This paper considers a multi-functional orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system with integrated sensing, communication, and powering (ISCAP), in which a multi-antenna base station (BS) transmits OFDM signals to simultaneously deliver information to multiple information receivers (IRs), provide energy supply to multiple energy receivers (ERs), and sense potential targets based on the echo signals. To facilitate ISCAP, the BS employs the joint transmit beamforming design by sending dedicated sensing/energy beams jointly with information beams. Furthermore, we consider the beam scanning for sensing, in which the joint beams scan in different directions over time to sense potential targets. In order to ensure the sensing beam scanning performance and meet the communication and powering requirements, it is essential to properly schedule IRs and ERs and design the resource allocation over time, frequency, and space. More specifically, we optimize the joint transmit beamforming over multiple OFDM symbols and subcarriers, with the objective of minimizing the average beampattern matching error of beam scanning for sensing, subject to the constraints on the average communication rates at IRs and the average harvested power at ERs. We find converged high-quality solutions to the formulated problem by proposing efficient iterative algorithms based on advanced optimization techniques. We also develop various heuristic designs based on the principles of zero-forcing (ZF) beamforming, round-robin user scheduling, and time switching, respectively. Numerical results show that our proposed algorithms adaptively generate information and sensing/energy beams at each time-frequency slot to match the scheduled IRs/ERs with the desired scanning beam, significantly outperforming the heuristic designs.

Previous works have shown that reducing parameter overhead and computations for transformer-based single image super-resolution (SISR) models (e.g., SwinIR) usually leads to a reduction of performance. In this paper, we present GRFormer, an efficient and lightweight method, which not only reduces the parameter overhead and computations, but also greatly improves performance. The core of GRFormer is Grouped Residual Self-Attention (GRSA), which is specifically oriented towards two fundamental components. Firstly, it introduces a novel grouped residual layer (GRL) to replace the Query, Key, Value (QKV) linear layer in self-attention, aimed at efficiently reducing parameter overhead, computations, and performance loss at the same time. Secondly, it integrates a compact Exponential-Space Relative Position Bias (ES-RPB) as a substitute for the original relative position bias to improve the ability to represent position information while further minimizing the parameter count. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that GRFormer outperforms state-of-the-art transformer-based methods for $\times$2, $\times$3 and $\times$4 SISR tasks, notably outperforming SOTA by a maximum PSNR of 0.23dB when trained on the DIV2K dataset, while reducing the number of parameter and MACs by about \textbf{60\%} and \textbf{49\% } in only self-attention module respectively. We hope that our simple and effective method that can easily applied to SR models based on window-division self-attention can serve as a useful tool for further research in image super-resolution. Just noticeable distortion (JND), representing the threshold of distortion in an image that is minimally perceptible to the human visual system (HVS), is crucial for image compression algorithms to achieve a trade-off between transmission bit rate and image quality. However, traditional JND prediction methods only rely on pixel-level or sub-band level features, lacking the ability to capture the impact of image content on JND. To bridge this gap, we propose a Semantic-Guided JND (SG-JND) network to leverage semantic information for JND prediction. In particular, SG-JND consists of three essential modules: the image preprocessing module extracts semantic-level patches from images, the feature extraction module extracts multi-layer features by utilizing the cross-scale attention layers, and the JND prediction module regresses the extracted features into the final JND value. Experimental results show that SG-JND achieves the state-of-the-art performance on two publicly available JND datasets, which demonstrates the effectiveness of SG-JND and highlight the significance of incorporating semantic information in JND assessment.

This paper considers networked sensing in cellular network, where multiple base stations (BSs) first compress their received echo signals from multiple targets and then forward the quantized signals to the cloud via limited-capacity backhaul links, such that the cloud can leverage all useful echo signals to perform high-resolution localization. Under this setup, we manage to characterize the posterior Cramer-Rao Bound (PCRB) for localizing all the targets as a function of the transmit covariance matrix and the compression noise covariance matrix of each BS. Then, a PCRB minimization problem subject to the transmit power constraints and the backhaul capacity constraints is formulated to jointly design the BSs' transmission and compression strategies. We propose an efficient algorithm to solve this problem based on the alternating optimization technique. Specifically, it is shown that when either the transmit covariance matrices or the compression noise covariance matrices are fixed, the successive convex approximation technique can be leveraged to optimize the other type of covariance matrices locally. Numerical results are provided to verify the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm.

Due to circuit failures, defective elements that cannot adaptively adjust the phase shifts of their impinging signals in a desired manner may exist on an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS). Traditional way to find these defective IRS elements requires a thorough diagnosis of all the circuits belonging to a huge number of IRS elements, which is practically challenging. In this paper, we will devise a novel approach under which a transmitter sends known pilot signals and a receiver localizes all the defective IRS elements just based on its over-the-air measurements reflected from the IRS. The key lies in the fact that the over-the-air measurements at the receiver side are functions of the set of defective IRS elements. Based on this observation, we propose a bisection based method to localize all the defective IRS elements. Specifically, at each time slot, we properly control the desired phase shifts of all the IRS elements such that half of the considered regime that is not useful to localize the defective elements can be found based on the received signals and removed. Via numerical results, it is shown that our proposed bisection method can exploit the over-the-air measurements to localize all the defective IRS elements quickly and accurately.

To address this challenge, the distributed extensions of AMP (D-AMP, FD-AMP) and orthogonal/vector AMP (D-OAMP/D-VAMP) were proposed, but they still inherit the limitations of centralized algorithms. In this letter, we propose distributed memory AMP (D-MAMP) to overcome the IID matrix limitation of D-AMP/FD-AMP, as well as the high complexity and heavy communication cost of D-OAMP/D-VAMP. We introduce a matrix-by-vector variant of MAMP tailored for distributed computing. Leveraging this variant, D-MAMP enables each node to execute computations utilizing locally available observation vectors and transform matrices. Meanwhile, global summations of locally updated results are conducted through message interaction among nodes. For acyclic graphs, D-MAMP converges to the same mean square error performance as the centralized MAMP.

Low-complexity Bayes-optimal memory approximate message passing (MAMP) is an efficient signal estimation algorithm in compressed sensing and multicarrier modulation. However, achieving replica Bayes optimality with MAMP necessitates a large-scale right-unitarily invariant transformation, which is prohibitive in practical systems due to its high computational complexity and hardware costs. To solve this difficulty, this letter proposes a low-complexity interleaved block-sparse (IBS) transform, which consists of interleaved multiple low-dimensional transform matrices, aimed at reducing the hardware implementation scale while mitigating performance loss. Furthermore, an IBS cross-domain memory approximate message passing (IBS-CD-MAMP) estimator is developed, comprising a memory linear estimator in the IBS transform domain and a non-linear estimator in the source domain. Numerical results show that the IBS-CD-MAMP offers a reduced implementation scale and lower complexity with excellent performance in IBS-based compressed sensing and interleave frequency division multiplexing systems.

Holographic MIMO communications, enabled by large-scale antenna arrays with quasi-continuous apertures, is a potential technology for spectrum efficiency improvement. However, the increased antenna aperture size extends the range of the Fresnel region, leading to a hybrid near-far field communication mode. The users and scatterers randomly lie in near-field and far-field zones, and thus, conventional far-field-only and near-field-only channel estimation methods may not work. To tackle this challenge, we demonstrate the existence of the power diffusion (PD) effect, which leads to a mismatch between the hybrid-field channel and existing channel estimation methods. Specifically, in far-field and near-field transform domains, the power gain of one channel path may diffuse to other positions, thus generating fake paths. This renders the conventional techniques unable to detect those real paths. We propose a PD-aware orthogonal matching pursuit algorithm to eliminate the influence of the PD effect by identifying the PD range within which paths diffuse to other positions. PD-OMP fits a general case without prior knowledge of near-field and far-field path numbers and the user's location. The computational complexity of PD-OMP and the Cramer-Rao Lower Bound for the sparse-signal-recovery-based channel estimation are also derived. Simulation results show that PD-OMP outperforms state-of-the-art hybrid-field channel estimation methods.

In the next generation wireless communication system, transmission rates should continue to rise to support emerging scenarios, e.g., the immersive communications. From the perspective of communication system evolution, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology remains pivotal for enhancing transmission rates. However, current MIMO systems rely on inserting pilot signals to achieve accurate channel estimation. As the increase of transmit stream, the pilots consume a significant portion of transmission resources, severely reducing the spectral efficiency. In this correspondence, we propose a belief information based mechanism. By introducing a plug-and-play belief information module, existing single-antenna channel estimation networks could be seamlessly adapted to multi-antenna channel estimation and fully exploit the spatial correlation among multiple antennas. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can either improve 1 ~ 2 dB channel estimation performance or reduce 1/3 ~ 1/2 pilot overhead, particularly in bad channel conditions.

Automatically generating symbolic music-music scores tailored to specific human needs-can be highly beneficial for musicians and enthusiasts. Recent studies have shown promising results using extensive datasets and advanced transformer architectures. However, these state-of-the-art models generally offer only basic control over aspects like tempo and style for the entire composition, lacking the ability to manage finer details, such as control at the level of individual bars. While fine-tuning a pre-trained symbolic music generation model might seem like a straightforward method for achieving this finer control, our research indicates challenges in this approach. The model often fails to respond adequately to new, fine-grained bar-level control signals. To address this, we propose two innovative solutions. First, we introduce a pre-training task designed to link control signals directly with corresponding musical tokens, which helps in achieving a more effective initialization for subsequent fine-tuning. Second, we implement a novel counterfactual loss that promotes better alignment between the generated music and the control prompts. Together, these techniques significantly enhance our ability to control music generation at the bar level, showing a 13.06\% improvement over conventional methods. Our subjective evaluations also confirm that this enhanced control does not compromise the musical quality of the original pre-trained generative model.

Multi-modal MRI offers valuable complementary information for diagnosis and treatment; however, its utility is limited by prolonged scanning times. To accelerate the acquisition process, a practical approach is to reconstruct images of the target modality, which requires longer scanning times, from under-sampled k-space data using the fully-sampled reference modality with shorter scanning times as guidance. The primary challenge of this task is comprehensively and efficiently integrating complementary information from different modalities to achieve high-quality reconstruction. Existing methods struggle with this: 1) convolution-based models fail to capture long-range dependencies; 2) transformer-based models, while excelling in global feature modeling, struggle with quadratic computational complexity. To address this, we propose MMR-Mamba, a novel framework that thoroughly and efficiently integrates multi-modal features for MRI reconstruction, leveraging Mamba's capability to capture long-range dependencies with linear computational complexity while exploiting global properties of the Fourier domain. Specifically, we first design a Target modality-guided Cross Mamba (TCM) module in the spatial domain, which maximally restores the target modality information by selectively incorporating relevant information from the reference modality. Then, we introduce a Selective Frequency Fusion (SFF) module to efficiently integrate global information in the Fourier domain and recover high-frequency signals for the reconstruction of structural details. Furthermore, we devise an Adaptive Spatial-Frequency Fusion (ASFF) module, which mutually enhances the spatial and frequency domains by supplementing less informative channels from one domain with corresponding channels from the other.

However, the decision logic behind machine learning algorithms and their outputs cannot be explained, as most operate in black-box models. Therefore, to increase the accuracy of diagnosing dementia through MRIs, a convolution neural network has been developed and trained using an open-source database of 6400 MRI scans divided into 4 dementia classes. The model, which attained a 98 percent validation accuracy, was shown to be well fit and able to generalize to new data. Furthermore, to aid in the visualization of the model output, an explainable AI algorithm was developed by visualizing the outputs of individual filters in each convolution layer, which highlighted regions of interest in the scan. These outputs do a great job of identifying the image features that contribute most to the model classification, thus allowing users to visualize and understand the results. Altogether, this combination of the convolution neural network and explainable AI algorithm creates a system that can be used in the medical field to not only aid in the proper classification of dementia but also allow everyone involved to visualize and understand the results.

Orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) is a promising modulation scheme for wireless communication in high-mobility scenarios. Recently, a reservoir computing (RC) based approach has been introduced for online subframe-based symbol detection in the OTFS system, where only the limited over-the-air (OTA) pilot symbols are utilized for training. However, the previous RC-based approach does not design the RC architecture based on the properties of the OTFS system to fully unlock the potential of RC. This paper introduces a novel two-dimensional RC (2D-RC) approach for online symbol detection on a subframe basis in the OTFS system. The 2D-RC is designed to have a two-dimensional (2D) filtering structure to equalize the 2D circular channel effect in the delay-Doppler (DD) domain of the OTFS system. With the introduced architecture, the 2D-RC can operate in the DD domain with only a single neural network, unlike our previous work which requires multiple RCs to track channel variations in the time domain. Experimental results demonstrate the advantages of the 2D-RC approach over the previous RC-based approach and the compared model-based methods across different modulation orders.

In the world of stochastic control, especially in economics and engineering, Markov Decision Processes (MDPs) can effectively model various stochastic decision processes, from asset management to transportation optimization. These underlying MDPs, upon closer examination, often reveal a specifically constrained causal structure concerning the transition and reward dynamics. By exploiting this structure, we can obtain a reduction in the causal representation of the problem setting, allowing us to solve of the optimal value function more efficiently. This work defines an MDP framework, the \texttt{SD-MDP}, where we disentangle the causal structure of MDPs' transition and reward dynamics, providing distinct partitions on the temporal causal graph. With this stochastic reduction, the \texttt{SD-MDP} reflects a general class of resource allocation problems. This disentanglement further enables us to derive theoretical guarantees on the estimation error of the value function under an optimal policy by allowing independent value estimation from Monte Carlo sampling. Subsequently, by integrating this estimator into well-known Monte Carlo planning algorithms, such as Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS), we derive bounds on the simple regret of the algorithm. Finally, we quantify the policy improvement of MCTS under the \texttt{SD-MDP} framework by demonstrating that the MCTS planning algorithm achieves higher expected reward (lower costs) under a constant simulation budget, on a tangible economic example based on maritime refuelling.

Recently, the Diffusion Probabilistic Model (DPM)-based methods have achieved substantial success in the field of medical image segmentation. However, most of these methods fail to enable the diffusion model to learn edge features and non-edge features effectively and to inject them efficiently into the diffusion backbone. Additionally, the domain gap between the images features and the diffusion model features poses a great challenge to prostate segmentation. In this paper, we proposed CriDiff, a two-stage feature injecting framework with a Crisscross Injection Strategy (CIS) and a Generative Pre-train (GP) approach for prostate segmentation. The CIS maximizes the use of multi-level features by efficiently harnessing the complementarity of high and low-level features. To effectively learn multi-level of edge features and non-edge features, we proposed two parallel conditioners in the CIS: the Boundary Enhance Conditioner (BEC) and the Core Enhance Conditioner (CEC), which discriminatively model the image edge regions and non-edge regions, respectively. Moreover, the GP approach eases the inconsistency between the images features and the diffusion model without adding additional parameters. Extensive experiments on four benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method and achieve state-of-the-art performance on four evaluation metrics.

However, hyperspectral images (HSIs), which are rich in spectral information, have not seen much application of FMs, with existing methods often restricted to specific tasks and lacking generality. To fill this gap, we introduce HyperSIGMA, a vision transformer-based foundation model for HSI interpretation, scalable to over a billion parameters. To tackle the spectral and spatial redundancy challenges in HSIs, we introduce a novel sparse sampling attention (SSA) mechanism, which effectively promotes the learning of diverse contextual features and serves as the basic block of HyperSIGMA. HyperSIGMA integrates spatial and spectral features using a specially designed spectral enhancement module. In addition, we construct a large-scale hyperspectral dataset, HyperGlobal-450K, for pre-training, which contains about 450K hyperspectral images, significantly surpassing existing datasets in scale. Extensive experiments on various high-level and low-level HSI tasks demonstrate HyperSIGMA's versatility and superior representational capability compared to current state-of-the-art methods. Moreover, HyperSIGMA shows significant advantages in scalability, robustness, cross-modal transferring capability, and real-world applicability.

We introduce Seed-TTS, a family of large-scale autoregressive text-to-speech (TTS) models capable of generating speech that is virtually indistinguishable from human speech. Seed-TTS serves as a foundation model for speech generation and excels in speech in-context learning, achieving performance in speaker similarity and naturalness that matches ground truth human speech in both objective and subjective evaluations. With fine-tuning, we achieve even higher subjective scores across these metrics. Seed-TTS offers superior controllability over various speech attributes such as emotion and is capable of generating highly expressive and diverse speech for speakers in the wild. Furthermore, we propose a self-distillation method for speech factorization, as well as a reinforcement learning approach to enhance model robustness, speaker similarity, and controllability. We additionally present a non-autoregressive (NAR) variant of the Seed-TTS model, named $\text{Seed-TTS}_\text{DiT}$, which utilizes a fully diffusion-based architecture. Unlike previous NAR-based TTS systems, $\text{Seed-TTS}_\text{DiT}$ does not depend on pre-estimated phoneme durations and performs speech generation through end-to-end processing. We demonstrate that this variant achieves comparable performance to the language model-based variant and showcase its effectiveness in speech editing. Point cloud compression has garnered significant interest in computer vision. However, existing algorithms primarily cater to human vision, while most point cloud data is utilized for machine vision tasks. To address this, we propose a point cloud compression framework that simultaneously handles both human and machine vision tasks. Our framework learns a scalable bit-stream, using only subsets for different machine vision tasks to save bit-rate, while employing the entire bit-stream for human vision tasks. Building on mainstream octree-based frameworks like VoxelContext-Net, OctAttention, and G-PCC, we introduce a new octree depth-level predictor. This predictor adaptively determines the optimal depth level for each octree constructed from a point cloud, controlling the bit-rate for machine vision tasks. For simpler tasks (\textit{e.g.}, classification) or objects/scenarios, we use fewer depth levels with fewer bits, saving bit-rate. Conversely, for more complex tasks (\textit{e.g}., segmentation) or objects/scenarios, we use deeper depth levels with more bits to enhance performance. Experimental results on various datasets (\textit{e.g}., ModelNet10, ModelNet40, ShapeNet, ScanNet, and KITTI) show that our point cloud compression approach improves performance for machine vision tasks without compromising human vision quality.

Inspired by providing reliable communications for high-mobility scenarios, in this letter, we investigate the channel estimation and signal detection in integrated sensing and communication~(ISAC) systems based on the orthogonal delay-Doppler multiplexing~(ODDM) modulation, which consists of a pulse-train that can achieve the orthogonality with respect to the resolution of the delay-Doppler~(DD) plane. To enhance the communication performance in the ODDM-based ISAC systems, we first propose a low-complexity approximation algorithm for channel estimation, which addresses the challenge of the high complexity from high resolution in the ODDM modulation, and achieves performance close to that of the maximum likelihood estimator scheme. Then, we employ the orthogonal approximate message-passing scheme to detect the symbols in the communication process based on the estimated channel information. Finally, simulation results show that the detection performance of ODDM is better than other multi-carrier modulation schemes. Specifically, the ODDM outperforms the orthogonal time frequency space scheme by 2.3 dB when the bit error ratio is $10^{-6}$.

In recent years, diffusion-based text-to-music (TTM) generation has gained prominence, offering an innovative approach to synthesizing musical content from textual descriptions. Achieving high accuracy and diversity in this generation process requires extensive, high-quality data, including both high-fidelity audio waveforms and detailed text descriptions, which often constitute only a small portion of available datasets. In open-source datasets, issues such as low-quality music waveforms, mislabeling, weak labeling, and unlabeled data significantly hinder the development of music generation models. To address these challenges, we propose a novel paradigm for high-quality music generation that incorporates a quality-aware training strategy, enabling generative models to discern the quality of input music waveforms during training. Leveraging the unique properties of musical signals, we first adapted and implemented a masked diffusion transformer (MDT) model for the TTM task, demonstrating its distinct capacity for quality control and enhanced musicality. Additionally, we address the issue of low-quality captions in TTM with a caption refinement data processing approach. Experiments demonstrate our state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance on MusicCaps and the Song-Describer Dataset. Our demo page can be accessed at https://qa-mdt.github.io/.

In this work, we present Semantic Gesticulator, a novel framework designed to synthesize realistic gestures accompanying speech with strong semantic correspondence. Semantically meaningful gestures are crucial for effective non-verbal communication, but such gestures often fall within the long tail of the distribution of natural human motion. The sparsity of these movements makes it challenging for deep learning-based systems, trained on moderately sized datasets, to capture the relationship between the movements and the corresponding speech semantics. To address this challenge, we develop a generative retrieval framework based on a large language model. This framework efficiently retrieves suitable semantic gesture candidates from a motion library in response to the input speech. To construct this motion library, we summarize a comprehensive list of commonly used semantic gestures based on findings in linguistics, and we collect a high-quality motion dataset encompassing both body and hand movements. We also design a novel GPT-based model with strong generalization capabilities to audio, capable of generating high-quality gestures that match the rhythm of speech. Furthermore, we propose a semantic alignment mechanism to efficiently align the retrieved semantic gestures with the GPT's output, ensuring the naturalness of the final animation. Our system demonstrates robustness in generating gestures that are rhythmically coherent and semantically explicit, as evidenced by a comprehensive collection of examples. User studies confirm the quality and human-likeness of our results, and show that our system outperforms state-of-the-art systems in terms of semantic appropriateness by a clear margin.

In this letter, we study interleave frequency division multiplexing (IFDM) for multicarrier modulation in static multipath and mobile time-varying channels, which outperforms orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS), and affine frequency division multiplexing (AFDM) by considering practical advanced detectors. The fundamental principle underlying existing modulation techniques is to establish sparse equivalent channel matrices in order to facilitate the design of low-complexity detection algorithms for signal recovery, making a trade-off between performance and implementation complexity. In contrast, the proposed IFDM establishes an equivalent fully dense and right-unitarily invariant channel matrix with the goal of achieving channel capacity, ensuring that the signals undergo sufficient statistical channel fading. Meanwhile, a low-complexity and replica maximum a posteriori (MAP)-optimal cross-domain memory approximate message passing (CD-MAMP) detector is proposed for IFDM by exploiting the sparsity of the time-domain channel and the unitary invariance in interleave-frequency-domain channel. Numerical results show that IFDM with extremely low-complexity CD-MAMP outperforms OFDM, OTFS, and AFDM with state-of-the-art orthogonal approximate message passing detectors, particularly at low velocities.

X-ray images play a vital role in the intraoperative processes due to their high resolution and fast imaging speed and greatly promote the subsequent segmentation, registration and reconstruction. However, over-dosed X-rays superimpose potential risks to human health to some extent. Data-driven algorithms from volume scans to X-ray images are restricted by the scarcity of paired X-ray and volume data. Existing methods are mainly realized by modelling the whole X-ray imaging procedure. In this study, we propose a learning-based approach termed CT2X-GAN to synthesize the X-ray images in an end-to-end manner using the content and style disentanglement from three different image domains. Our method decouples the anatomical structure information from CT scans and style information from unpaired real X-ray images/ digital reconstructed radiography (DRR) images via a series of decoupling encoders. Additionally, we introduce a novel consistency regularization term to improve the stylistic resemblance between synthesized X-ray images and real X-ray images. Meanwhile, we also impose a supervised process by computing the similarity of computed real DRR and synthesized DRR images. We further develop a pose attention module to fully strengthen the comprehensive information in the decoupled content code from CT scans, facilitating high-quality multi-view image synthesis in the lower 2D space. Extensive experiments were conducted on the publicly available CTSpine1K dataset and achieved 97.8350, 0.0842 and 3.0938 in terms of FID, KID and defined user-scored X-ray similarity, respectively. In comparison with 3D-aware methods ($π$-GAN, EG3D), CT2X-GAN is superior in improving the synthesis quality and realistic to the real X-ray images.

In this paper, we study the trajectory optimization of a cellular-connected unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) which aims to sense the location of a target while maintaining satisfactory communication quality with the ground base stations (GBSs). In contrast to most existing works which assumed the target's location is known, we focus on a more challenging scenario where the exact location of the target to be sensed is unknown and random, while its distribution is known a priori and stored in a novel target location distribution map. Based on this map, the probability for the UAV to successfully sense the target can be expressed as a function of the UAV's trajectory. We aim to optimize the UAV's trajectory between two pre-determined locations to maximize the overall sensing probability during its flight, subject to a GBS-UAV communication quality constraint at each time instant and a maximum mission completion time constraint. Despite the non-convexity and NP-hardness of this problem, we devise three high-quality suboptimal solutions tailored for it with polynomial complexity. Numerical results show that our proposed designs outperform various benchmark schemes.

Despite recent advancements in speech generation with text prompt providing control over speech style, voice attributes in synthesized speech remain elusive and challenging to control. This paper introduces a novel task: voice attribute editing with text prompt, with the goal of making relative modifications to voice attributes according to the actions described in the text prompt. To solve this task, VoxEditor, an end-to-end generative model, is proposed. In VoxEditor, addressing the insufficiency of text prompt, a Residual Memory (ResMem) block is designed, that efficiently maps voice attributes and these descriptors into the shared feature space. Additionally, the ResMem block is enhanced with a voice attribute degree prediction (VADP) block to align voice attributes with corresponding descriptors, addressing the imprecision of text prompt caused by non-quantitative descriptions of voice attributes. We also establish the open-source VCTK-RVA dataset, which leads the way in manual annotations detailing voice characteristic differences among different speakers. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness and generalizability of our proposed method in terms of both objective and subjective metrics. The recent advancements in large language models (LLMs) have revolutionized the field of natural language processing, progressively broadening their scope to multimodal perception and generation. However, effectively integrating listening capabilities into LLMs poses significant challenges, particularly with respect to generalizing across varied contexts and executing complex auditory tasks. In this work, we introduce WavLLM, a robust and adaptive speech large language model with dual encoders, and a prompt-aware LoRA weight adapter, optimized by a two-stage curriculum learning approach. Leveraging dual encoders, we decouple different types of speech information, utilizing a Whisper encoder to process the semantic content of speech, and a WavLM encoder to capture the unique characteristics of the speaker's identity. Within the curriculum learning framework, WavLLM first builds its foundational capabilities by optimizing on mixed elementary single tasks, followed by advanced multi-task training on more complex tasks such as combinations of the elementary tasks. To enhance the flexibility and adherence to different tasks and instructions, a prompt-aware LoRA weight adapter is introduced in the second advanced multi-task training stage. We validate the proposed model on universal speech benchmarks including tasks such as ASR, ST, SV, ER, and also apply it to specialized datasets like Gaokao English listening comprehension set for SQA, and speech Chain-of-Thought (CoT) evaluation set. Experiments demonstrate that the proposed model achieves state-of-the-art performance across a range of speech tasks on the same model size, exhibiting robust generalization capabilities in executing complex tasks using CoT approach. Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) has recently attracted tremendous attention from both academia and industry, being envisioned as a key part of the standards for the sixth-generation (6G) cellular network. A key challenge of 6G-oriented ISAC lies in how to perform ubiquitous sensing based on the communication signals and devices. Previous works have made great progresses on studying the signal waveform design that leads to optimal communication-sensing performance tradeoff. In this article, we aim to focus on issues arising from the exploitation of the communication devices for sensing in 6G network. Particularly, we will discuss about how to leverage various nodes available in the cellular network as anchors to perform ubiquitous sensing. On one hand, the base stations (BSs) will be the most important anchors in the future 6G ISAC network, since they can generate/process radio signals with high range/angle resolutions, and their positions are precisely known. Correspondingly, we will first study the BS-based sensing technique. On the other hand, the BSs alone may not enable ubiquitous sensing, since they cannot cover all the places with strong line-of-sight (LOS) links. This motivates us to investigate the possibility of using other nodes that are with higher density in the network to act as the anchors. Along this line, we are interested in two types of new anchors - user equipments (UEs) and reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs). This paper will shed light on the opportunities and challenges brought by UE-assisted sensing and RIS-assisted sensing. Our goal is to devise a novel 6G-oriented sensing architecture where BSs, UEs, and RISs can work together to provide ubiquitous sensing services.

Due to the fact that the locations of base stations (BSs) cannot be changed after they are installed, it is very difficult to communicate directly with remote user equipment (UE), which will directly affect the lifespan of the system. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) offer a hopeful solution as mobile relays for fifth-generation wireless communications due to the flexible and cost-effective deployment. However, with the limited onboard energy of UAV and slow progress in energy storage technology, it is a key challenge to achieve the energy-efficient communication. Therefore, in this article, we study a wireless communication network using a UAV as a high-altitude relay, and formulate a UAV relay deployment optimization problem (URDOP) to minimize the energy consumption of system by optimizing the deployment of UAV, including the locations and number of UAV hover points. Since the formulated URDOP is a mixed-integer programming problem, it presents a significant challenge for conventional gradient-based approaches. To this end, we propose a self-adaptive differential evolution with a variable population size (SaDEVPS) algorithm to solve the formulated URDOP. The performance of proposed SaDEVPS is verified through simulations, and the results show that it can successfully decrease the energy consumption of system when compared to other benchmark algorithms across multiple instances.

Specifically, we take into account a unmanned aerial vehicle-enabled visible light communication scenario with multiplex transmitters, multiplex receivers, and a single eavesdropper, each of which is equipped with a single photodetector. Then, a unmanned aerial vehicle deployment multi-objective optimization problem is formulated to simultaneously make the optical power received by receiving surface more uniform, minimize the amount of information collected by a eavesdropper, and minimize the energy consumption of unmanned aerial vehicles, while the locations and transmission power of unmanned aerial vehicles are simultaneously optimized under certain constraints. Since the formulated unmanned aerial vehicle deployment multi-objective optimization problem is complex and nonlinear, it is challenging to be tackled by using conventional methods. The ground fixed base stations (BSs) are often deployed inflexibly, and have high overheads, as well as are susceptible to the damage from natural disasters, making it impractical for them to continuously collect data from sensor devices. To improve the network coverage and performance of wireless communication, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been introduced in diverse wireless networks, therefore in this work we consider employing a UAV as an aerial BS to acquire data of agricultural Internet of Things (IoT) devices. To this end, we first formulate a UAV-assisted data collection multi-objective optimization problem (UDCMOP) to efficiently collect the data from agricultural sensing devices. Specifically, we aim to collaboratively optimize the hovering positions of UAV, visit sequence of UAV, speed of UAV, in addition to the transmit power of devices, to simultaneously achieve the maximization of minimum transmit rate of devices, the minimization of total energy consumption of devices, and the minimization of total energy consumption of UAV. Second, the proposed UDCMOP is a non-convex mixed integer nonlinear optimization problem, which indicates that it includes continuous and discrete solutions, making it intractable to be solved. Therefore, we solve it by proposing an improved multi-objective artificial hummingbird algorithm (IMOAHA) with several specific improvement factors, that are the hybrid initialization operator, Cauchy mutation foraging operator, in addition to the discrete mutation operator. Finally, simulations are carried out to testify that the proposed IMOAHA can effectively improve the system performance comparing to other benchmarks.

In this scheme, the AC network of the OWF and the DRU has completely different synchronization mechanisms and power flow characteristics from the traditional power system. To optimize the power flow and reduce the net loss, this paper carries out the power flow modeling and optimization analysis for the DRU-HVDC transmission system with grid-forming OWFs. The influence of the DRU and the GFM wind turbines on the power flow of the system is analyzed. On this basis, improved constraint conditions are proposed and an optimal power flow (OPF) method is established. Integrating biophysics-informed regularisation is one effective way to change this situation, as it provides an prior regularisation for automated end-to-end learning. In this paper, we propose a novel approach that designs brain tumour growth Partial Differential Equation (PDE) models as a regularisation with deep learning, operational with any network model. Our method introduces tumour growth PDE models directly into the segmentation process, improving accuracy and robustness, especially in data-scarce scenarios. This system estimates tumour cell density using a periodic activation function. By effectively integrating this estimation with biophysical models, we achieve a better capture of tumour characteristics. This approach not only aligns the segmentation closer to actual biological behaviour but also strengthens the model's performance under limited data conditions. Adversarial attack methods based on point manipulation for 3D point cloud classification have revealed the fragility of 3D models, yet the adversarial examples they produce are easily perceived or defended against. The trade-off between the imperceptibility and adversarial strength leads most point attack methods to inevitably introduce easily detectable outlier points upon a successful attack. Another promising strategy, shape-based attack, can effectively eliminate outliers, but existing methods often suffer significant reductions in imperceptibility due to irrational deformations. We find that concealing deformation perturbations in areas insensitive to human eyes can achieve a better trade-off between imperceptibility and adversarial strength, specifically in parts of the object surface that are complex and exhibit drastic curvature changes. Therefore, we propose a novel shape-based adversarial attack method, HiT-ADV, which initially conducts a two-stage search for attack regions based on saliency and imperceptibility scores, and then adds deformation perturbations in each attack region using Gaussian kernel functions. Additionally, HiT-ADV is extendable to physical attack. We propose that by employing benign resampling and benign rigid transformations, we can further enhance physical adversarial strength with little sacrifice to imperceptibility. Extensive experiments have validated the superiority of our method in terms of adversarial and imperceptible properties in both digital and physical spaces. Our code is avaliable at: https://github.com/TRLou/HiT-ADV.

In this paper, we examine the role of stochastic quantizers for privacy preservation. We first employ a static stochastic quantizer and investigate its corresponding privacy-preserving properties. Specifically, we demonstrate that a sufficiently large quantization step guarantees $(0, δ)$ differential privacy. Additionally, the degradation of control performance caused by quantization is evaluated as the tracking error of output regulation. These two analyses characterize the trade-off between privacy and control performance, determined by the quantization step. This insight enables us to use quantization intentionally as a means to achieve the seemingly conflicting two goals of maintaining control performance and preserving privacy at the same time; towards this end, we further investigate a dynamic stochastic quantizer. Under a stability assumption, the dynamic stochastic quantizer can enhance privacy, more than the static one, while achieving the same control performance. We further handle the unstable case by additionally applying input Gaussian noise.

Integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) into the air interface has been envisioned as a key technology for next-generation (NextG) cellular networks. At the air interface, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and its variants such as multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO) and massive/full-dimension MIMO have been key enablers across successive generations of cellular networks with evolving complexity and design challenges. Initiating active investigation into leveraging AI/ML tools to address these challenges for MIMO becomes a critical step towards an AI-enabled NextG air interface. At the NextG air interface, the underlying wireless environment will be extremely dynamic with operation adaptations performed on a sub-millisecond basis by MIMO operations such as MU-MIMO scheduling and rank/link adaptation. Given the enormously large number of operation adaptation possibilities, we contend that online real-time AI/ML-based approaches constitute a promising paradigm. To this end, we outline the inherent challenges and offer insights into the design of such online real-time AI/ML-based solutions for MIMO operations. An online real-time AI/ML-based method for MIMO-OFDM channel estimation is then presented, serving as a potential roadmap for developing similar techniques across various MIMO operations in NextG.

Bandwidth constraints during signal acquisition frequently impede real-time detection applications. Hyperspectral data is a notable example, whose vast volume compromises real-time hyperspectral detection. To tackle this hurdle, we introduce a novel approach leveraging pre-acquisition modulation to reduce the acquisition volume. This modulation process is governed by a deep learning model, utilizing prior information. Central to our approach is LUM-ViT, a Vision Transformer variant. Uniquely, LUM-ViT incorporates a learnable under-sampling mask tailored for pre-acquisition modulation. To further optimize for optical calculations, we propose a kernel-level weight binarization technique and a three-stage fine-tuning strategy. Our evaluations reveal that, by sampling a mere 10% of the original image pixels, LUM-ViT maintains the accuracy loss within 1.8% on the ImageNet classification task. The method sustains near-original accuracy when implemented on real-world optical hardware, demonstrating its practicality. Code will be available at https://github.com/MaxLLF/LUM-ViT.

This paper investigates the robust cooperative output regulation problem for a class of heterogeneous uncertain linear multi-agent systems with an unknown exosystem via event-triggered control (ETC). By utilizing the internal model approach and the adaptive control technique, a distributed adaptive internal model is constructed for each agent. Then, based on this internal model, a fully distributed ETC strategy composed of a distributed event-triggered adaptive output feedback control law and a distributed dynamic event-triggering mechanism is proposed, in which each agent updates its control input at its own triggering time instants. It is shown that under the proposed ETC strategy, the robust cooperative output regulation problem can be solved without requiring either the global information associated with the communication topology or the bounds of the uncertain or unknown parameters in each agent and the exosystem. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.

The dynamic competition between radar and jammer systems presents a significant challenge for modern Electronic Warfare (EW), as current active learning approaches still lack sample efficiency and fail to exploit jammer's characteristics. In this paper, the competition between a frequency agile radar and a Digital Radio Frequency Memory (DRFM)-based intelligent jammer is considered. We introduce an Online Convex Optimization (OCO) framework designed to illustrate this adversarial interaction. Notably, traditional OCO algorithms exhibit suboptimal sample efficiency due to the limited information obtained per round. To address the limitations, two refined algorithms are proposed, utilizing unbiased gradient estimators that leverage the unique attributes of the jammer system. Sub-linear theoretical results on both static regret and universal regret are provided, marking a significant improvement in OCO performance. Furthermore, simulation results reveal that the proposed algorithms outperform common OCO baselines, suggesting the potential for effective deployment in real-world scenarios.

We propose a new method for autonomous navigation in uneven terrains by utilizing a sparse Gaussian Process (SGP) based local perception model. The SGP local perception model is trained on local ranging observation (pointcloud) to learn the terrain elevation profile and extract the feasible navigation subgoals around the robot. Subsequently, a cost function, which prioritizes the safety of the robot in terms of keeping the robot's roll and pitch angles bounded within a specified range, is used to select a safety-aware subgoal that leads the robot to its final destination. The algorithm is designed to run in real-time and is intensively evaluated in simulation and real world experiments. The results compellingly demonstrate that our proposed algorithm consistently navigates uneven terrains with high efficiency and surpasses the performance of other planners. Cued Speech (CS) is a pure visual coding method used by hearing-impaired people that combines lip reading with several specific hand shapes to make the spoken language visible. Automatic CS recognition (ACSR) seeks to transcribe visual cues of speech into text, which can help hearing-impaired people to communicate effectively. The visual information of CS contains lip reading and hand cueing, thus the fusion of them plays an important role in ACSR. However, most previous fusion methods struggle to capture the global dependency present in long sequence inputs of multi-modal CS data. As a result, these methods generally fail to learn the effective cross-modal relationships that contribute to the fusion. Recently, attention-based transformers have been a prevalent idea for capturing the global dependency over the long sequence in multi-modal fusion, but existing multi-modal fusion transformers suffer from both poor recognition accuracy and inefficient computation for the ACSR task. To address these problems, we develop a novel computation and parameter efficient multi-modal fusion transformer by proposing a novel Token-Importance-Aware Attention mechanism (TIAA), where a token utilization rate (TUR) is formulated to select the important tokens from the multi-modal streams. More precisely, TIAA firstly models the modality-specific fine-grained temporal dependencies over all tokens of each modality, and then learns the efficient cross-modal interaction for the modality-shared coarse-grained temporal dependencies over the important tokens of different modalities. Besides, a light-weight gated hidden projection is designed to control the feature flows of TIAA. The resulting model, named Economical Cued Speech Fusion Transformer (EcoCued), achieves state-of-the-art performance on all existing CS datasets, compared with existing transformer-based fusion methods and ACSR fusion methods.

Utilizing distributed renewable and energy storage resources in local distribution networks via peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading has long been touted as a solution to improve energy systems' resilience and sustainability. Consumers and prosumers (those who have energy generation resources), however, do not have the expertise to engage in repeated P2P trading, and the zero-marginal costs of renewables present challenges in determining fair market prices. To address these issues, we propose multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) frameworks to help automate consumers' bidding and management of their solar PV and energy storage resources, under a specific P2P clearing mechanism that utilizes the so-called supply-demand ratio. In addition, we show how the MARL frameworks can integrate physical network constraints to realize voltage control, hence ensuring physical feasibility of the P2P energy trading and paving way for real-world implementations.

Similarly, a fractional shift causes an index-limited sequence to be infinite in extent due to the inherent band-limiting. Index-limited versions of discrete prolate spheroidal sequences (DPSS) are known to experience minimum leakage after band-limiting. In this work, we consider the effect of a half-sample shift and provide upper bounds on the resulting leakage energy for arbitrary sequences. Furthermore, we find an orthonormal basis derived from DPSS with members ordered according to energy concentration after half sample shifts; the primary (first) member being the global optimum.

Multi-target detection is one of the primary tasks in radar-based localization and sensing, typically built on phased array antennas. However, the bulky hardware in the phased array restricts its potential for enhancing detection accuracy, since the cost and power of the phased array can become unaffordable as its physical aperture scales up to pursue higher beam shaping capabilities. To resolve this issue, we propose a radar system enabled by reconfigurable holographic surfaces (RHSs), a novel meta-surface antenna composed of meta-material elements with cost-effective and power-efficient hardware, which performs multi-target detection in an adaptive manner. Different from the phase-control structure in the phased array, the RHS is able to apply beamforming by controlling the radiation amplitudes of its elements. Consequently, traditional beamforming schemes designed for phased arrays cannot be directly applied to RHSs due to this structural difference. To tackle this challenge, a waveform and amplitude optimization algorithm (WAOA) is designed to jointly optimize the radar waveform and RHS amplitudes in order to improve the detection accuracy. Simulation results reveal that the proposed RHS-enabled radar increases the probability of detection by 0.13 compared to phased array radars when six iterations of adaptive detection are performed given the same hardware cost.

To realize holographic communications, a potential technology for spectrum efficiency improvement in the future sixth-generation (6G) network, antenna arrays inlaid with numerous antenna elements will be deployed. However, the increase in antenna aperture size makes some users lie in the Fresnel region, leading to the hybrid near-field and far-field communication mode, where the conventional far-field channel estimation methods no longer work well. To tackle the above challenge, this paper considers channel estimation in a hybrid-field multipath environment, where each user and each scatterer can be in either the far-field or the near-field region. First, a joint angular-polar domain channel transform is designed to capture the hybrid-field channel's near-field and far-field features. We then analyze the power diffusion effect in the hybrid-field channel, which indicates that the power corresponding to one near-field (far-field) path component of the multipath channel may spread to far-field (near-field) paths and causes estimation error. We design a novel power-diffusion-based orthogonal matching pursuit channel estimation algorithm (PD-OMP). It can eliminate the prior knowledge requirement of path numbers in the far field and near field, which is a must in other OMP-based channel estimation algorithms. Simulation results show that PD-OMP outperforms current hybrid-field channel estimation methods.

Early diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and subjective cognitive decline (SCD) utilizing multi-modal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a pivotal area of research. While various regional and connectivity features from functional MRI (fMRI) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) have been employed to develop diagnosis models, most studies integrate these features without adequately addressing their alignment and interactions. This limits the potential to fully exploit the synergistic contributions of combined features and modalities. To solve this gap, our study introduces a novel Hierarchical Alignments and Hierarchical Interactions (HA-HI) method for MCI and SCD classification, leveraging the combined strengths of fMRI and DTI. HA-HI efficiently learns significant MCI- or SCD- related regional and connectivity features by aligning various feature types and hierarchically maximizing their interactions. Furthermore, to enhance the interpretability of our approach, we have developed the Synergistic Activation Map (SAM) technique, revealing the critical brain regions and connections that are indicative of MCI/SCD. Comprehensive evaluations on the ADNI dataset and our self-collected data demonstrate that HA-HI outperforms other existing methods in diagnosing MCI and SCD, making it a potentially vital and interpretable tool for early detection. The implementation of this method is publicly accessible at https://github.com/ICI-BCI/Dual-MRI-HA-HI.git.

In multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, representing the whole channel only based on partial subchannels will significantly reduce the channel acquisition overhead. For such a channel mapping task, inspired by the intrinsic coupling across the space and frequency domains, this letter proposes to use interleaved learning with partial antenna and subcarrier characteristics to represent the whole MIMO-OFDM channel. Specifically, we design a complex-domain multilayer perceptron (MLP)-Mixer (CMixer), which utilizes two kinds of complex-domain MLP modules to learn the space and frequency characteristics respectively and then interleaves them to couple the learned properties. The complex-domain computation facilitates the learning on the complex-valued channel data, while the interleaving tightens the coupling of space and frequency domains. These two designs jointly reduce the learning burden, making the physics-inspired CMixer more effective on channel representation learning than existing data-driven approaches. Simulation shows that the proposed scheme brings 4.6~10dB gains in mapping accuracy compared to existing schemes under different settings. Besides, ablation studies show the necessity of complex-domain computation as well as the extent to which the interleaved learning matches the channel properties.
