In this paper, an application of a 1D deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) and 4x4 1D DCNN Multi-channel Model (DCNN-MCM) was developed to predict the probability of a channel being associated with a given transmitter for each emitter in a 4x4 multi-input multi-output (MIMO) system. Counterintuitively, compared to the traditional approach to emitter association (EA), this research argues for the identification of received RF signals based on channel features (CFs) such as the channel impulse response (CIR) and transfer function (TF). Based on the CFs there are unique properties per transmit and receive pair that can be used to identify the different transmitters. More specifically, CFs are often defined by a wide sense stationary (WSS) stochastic process which gives them unique properties such as, being statistically independent and reciprocal for emitter association. Given these CFs, the received RF signals can be used to measure the clutter and objects surrounding the emitters. Safely assuming the surrounding clutter and objects are unique to each emitter, the estimation and tracking of this clutter provides a way of identifying what emitter is transmitting the observed signal. This method successfully classifies and identifies the emitters at 97.22% and 88.89% accuracy for the DCNN and DCNN-MCM respectively. This method was further compared with the accuracy of previous methods to test the validity of the approach and future improvements.

Connected and autonomous vehicles are already right around the corner of our everyday life. One of the key technologies actualizing the connected vehicles is vehicle-to-everything communications (V2X), which has been enhanced along the lines of two technologies--i.e., dedicated short-range communications (DSRC) and cellular V2X (C-V2X). While the United States (U.S.) federal government is on the move of transitioning to C-V2X, a vast majority of stakeholders are still heavily relying on DSRC. This makes a compelling case where DSRC still necessitates thorough studies not only theoretically but experimentally as well. To this line, we present a testbed that is dedicated to evaluating the performance of a DSRC system. Our study encompasses a few different test scenarios for precise confirmation of the performance. We claim that this experimental setup will play a vital role in future studies to assess the DSRC technology applied to various use cases.

Strategic pre-flight functions focus on the planning and deconfliction of routes for aircraft systems. The urban air mobility concept calls for higher levels of autonomy with onboard and en route functions but also strategic and pre-flight systems. Existing endeavours into strategic pre-flight functions focus on improving the route generation and strategic deconfliction of these routes. Introduced with the urban air mobility concept is the premise of operational volumes. These 4D regions of airspace, describe the intended operational region for an aircraft for finite time. Chaining these together forms a contract of finite operational volumes over a given route. It is no longer enough to only deconflict routes within the airspace, but to now consider these 4D operational volumes. To provide an effective all-in-one approach, we propose a novel framework for generating routes and accompanying contracts of operational volumes, along with deconfliction focused around 4D operational volumes. Experimental results show efficiency of operational volume generation utilising reachability analysis and demonstrate sufficient success in deconfliction of operational volumes.

This paper describes the results of an informal collaboration launched during the African Master of Machine Intelligence (AMMI) in June 2020. After a series of lectures and labs on speech data collection using mobile applications and on self-supervised representation learning from speech, a small group of students and the lecturer continued working on automatic speech recognition (ASR) project for three languages: Wolof, Ga, and Somali. This paper describes how data was collected and ASR systems developed with a small amount (1h) of transcribed speech as training data. In these low resource conditions, pre-training a model on large amounts of raw speech was fundamental for the efficiency of ASR systems developed.
