmic modalities, disease spectrum, and imaging devices. As a foundation model, VisionFM has a large capacity to learn from diverse ophthalmic imaging data and disparate datasets. To be commensurate with this capacity, in addition to the real data used for pre-training, we also generated and leveraged synthetic ophthalmic imaging data. Experimental results revealed that synthetic data that passed visual Turing tests, can also enhance the representation learning capability of VisionFM, leading to substantial performance gains on downstream ophthalmic AI tasks. Beyond the ophthalmic AI applications developed, validated, and demonstrated in this work, substantial further applications can be achieved in an efficient and cost-effective manner using VisionFM as the foundation.

Deformable image registration (DIR) is an active research topic in biomedical imaging. There is a growing interest in developing DIR methods based on deep learning (DL). A traditional DL approach to DIR is based on training a convolutional neural network (CNN) to estimate the registration field between two input images. While conceptually simple, this approach comes with a limitation that it exclusively relies on a pre-trained CNN without explicitly enforcing fidelity between the registered image and the reference. We present plug-and-play image registration network (PIRATE) as a new DIR method that addresses this issue by integrating an explicit data-fidelity penalty and a CNN prior. PIRATE pre-trains a CNN denoiser on the registration field and "plugs" it into an iterative method as a regularizer. We additionally present PIRATE+ that fine-tunes the CNN prior in PIRATE using deep equilibrium models (DEQ). PIRATE+ interprets the fixed-point iteration of PIRATE as a network with effectively infinite layers and then trains the resulting network end-to-end, enabling it to learn more task-specific information and boosting its performance. Our numerical results on OASIS and CANDI datasets show that our methods achieve state-of-the-art performance on DIR.

The Segmentation Anything Model (SAM) has gained significant attention for its robust generalization capabilities across diverse downstream tasks. However, the performance of SAM is noticeably diminished in medical images due to the substantial disparity between natural and medical image domain. In this paper, we present a zero-shot generalization model specifically designed for echocardiography analysis, called MediViSTA-SAM. Our key components include (i) the introduction of frame-level self-attention, which leverages cross-frame attention across each frame and its neighboring frames to guarantee consistent segmentation outcomes, and (ii) we utilize CNN backbone for feature embedding for the subsequent Transformer for efficient fine-tuning while keeping most of the SAM's parameter reusable. Experiments were conducted using zero-shot segmentation on multi-vendor in-house echocardiography datasets, indicating evaluation without prior exposure to the in-house dataset during training. MediViSTA-SAM effectively overcomes SAM's limitations and can be deployed across various hospital settings without the necessity of re-training models on their respective datasets. For learning-based sound event localization and detection (SELD) methods, different acoustic environments in the training and test sets may result in large performance differences in the validation and evaluation stages. Different environments, such as different sizes of rooms, different reverberation times, and different background noise, may be reasons for a learning-based system to fail. On the other hand, acquiring annotated spatial sound event samples, which include onset and offset time stamps, class types of sound events, and direction-of-arrival (DOA) of sound sources is very expensive. In addition, deploying a SELD system in a new environment often poses challenges due to time-consuming training and fine-tuning processes. To address these issues, we propose Meta-SELD, which applies meta-learning methods to achieve fast adaptation to new environments. More specifically, based on Model Agnostic Meta-Learning (MAML), the proposed Meta-SELD aims to find good meta-initialized parameters to adapt to new environments with only a small number of samples and parameter updating iterations. We can then quickly adapt the meta-trained SELD model to unseen environments. Our experiments compare fine-tuning methods from pre-trained SELD models with our Meta-SELD on the Sony-TAU Realistic Spatial Soundscapes 2023 (STARSSS23) dataset. The evaluation results demonstrate the effectiveness of Meta-SELD when adapting to new environments.

Uplink rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA) requires optimization of decoding order and power allocation, while decoding order is a discrete variable, and it is very complex to find the optimal decoding order if the number of users is large enough. This letter proposes a low-complexity user pairing-based resource allocation algorithm with the objective of minimizing the maximum latency. Closed-form expressions for power and bandwidth allocation for a given latency are first derived. Then a bisection method is used to determine the minimum latency and optimal resource allocation. Finally, the proposed algorithm is compared with unpaired RSMA using an exhaustive method to obtain the optimal decoding order, unpaired RSMA using a suboptimal decoding order, paired non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and unpaired NOMA. The results show that our proposed algorithm outperforms NOMA and achieves similar performance to unpaired RSMA. In addition, the complexity of the proposed algorithm is significantly reduced.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a widely used radiological modality renowned for its radiation-free, comprehensive insights into the human body, facilitating medical diagnoses. However, the drawback of prolonged scan times hinders its accessibility. The k-space undersampling offers a solution, yet the resultant artifacts necessitate meticulous removal during image reconstruction. Although Deep Learning (DL) has proven effective for fast MRI image reconstruction, its broader applicability across various imaging scenarios has been constrained. Challenges include the high cost and privacy restrictions associated with acquiring large-scale, diverse training data, coupled with the inherent difficulty of addressing mismatches between training and target data in existing DL methodologies. Here, we present a novel Physics-Informed Synthetic data learning framework for Fast MRI, called PISF. PISF marks a breakthrough by enabling generalized DL for multi-scenario MRI reconstruction through a single trained model. Our approach separates the reconstruction of a 2D image into many 1D basic problems, commencing with 1D data synthesis to facilitate generalization. We demonstrate that training DL models on synthetic data, coupled with enhanced learning techniques, yields in vivo MRI reconstructions comparable to or surpassing those of models trained on matched realistic datasets, reducing the reliance on real-world MRI data by up to 96%. Additionally, PISF exhibits remarkable generalizability across multiple vendors and imaging centers. Its adaptability to diverse patient populations has been validated through evaluations by ten experienced medical professionals. PISF presents a feasible and cost-effective way to significantly boost the widespread adoption of DL in various fast MRI applications.

This paper studies optimization problems over multi-agent systems, in which all agents cooperatively minimize a global objective function expressed as a sum of local cost functions. Each agent in the systems uses only local computation and communication in the overall process without leaking their private information. Based on the Barzilai-Borwein (BB) method and multi-consensus inner loops, a distributed algorithm with the availability of larger stepsizes and accelerated convergence, namely ADBB, is proposed. Moreover, owing to employing only row-stochastic weight matrices, ADBB can resolve the optimization problems over unbalanced directed networks without requiring the knowledge of neighbors' out-degree for each agent. Via establishing contraction relationships between the consensus error, the optimality gap, and the gradient tracking error, ADBB is theoretically proved to converge linearly to the globally optimal solution. A real-world data set is used in simulations to validate the correctness of the theoretical analysis.
