To accomplish various tasks, safe and smooth control of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) needs to be guaranteed, which cannot be met by existing ultra-reliable low latency communications (URLLC). This has attracted the attention of the communication field, where most existing work mainly focused on optimizing communication performance (i.e., delay) and ignored the performance of the task (i.e., tracking accuracy). To explore the effectiveness of communication in completing a task, in this letter, we propose a goal-oriented communication framework adopting a deep reinforcement learning (DRL) algorithm with a proactive repetition scheme (DeepP) to optimize C&C data selection and the maximum number of repetitions in a real-time target tracking task, where a base station (BS) controls a UAV to track a mobile target. The effectiveness of our proposed approach is validated by comparing it with the traditional proportional integral derivative (PID) algorithm.

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA), a common form of arthritis that causes physical disability, has become increasingly prevalent in society. Employing computer-aided techniques to automatically assess the severity and progression of KOA can greatly benefit KOA treatment and disease management. Particularly, the advancement of X-ray technology in KOA demonstrates its potential for this purpose. Yet, existing X-ray prognosis research generally yields a singular progression severity grade, overlooking the potential visual changes for understanding and explaining the progression outcome. Therefore, in this study, a novel generative model is proposed, namely Identity-Consistent Radiographic Diffusion Network (IC-RDN), for multifaceted KOA prognosis encompassing a predicted future knee X-ray scan conditioned on the baseline scan. Specifically, an identity prior module for the diffusion and a downstream generation-guided progression prediction module are introduced. Compared to conventional image-to-image generative models, identity priors regularize and guide the diffusion to focus more on the clinical nuances of the prognosis based on a contrastive learning strategy. The progression prediction module utilizes both forecasted and baseline knee scans, and a more comprehensive formulation of KOA severity progression grading is expected. Extensive experiments on a widely used public dataset, OAI, demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Virtual instrument technology has been increasingly used in university physics experiment teaching. An experimental platform is specifically constructed for studying low-frequency vibrations in university physics, which is based on a computer and its internal sound card, along with a program developed in LabVIEW programming environment to perform control and measurement on our experimental platform. The proposed platform effectively replaces the conventional signal generator and oscilloscope traditionally used in such experiments by integrating virtual instruments and essential experimental equipment. The platform offers various functionalities, such as synchronous transmission and reception of low-frequency signals, frequency measurement, dynamic frequency sweep measurement, and measurement using the three-point approximation method. The proposed platform has been successfully applied in experiments involving forced vibration, resonance of tuning forks, and dynamic measurement of Young's modulus. In this letter, we investigate the channel estimation problem for MIMO wireless communication systems with movable antennas (MAs) at both the transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx). To achieve high channel estimation accuracy with low pilot training overhead, we propose a tensor decomposition-based method for estimating the parameters of multi-path channel components, including their azimuth and elevation angles, as well as complex gain coefficients, thereby reconstructing the wireless channel between any pair of Tx and Rx MA positions in the Tx and Rx regions. First, we introduce a two-stage Tx-Rx successive antenna movement pattern for pilot training, such that the received pilot signals in both stages can be expressed as a third-order tensor. Then, we obtain the factor matrices of the tensor via the canonical polyadic decomposition, and thereby estimate the angle/gain parameters for enabling the channel reconstruction between arbitrary Tx/Rx MA positions. In addition, we analyze the uniqueness condition of the tensor decomposition, which ensures the complete channel reconstruction between the whole Tx and Rx regions based on the channel measurements at only a finite number of Tx/Rx MA positions. Finally, simulation results are presented to evaluate the proposed tensor decomposition-based method as compared to existing methods, in terms of channel estimation accuracy and pilot overhead.

In the context of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) that exhibit an elevated prevalence and mortality, the electrocardiogram (ECG) is a popular and standard diagnostic tool for doctors, commonly utilizing a 12-lead configuration in clinical practice. However, the 10 electrodes placed on the surface would cause a lot of inconvenience and discomfort, while the rapidly advancing wearable devices adopt the reduced-lead or single-lead ECG to reduce discomfort as a solution in long-term monitoring. Since the single-lead ECG is a subset of 12-lead ECG, it provides insufficient cardiac health information and plays a substandard role in real-world healthcare applications. Hence, it is necessary to utilize signal generation technologies to reduce their clinical importance gap by reconstructing 12-lead ECG from the real single-lead ECG. Specifically, this study proposes a multi-channel masked autoencoder (MCMA) for this goal. In the experimental results, the visualized results between the generated and real signals can demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework. At the same time, this study introduces a comprehensive evaluation benchmark named ECGGenEval, encompassing the signal-level, feature-level, and diagnostic-level evaluations, providing a holistic assessment of 12-lead ECG signals and generative model. Further, the quantitative experimental results are as follows, the mean square errors of 0.0178 and 0.0658, correlation coefficients of 0.7698 and 0.7237 in the signal-level evaluation, the average F1-score with two generated 12-lead ECG is 0.8319 and 0.7824 in the diagnostic-level evaluation, achieving the state-of-the-art performance. Cloud manufacturing system is a service-oriented and knowledge-based one, which can provide solutions for the large-scale customized production. The service resource allocation is the primary factor that restricts the production time and cost in the cloud manufacturing customized production (CMCP). In order to improve the efficiency and reduce the cost in CMCP, we propose a new framework which considers the collaboration among services with the same functionality. A mathematical evaluation formulation for the service composition and service usage scheme is constructed with the following critical indexes: completion time, cost, and number of selected services. Subsequently, a problem decomposition based genetic algorithm is designed to obtain the optimal service compositions with service usage schemes. A smart clothing customization case is illustrated so as to show the effectiveness and efficiency of the method proposed in this paper. Finally, the results of simulation experiments and comparisons show that these solutions obtained by our method are with the minimum time, a lower cost, and the fewer selected services.

This paper studies the automatic detection of suicide risk based on spontaneous speech from adolescents, and collects a Mandarin dataset with 15 hours of suicide speech from more than a thousand adolescents aged from ten to eighteen for our experiments. To leverage the diverse acoustic and linguistic features embedded in spontaneous speech, both the Whisper speech model and textual large language models (LLMs) are used for suicide risk detection. Both all-parameter finetuning and parameter-efficient finetuning approaches are used to adapt the pre-trained models for suicide risk detection, and multiple audio-text fusion approaches are evaluated to combine the representations of Whisper and the LLM. In recent years, text-to-speech (TTS) technology has witnessed impressive advancements, particularly with large-scale training datasets, showcasing human-level speech quality and impressive zero-shot capabilities on unseen speakers. However, despite human subjective evaluations, such as the mean opinion score (MOS), remaining the gold standard for assessing the quality of synthetic speech, even state-of-the-art TTS approaches have kept human feedback isolated from training that resulted in mismatched training objectives and evaluation metrics. In this work, we investigate a novel topic of integrating subjective human evaluation into the TTS training loop. Inspired by the recent success of reinforcement learning from human feedback, we propose a comprehensive sampling-annotating-learning framework tailored to TTS optimization, namely uncertainty-aware optimization (UNO). Specifically, UNO eliminates the need for a reward model or preference data by directly maximizing the utility of speech generations while considering the uncertainty that lies in the inherent variability in subjective human speech perception and evaluations. Experimental results of both subjective and objective evaluations demonstrate that UNO considerably improves the zero-shot performance of TTS models in terms of MOS, word error rate, and speaker similarity. Additionally, we present a remarkable ability of UNO that it can adapt to the desired speaking style in emotional TTS seamlessly and flexibly.

Speech emotion recognition is a challenging classification task with natural emotional speech, especially when the distribution of emotion types is imbalanced in the training and test data. In this case, it is more difficult for a model to learn to separate minority classes, resulting in those sometimes being ignored or frequently misclassified. Previous work has utilised class weighted loss for training, but problems remain as it sometimes causes over-fitting for minor classes or under-fitting for major classes. This paper presents the system developed by a multi-site team for the participation in the Odyssey 2024 Emotion Recognition Challenge Track-1. The challenge data has the aforementioned properties and therefore the presented systems aimed to tackle these issues, by introducing focal loss in optimisation when applying class weighted loss. Specifically, the focal loss is further weighted by prior-based class weights. Experimental results show that combining these two approaches brings better overall performance, by sacrificing performance on major classes. The system further employs a majority voting strategy to combine the outputs of an ensemble of 7 models. The models are trained independently, using different acoustic features and loss functions - with the aim to have different properties for different data. Hence these models show different performance preferences on major classes and minor classes. The ensemble system output obtained the best performance in the challenge, ranking top-1 among 68 submissions. It also outperformed all single models in our set. On the Odyssey 2024 Emotion Recognition Challenge Task-1 data the system obtained a Macro-F1 score of 35.69% and an accuracy of 37.32%.

Deep learning has been extensively applied in medical image reconstruction, where Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and Vision Transformers (ViTs) represent the predominant paradigms, each possessing distinct advantages and inherent limitations: CNNs exhibit linear complexity with local sensitivity, whereas ViTs demonstrate quadratic complexity with global sensitivity. The emerging Mamba has shown superiority in learning visual representation, which combines the advantages of linear scalability and global sensitivity. In this study, we introduce MambaMIR, an Arbitrary-Masked Mamba-based model with wavelet decomposition for joint medical image reconstruction and uncertainty estimation. A novel Arbitrary Scan Masking (ASM) mechanism "masks out" redundant information to introduce randomness for further uncertainty estimation. Compared to the commonly used Monte Carlo (MC) dropout, our proposed MC-ASM provides an uncertainty map without the need for hyperparameter tuning and mitigates the performance drop typically observed when applying dropout to low-level tasks. For further texture preservation and better perceptual quality, we employ the wavelet transformation into MambaMIR and explore its variant based on the Generative Adversarial Network, namely MambaMIR-GAN. Comprehensive experiments have been conducted for multiple representative medical image reconstruction tasks, demonstrating that the proposed MambaMIR and MambaMIR-GAN outperform other baseline and state-of-the-art methods in different reconstruction tasks, where MambaMIR achieves the best reconstruction fidelity and MambaMIR-GAN has the best perceptual quality. In addition, our MC-ASM provides uncertainty maps as an additional tool for clinicians, while mitigating the typical performance drop caused by the commonly used dropout.

Low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) plays a vital role in clinical applications by mitigating radiation risks. Nevertheless, reducing radiation doses significantly degrades image quality. Concurrently, common deep learning methods demand extensive data, posing concerns about privacy, cost, and time constraints. Consequently, we propose a few-shot low-dose CT reconstruction method using Partitioned Hankel-based Diffusion (PHD) models. During the prior learning stage, the projection data is first transformed into multiple partitioned Hankel matrices. Structured tensors are then extracted from these matrices to facilitate prior learning through multiple diffusion models. In the iterative reconstruction stage, an iterative stochastic differential equation solver is employed along with data consistency constraints to update the acquired projection data. Furthermore, penalized weighted least-squares and total variation techniques are introduced to enhance the resulting image quality. The results approximate those of normal-dose counterparts, validating PHD model as an effective and practical model for reducing artifacts and noise while preserving image quality.

However, the key to the success of self-supervised pre-training large models lies in massive training data, and maintaining high resolution in the field of X-ray images is the guarantee of effective solutions to difficult miscellaneous diseases. In this paper, we address these issues by proposing the first high-definition (1280 $\times$ 1280) X-ray based pre-trained foundation vision model on our newly collected large-scale dataset which contains more than 1 million X-ray images. Our model follows the masked auto-encoder framework which takes the tokens after mask processing (with a high rate) is used as input, and the masked image patches are reconstructed by the Transformer encoder-decoder network. More importantly, we introduce a novel context-aware masking strategy that utilizes the chest contour as a boundary for adaptive masking operations. We validate the effectiveness of our model on two downstream tasks, including X-ray report generation and disease recognition. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our pre-trained medical foundation vision model achieves comparable or even new state-of-the-art performance on downstream benchmark datasets. One of the challenges of AV-TSE is how to effectively utilize audio-visual synchronization information in the process. AV-HuBERT can be a useful pre-trained model for lip-reading, which has not been adopted by AV-TSE. In this paper, we would like to explore the way to integrate a pre-trained AV-HuBERT into our AV-TSE system. We have good reasons to expect an improved performance. To benefit from the inter and intra-modality correlations, we also propose a novel Mask-And-Recover (MAR) strategy for self-supervised learning. Electromagnetic wave absorbing material (EWAM) plays an essential role in manufacturing stealth aircraft, which can achieve the electromagnetic stealth (ES) by reducing the strength of the signal reflected back to the radar system. However, the stealth performance is limited by the coating thickness, incident wave angles, and working frequencies. To tackle these limitations, we propose a new intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-aided ES system where an IRS is deployed at the target to synergize with EWAM for effectively mitigating the echo signal and thus reducing the radar detection probability. Considering the monotonic relationship between the detection probability and the received signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) at the radar, we formulate an optimization problem that minimizes the SNR under the reflection constraint of each IRS element, and a semi-closed-form solution is derived by using Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) conditions. Simulation results validate the superiority of the proposed IRS-aided ES system compared to various benchmarks.

This work performs the design, real-time hardware realization, and experimental evaluation of a positioning system by ultra-violet (UV) communication under photon-level signal detection. The positioning is based on time-difference of arrival (TDOA) principle. Time division-based transmission of synchronization sequence from three transmitters with known positions is applied. We investigate the positioning error via decomposing it into two parts, the transmitter-side timing error and the receiver-side synchronization error. The theoretical average error matches well with the simulation results, which indicates that theoretical fitting can provide reliable guidance and prediction for hardware experiments. We also conduct real-time hardware realization of the TDOA-based positioning system using Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), which is experimentally evaluated via outdoor experiments. The novel non-volatile-memory (NVM) based computing-in-memory (CIM) architecture has shown great potential for better energy efficiency. However, most of the recent NVM-CIM solutions mainly focus on fixed-point calculation and are not applicable to floating-point (FP) processing. In this paper, we propose an analog-domain floating-point CIM architecture (AFPR-CIM) based on resistive random-access memory (RRAM). A novel adaptive dynamic-range FP-ADC is designed to convert the analog computation results into FP codes. Foundation models have shown superior performance for speech emotion recognition (SER). However, given the limited data in emotion corpora, finetuning all parameters of large pre-trained models for SER can be both resource-intensive and susceptible to overfitting. This paper investigates parameter-efficient finetuning (PEFT) for SER. Various PEFT adaptors are systematically studied for both classification of discrete emotion categories and prediction of dimensional emotional attributes. The results demonstrate that the combination of PEFT methods surpasses full finetuning with a significant reduction in the number of trainable parameters. Furthermore, a two-stage adaptation strategy is proposed to adapt models trained on acted emotion data, which is more readily available, to make the model more adept at capturing natural emotional expressions. Both intra- and cross-corpus experiments validate the efficacy of the proposed approach in enhancing the performance on both the source and target domains.

Regulating the proper carbon-aware intervention policy is one of the keys to emission alleviation in the distribution network, whose basis lies in effectively attributing the emission responsibility using emission factors. This paper establishes the distribution locational marginal emission (DLME) to calculate the marginal change of emission from the marginal change of both active and reactive load demand for incentivizing carbon alleviation. It first formulates the day-head distribution network scheduling model based on the second-order cone program (SOCP). The emission propagation and responsibility are analyzed from demand to supply to system emission. Considering the complex and implicit mapping of the SOCP-based scheduling model, the implicit theorem is leveraged to exploit the optimal condition of SOCP. The corresponding SOCP-based implicit derivation approach is proposed to calculate the DLMEs effectively in a model-based way. Comprehensive numerical studies are conducted to verify the superiority of the proposed method by comparing its calculation efficacy to the conventional marginal estimation approach, assessing its effectiveness in carbon alleviation with comparison to the average emission factors, and evaluating its carbon alleviation ability of reactive DLME.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a pivotal clinical diagnostic tool, yet its extended scanning times often compromise patient comfort and image quality, especially in volumetric, temporal and quantitative scans. This review elucidates recent advances in MRI acceleration via data and physics-driven models, leveraging techniques from algorithm unrolling models, enhancement-based models, and plug-and-play models to emergent full spectrum of generative models. We also explore the synergistic integration of data models with physics-based insights, encompassing the advancements in multi-coil hardware accelerations like parallel imaging and simultaneous multi-slice imaging, and the optimization of sampling patterns. We then focus on domain-specific challenges and opportunities, including image redundancy exploitation, image integrity, evaluation metrics, data heterogeneity, and model generalization. This work also discusses potential solutions and future research directions, emphasizing the role of data harmonization, and federated learning for further improving the general applicability and performance of these methods in MRI reconstruction.

Spoken Question Answering (SQA) is essential for machines to reply to user's question by finding the answer span within a given spoken passage. SQA has been previously achieved without ASR to avoid recognition errors and Out-of-Vocabulary (OOV) problems. However, the real-world problem of Open-domain SQA (openSQA), in which the machine needs to first retrieve passages that possibly contain the answer from a spoken archive in addition, was never considered. This paper proposes the first known end-to-end framework, Speech Dense Passage Retriever (SpeechDPR), for the retrieval component of the openSQA problem. SpeechDPR learns a sentence-level semantic representation by distilling knowledge from the cascading model of unsupervised ASR (UASR) and text dense retriever (TDR). No manually transcribed speech data is needed. Initial experiments showed performance comparable to the cascading model of UASR and TDR, and significantly better when UASR was poor, verifying this approach is more robust to speech recognition errors.

Cooperative perception (CP) is a key technology to facilitate consistent and accurate situational awareness for connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs). To tackle the network resource inefficiency issue in traditional broadcast-based CP, unicast-based CP has been proposed to associate CAV pairs for cooperative perception via vehicle-to-vehicle transmission. In this paper, we investigate unicast-based CP among CAV pairs. With the consideration of dynamic perception workloads and channel conditions due to vehicle mobility and dynamic radio resource availability, we propose an adaptive cooperative perception scheme for CAV pairs in a mixed-traffic autonomous driving scenario with both CAVs and human-driven vehicles. We aim to determine when to switch between cooperative perception and stand-alone perception for each CAV pair, and allocate communication and computing resources to cooperative CAV pairs for maximizing the computing efficiency gain under perception task delay requirements. A model-assisted multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) solution is developed, which integrates MARL for an adaptive CAV cooperation decision and an optimization model for communication and computing resource allocation. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme in achieving high computing efficiency gain, as compared with benchmark schemes.

3D multi-slab acquisitions are an appealing approach for diffusion MRI because they are compatible with the imaging regime delivering optimal SNR efficiency. In conventional 3D multi-slab imaging, shot-to-shot phase variations caused by motion pose challenges due to the use of multi-shot k-space acquisition. Navigator acquisition after each imaging echo is typically employed to correct phase variations, which prolongs scan time and increases the specific absorption rate (SAR). The aim of this study is to develop a highly efficient, self-navigated method to correct for phase variations in 3D multi-slab diffusion MRI without explicitly acquiring navigators. The sampling of each shot is carefully designed to intersect with the central kz plane of each slab, and the multi-shot sampling is optimized for self-navigation performance while retaining decent reconstruction quality. The central kz intersections from all shots are jointly used to reconstruct a 2D phase map for each shot using a structured low-rank constrained reconstruction that leverages the redundancy in shot and coil dimensions. The phase maps are used to eliminate the shot-to-shot phase inconsistency in the final 3D multi-shot reconstruction. We demonstrate the method's efficacy using retrospective simulations and prospectively acquired in-vivo experiments at 1.22 mm and 1.09 mm isotropic resolutions. Compared to conventional navigated 3D multi-slab imaging, the proposed self-navigated method achieves comparable image quality while shortening the scan time by 31.7% and improving the SNR efficiency by 15.5%. The proposed method produces comparable quality of DTI and white matter tractography to conventional navigated 3D multi-slab acquisition with a much shorter scan time.

Deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for image denoising can effectively exploit rich hierarchical features and have achieved great success. However, many deep CNN-based denoising models equally utilize the hierarchical features of noisy images without paying attention to the more important and useful features, leading to relatively low performance. To address the issue, we design a new Two-stage Progressive Residual Dense Attention Network (TSP-RDANet) for image denoising, which divides the whole process of denoising into two sub-tasks to remove noise progressively. Two different attention mechanism-based denoising networks are designed for the two sequential sub-tasks: the residual dense attention module (RDAM) is designed for the first stage, and the hybrid dilated residual dense attention module (HDRDAM) is proposed for the second stage. The proposed attention modules are able to learn appropriate local features through dense connection between different convolutional layers, and the irrelevant features can also be suppressed. The two sub-networks are then connected by a long skip connection to retain the shallow feature to enhance the denoising performance. The experiments on seven benchmark datasets have verified that compared with many state-of-the-art methods, the proposed TSP-RDANet can obtain favorable results both on synthetic and real noisy image denoising. The code of our TSP-RDANet is available at https://github.com/WenCongWu/TSP-RDANet.

Benefitting from the vast spatial degrees of freedom, the amalgamation of integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) and massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) is expected to simultaneously improve spectral and energy efficiencies as well as the sensing capability. However, a large number of antennas deployed in massive MIMO-ISAC raises critical challenges in acquiring both accurate channel state information and target parameter information. To overcome these two challenges with a unified framework, we first analyze their underlying system models and then propose a novel tensor-based approach that addresses both the channel estimation and target sensing problems. Specifically, by parameterizing the high-dimensional communication channel exploiting a small number of physical parameters, we associate the channel state information with the sensing parameters of targets in terms of angular, delay, and Doppler dimensions. Then, we propose a shared training pattern adopting the same time-frequency resources such that both the channel estimation and target parameter estimation can be formulated as a canonical polyadic decomposition problem with a similar mathematical expression. On this basis, we first investigate the uniqueness condition of the tensor factorization and the maximum number of resolvable targets by utilizing the specific Vandermonde

In pursuit of carbon neutrality, many countries have adopted renewable portfolio standards to facilitate the integration of renewable energy. However, increasing penetration of renewable energy resources will also pose higher requirements on system flexibility. Allowing renewable themselves to participate in the reserve market could be a viable solution. To this end, this paper proposes an optimal dispatch model for joint energy-reserve procurement that incorporates renewable portfolio standards and RES serve as reserve providers. Potential generator outages and deviations in renewable and load power are modelled through a given number of probability-weighted scenarios. In particular, reserve resources are initially booked in the base case and then activated in non-base scenarios through the re-dispatch process. Marginal pricing is used to derive energy, reserve, and power deviation prices. Next, we develop the associated settlement process and establish several market properties. The proposed pricing scheme establishes equivalence between thermal generators and renewable units by accounting for their uncertainties, including thermal generator outages and renewable power deviations, and their flexibility, namely reserve and re-dispatch. We have shown that for renewable resources, supplying reserve according to the dispatch results compared to generating as much as possible leads to better profits. Simulations validate the effectiveness of the proposed method and properties established.

The ultra-reliable and low-latency communication (URLLC) service of the fifth-generation (5G) mobile communication network struggles to support safe robot operation. Nowadays, the sixth-generation (6G) mobile communication network is proposed to provide hyper-reliable and low-latency communication to enable safer control for robots. However, current 5G/ 6G research mainly focused on improving communication performance, while the robotics community mostly assumed communication to be ideal. To jointly consider communication and robotic control with a focus on the specific robotic task, we propose task-oriented and semantics-aware communication in robotic control (TSRC) to exploit the context of data and its importance in achieving the task at both transmitter and receiver. At the transmitter, we propose a deep reinforcement learning algorithm to generate optimal control and command (C&C) data and a proactive repetition scheme (DeepPro) to increase the successful transmission probability. At the receiver, we design the value of information (VoI) and age of information (AoI) based queue ordering mechanism (VA-QOM) to reorganize the queue based on the semantic information extracted from the AoI and the VoI. The simulation results validate that our proposed TSRC framework achieves a 91.5% improvement in the mean square error compared to the traditional unmanned aerial vehicle control framework.

Secure communications are of paramount importance in spectrum sharing networks due to the allocation and sharing characteristics of spectrum resources. To further explore the potential of intelligent reflective surfaces (IRSs) in enhancing spectrum sharing and secure transmission performance, a multiple intelligent reflection surface (multi-IRS)-assisted sensing-enhanced wideband spectrum sharing network is investigated by considering physical layer security techniques. An intelligent resource allocation scheme based on double deep Q networks (D3QN) algorithm and soft Actor-Critic (SAC) algorithm is proposed to maximize the secure transmission rate of the secondary network by jointly optimizing IRS pairings, subchannel assignment, transmit beamforming of the secondary base station, reflection coefficients of IRSs and the sensing time. To tackle the sparse reward problem caused by a significant amount of reflection elements of multiple IRSs, the method of hierarchical reinforcement learning is exploited. An alternative optimization (AO)-based conventional mathematical scheme is introduced to verify the computational complexity advantage of our proposed intelligent scheme. Simulation results demonstrate the efficiency of our proposed intelligent scheme as well as the superiority of multi-IRS design in enhancing secrecy rate and spectrum utilization. It is shown that inappropriate deployment of IRSs can reduce the security performance with the presence of multiple eavesdroppers (Eves), and the arrangement of IRSs deserves further consideration.

Rain streaks bring complicated pixel intensity changes and additional gradients, greatly obstructing the extraction of image features from background. This causes serious performance degradation in feature-based applications. Thus, it is critical to remove rain streaks from a single rainy image to recover image features. Recently, many excellent image deraining methods have made remarkable progress. However, these human visual system-driven approaches mainly focus on improving image quality with pixel recovery as loss function, and neglect how to enhance image feature recovery ability. To address this issue, we propose a task-driven image deraining algorithm to strengthen image feature supply for subsequent feature-based applications. Due to the extensive use and strong practicability of Scale-Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT), we first propose two separate networks using distinct losses and modules to achieve two goals, respectively. One is difference of Gaussian (DoG) pyramid recovery network (DPRNet) for SIFT detection, and the other gradients of Gaussian images recovery network (GGIRNet) for SIFT description. Second, in the DPRNet we propose an alternative interest point loss that directly penalizes scale response extrema to recover the DoG pyramid. Third, we advance a gradient attention module in the GGIRNet to recover those gradients of Gaussian images. Finally, with the recovered DoG pyramid and gradients, we can regain SIFT key points. This divide-and-conquer scheme to set different objectives for SIFT detection and description leads to good robustness. Compared with state-of-the-art methods, experimental results demonstrate that our proposed algorithm achieves better performance in both the number of recovered SIFT key points and their accuracy.

The detection of Alzheimer's disease (AD) from spontaneous speech has attracted increasing attention while the sparsity of training data remains an important issue. This paper handles the issue by knowledge transfer, specifically from both speech-generic and depression-specific knowledge. The paper first studies sequential knowledge transfer from generic foundation models pretrained on large amounts of speech and text data. A block-wise analysis is performed for AD diagnosis based on the representations extracted from different intermediate blocks of different foundation models. Apart from the knowledge from speech-generic representations, this paper also proposes to simultaneously transfer the knowledge from a speech depression detection task based on the high comorbidity rates of depression and AD. A parallel knowledge transfer framework is studied that jointly learns the information shared between these two tasks. Experimental results show that the proposed method improves AD and depression detection, and produces a state-of-the-art F1 score of 0.928 for AD diagnosis on the commonly used ADReSSo dataset.

Developmental Canal Stenosis (DCS) quantification is crucial in cervical spondylosis screening. Compared with quantifying DCS manually, a more efficient and time-saving manner is provided by deep keypoint localization networks, which can be implemented in either the coordinate or the image domain. However, the vertebral visualization features often lead to abnormal topological structures during keypoint localization, including keypoint distortion with edges and weakly connected structures, which cannot be fully suppressed in either the coordinate or image domain alone. To overcome this limitation, a keypoint-edge and a reparameterization modules are utilized to restrict these abnormal structures in a cross-domain manner. The keypoint-edge constraint module restricts the keypoints on the edges of vertebrae, which ensures that the distribution pattern of keypoint coordinates is consistent with those for DCS quantification. And the reparameterization module constrains the weakly connected structures in image-domain heatmaps with coordinates combined. Moreover, the cross-domain network improves spatial generalization by utilizing heatmaps and incorporating coordinates for accurate localization, which avoids the trade-off between these two properties in an individual domain. Comprehensive results of distinct quantification tasks show the superiority and generability of the proposed Topology-inspired Cross-domain Network (TCN) compared with other competing localization methods.

Diffusion models have emerged as potential tools to tackle the challenge of sparse-view CT reconstruction, displaying superior performance compared to conventional methods. Nevertheless, these prevailing diffusion models predominantly focus on the sinogram or image domains, which can lead to instability during model training, potentially culminating in convergence towards local minimal solutions. The wavelet trans-form serves to disentangle image contents and features into distinct frequency-component bands at varying scales, adeptly capturing diverse directional structures. Employing the Wavelet transform as a guiding sparsity prior significantly enhances the robustness of diffusion models. In this study, we present an innovative approach named the Stage-by-stage Wavelet Optimization Refinement Diffusion (SWORD) model for sparse-view CT reconstruction. Specifically, we establish a unified mathematical model integrating low-frequency and high-frequency generative models, achieving the solution with optimization procedure. Furthermore, we perform the low-frequency and high-frequency generative models on wavelet's decomposed components rather than sinogram or image domains, ensuring the stability of model training. Our method rooted in established optimization theory, comprising three distinct stages, including low-frequency generation, high-frequency refinement and domain transform. Our experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods both quantitatively and qualitatively.

Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) are crucial technologies in the field of medical imaging. Score-based models have proven to be effective in addressing different inverse problems encountered in CT and MRI, such as sparse-view CT and fast MRI reconstruction. However, these models face challenges in achieving accurate three dimensional (3D) volumetric reconstruction. The existing score-based models primarily focus on reconstructing two dimensional (2D) data distribution, leading to inconsistencies between adjacent slices in the reconstructed 3D volumetric images. To overcome this limitation, we propose a novel two-and-a-half order score-based model (TOSM). During the training phase, our TOSM learns data distributions in 2D space, which reduces the complexity of training compared to directly working on 3D volumes. However, in the reconstruction phase, the TOSM updates the data distribution in 3D space, utilizing complementary scores along three directions (sagittal, coronal, and transaxial) to achieve a more precise reconstruction. The development of TOSM is built on robust theoretical principles, ensuring its reliability and efficacy. Through extensive experimentation on large-scale sparse-view CT and fast MRI datasets, our method demonstrates remarkable advancements and attains state-of-the-art results in solving 3D ill-posed inverse problems. Notably, the proposed TOSM effectively addresses the inter-slice inconsistency issue, resulting in high-quality 3D volumetric reconstruction.

Although automatic emotion recognition (AER) has recently drawn significant research interest, most current AER studies use manually segmented utterances, which are usually unavailable for dialogue systems. This paper proposes integrating AER with automatic speech recognition (ASR) and speaker diarisation (SD) in a jointly-trained system. Distinct output layers are built for four sub-tasks including AER, ASR, voice activity detection and speaker classification based on a shared encoder. Taking the audio of a conversation as input, the integrated system finds all speech segments and transcribes the corresponding emotion classes, word sequences, and speaker identities. Two metrics are proposed to evaluate AER performance with automatic segmentation based on time-weighted emotion and speaker classification errors. Results on the IEMOCAP dataset show that the proposed system consistently outperforms two baselines with separately trained single-task systems on AER, ASR and SD.

In this paper, the intra-day multi-interval rolling-window joint dispatch and pricing of energy and reserve is studied under increasing volatile and uncertain renewable generations. A look-ahead energy-reserve co-optimization model is proposed for the rolling-window dispatch, where possible contingencies and load/renewable forecast errors over the look-ahead window are modeled as several scenario trajectories, while generation, especially its ramp, is jointly scheduled with reserve to minimize the expected system cost considering these scenarios. Based on the proposed model, marginal prices of energy and reserve are derived, which incorporate shadow prices of generators' individual ramping capability limits to eliminate their possible ramping-induced opportunity costs or arbitrages. We prove that under mild conditions, the proposed market design provides dispatch-following incentives to generators without the need for out-of-the-market uplifts, and truthful-bidding incentives of price-taking generators can be guaranteed as well. Some discussions are also made on how to fit the proposed framework into current market practice. These findings are validated in numerical simulations.

The dynamic model of the gas network, described by partial differential equations, is complex and computationally demanding for power system operators. Furthermore, information privacy concerns and limited accessibility to detailed gas network models by power system operators necessitate quantifying the equivalent energy storage capacity of gas networks. This paper proposes a multi-port energy storage model with time-varying capacity to represent the dynamic gas state transformation and operational constraints in a compact and intuitive form. The model can be easily integrated into the optimal dispatch problem of the power system. Test cases demonstrate that the proposed model ensures feasible control strategies and significantly reduces the computational burden while maintaining high accuracy in the joint optimal dispatch of electricity-gas systems. In contrast, the existing static equivalent model fails to capture the full flexibility of the gas network and may yield infeasible results.

In automatic emotion recognition (AER), labels assigned by different human annotators to the same utterance are often inconsistent due to the inherent complexity of emotion and the subjectivity of perception. Though deterministic labels generated by averaging or voting are often used as the ground truth, it ignores the intrinsic uncertainty revealed by the inconsistent labels. This paper proposes a Bayesian approach, deep evidential emotion regression (DEER), to estimate the uncertainty in emotion attributes. Treating the emotion attribute labels of an utterance as samples drawn from an unknown Gaussian distribution, DEER places an utterance-specific normal-inverse gamma prior over the Gaussian likelihood and predicts its hyper-parameters using a deep neural network model. It enables a joint estimation of emotion attributes along with the aleatoric and epistemic uncertainties. AER experiments on the widely used MSP-Podcast and IEMOCAP datasets showed DEER produced state-of-the-art results for both the mean values and the distribution of emotion attributes.

In this paper, we propose a digital twin (DT)-assisted resource demand prediction scheme to enhance prediction accuracy for multicast short video streaming. Particularly, we construct user DTs (UDTs) for collecting real-time user status, including channel condition, location, watching duration, and preference. A reinforcement learning-empowered K-means++ algorithm is developed to cluster users based on the collected user status in UDTs, which can effectively employ the mined users' intrinsic correlation to improve the accuracy of user clustering. We then analyze users' video watching duration and preferences in each multicast group to obtain the swiping probability distribution and recommended videos, respectively. The obtained information is utilized to predict radio and computing resource demand of each multicast group. Initial results demonstrate that the proposed scheme can effectively abstract multicast groups' swiping probability distributions for accurate resource demand prediction.

This work introduces approaches to assessing phrase breaks in ESL learners' speech using pre-trained language models (PLMs) and large language models (LLMs). There are two tasks: overall assessment of phrase break for a speech clip and fine-grained assessment of every possible phrase break position. To leverage NLP models, speech input is first force-aligned with texts, and then pre-processed into a token sequence, including words and phrase break information. To utilize PLMs, we propose a pre-training and fine-tuning pipeline with the processed tokens. This process includes pre-training with a replaced break token detection module and fine-tuning with text classification and sequence labeling. To employ LLMs, we design prompts for ChatGPT. The experiments show that with the PLMs, the dependence on labeled training data has been greatly reduced, and the performance has improved. Meanwhile, we verify that ChatGPT, a renowned LLM, has potential for further advancement in this area.

Metal artifacts caused by the presence of metallic implants tremendously degrade the reconstructed computed tomography (CT) image quality, affecting clinical diagnosis or reducing the accuracy of organ delineation and dose calculation in radiotherapy. Recently, deep learning methods in sinogram and image domains have been rapidly applied on metal artifact reduction (MAR) task. The supervised dual-domain methods perform well on synthesized data, while unsupervised methods with unpaired data are more generalized on clinical data. However, most existing methods intend to restore the corrupted sinogram within metal trace, which essentially remove beam hardening artifacts but ignore other components of metal artifacts, such as scatter, non-linear partial volume effect and noise. In this paper, we mathematically derive a physical property of metal artifacts which is verified via Monte Carlo (MC) simulation and propose a novel physics based non-local dual-domain network (PND-Net) for MAR in CT imaging. Specifically, we design a novel non-local sinogram decomposition network (NSD-Net) to acquire the weighted artifact component, and an image restoration network (IR-Net) is proposed to reduce the residual and secondary artifacts in the image domain. To facilitate the generalization and robustness of our method on clinical CT images, we employ a trainable fusion network (F-Net) in the artifact synthesis path to achieve unpaired learning. Furthermore, we design an internal consistency loss to ensure the integrity of anatomical structures in the image domain, and introduce the linear interpolation sinogram as prior knowledge to guide sinogram decomposition. Extensive experiments on simulation and clinical data demonstrate that our method outperforms the state-of-the-art MAR methods.

Prediction plays a vital role in the active distribution network voltage regulation under the high penetration of photovoltaics. Current prediction models aim at minimizing individual prediction errors but overlook their collective impacts on downstream decision-making. Hence, this paper proposes a safety-aware semi-end-to-end coordinated decision model to bridge the gap from the downstream voltage regulation to the upstream multiple prediction models in a coordinated differential way. The semi-end-to-end model maps the input features to the optimal var decisions via prediction, decision-making, and decision-evaluating layers. It leverages the neural network and the second-order cone program (SOCP) to formulate the stochastic PV/load predictions and the var decision-making/evaluating separately. Then the var decision quality is evaluated via the weighted sum of the power loss for economy and the voltage violation penalty for safety, denoted by regulation loss. Based on the regulation loss and prediction errors, this paper proposes the hybrid loss and hybrid stochastic gradient descent algorithm to back-propagate the gradients of the hybrid loss with respect to multiple predictions for enhancing decision quality. Case studies verify the effectiveness of the proposed model with lower power loss for economy and lower voltage violation rate for safety awareness.

This paper proposes handling training data sparsity in speech-based automatic depression detection (SDD) using foundation models pre-trained with self-supervised learning (SSL). An analysis of SSL representations derived from different layers of pre-trained foundation models is first presented for SDD, which provides insight to suitable indicator for depression detection. Knowledge transfer is then performed from automatic speech recognition (ASR) and emotion recognition to SDD by fine-tuning the foundation models. Results show that the uses of oracle and ASR transcriptions yield similar SDD performance when the hidden representations of the ASR model is incorporated along with the ASR textual information. By integrating representations from multiple foundation models, state-of-the-art SDD results based on real ASR were achieved on the DAIC-WOZ dataset.

In image denoising, deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) can obtain favorable performance on removing spatially invariant noise. However, many of these networks cannot perform well on removing the real noise (i.e. spatially variant noise) generated during image acquisition or transmission, which severely sets back their application in practical image denoising tasks. Instead of continuously increasing the network depth, many researchers have revealed that expanding the width of networks can also be a useful way to improve model performance. It also has been verified that feature filtering can promote the learning ability of the models. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a novel Dual-branch Residual Attention Network (DRANet) for image denoising, which has both the merits of a wide model architecture and attention-guided feature learning. The proposed DRANet includes two different parallel branches, which can capture complementary features to enhance the learning ability of the model. We designed a new residual attention block (RAB) and a novel hybrid dilated residual attention block (HDRAB) for the upper and the lower branches, respectively. The RAB and HDRAB can capture rich local features through multiple skip connections between different convolutional layers, and the unimportant features are dropped by the residual attention modules. Meanwhile, the long skip connections in each branch, and the global feature fusion between the two parallel branches can capture the global features as well. Moreover, the proposed DRANet uses downsampling operations and dilated convolutions to increase the size of the receptive field, which can enable DRANet to capture more image context information. Extensive experiments demonstrate that compared with other state-of-the-art denoising methods, our DRANet can produce competitive denoising performance both on synthetic and real-world noise removal.

Massive multi-input multi-output (MIMO) in Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) mode suffers from heavy feedback overhead for Channel State Information (CSI). In this paper, a novel manifold learning-based CSI feedback framework (MLCF) is proposed to reduce the feedback and improve the spectral efficiency for FDD massive MIMO. Manifold learning (ML) is an effective method for dimensionality reduction. However, most ML algorithms focus only on data compression, and lack the corresponding recovery methods. Moreover, the computational complexity is high when dealing with incremental data. Considering to utilize the intrinsic manifold structure where the CSI samples reside, we propose a landmark selection algorithm to describe the topological skeleton of this manifold. Based on the learned skeleton, the local patch of the incremental CSI on the manifold can be easily determined by its nearest landmarks. This motivates us to propose an incremental CSI compression and reconstruction scheme by keeping the local geometric relationships with landmarks invariant. We theoretically prove the convergence of the proposed landmark selection algorithm. Meanwhile, the upper bound on the error of approximating CSI with landmarks is derived. Simulation results under an industrial channel model of 3GPP demonstrate that the proposed MLCF outperforms existing deep learning based algorithms.

Storage-concerned Optimal Power Flow (OPF) with complementarity constraints is highly non-convex and intractable. In this paper, we propose two generalized sufficient conditions which guarantee no simultaneous charging and discharging (SCD) in the relaxed multi-period OPF excluding the complementarity constraints. Moreover, we prove that the regions on the locational marginal prices (LMPs) formed by the proposed two conditions both contain the other existing representative ones. We also generalize the application premise of sufficient conditions from the positive electricity price requirements to the negative electricity price scenarios. In contrast to participating solely in the energy dispatch, we highlight that offering reserve services can broaden the application range of relaxation conditions for storages. The case studies verify the exactness and advantages of the proposed conditions.

In this paper, we consider waveform design for dualfunction radar-communication systems based on multiple-inputmultiple-out arrays. To achieve better Rician target detection performance, we use the relative entropy associated with the formulated detection problem as the design metric. We also impose a multiuser interference energy constraint on the waveforms to ensure the achievable sum-rate of the communications. Two algorithms are presented to tackle the nonlinear non-convex waveform design problem. In the first algorithm, we derive a quadratic function to minorize the objective function. To tackle the quadratically constrained quadratic programming problem at each iteration, a semidefinite relaxation approach followed by a rank-one decomposition procedure and an efficient alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) are proposed, respectively. In the second algorithm, we present a novel ADMM algorithm to tackle the optimization problem and employ an efficient minorization-maximization approach in the inner loop of the ADMM algorithm. Numerical results demonstrate the superiority of both algorithms. Moreover, the presented algorithms can be extended to synthesize peak-to-average-power ratio constrained waveforms, which allows the radio frequency amplifier to operate at an increased efficiency.

In this paper, we consider the co-design for improving the co-existence between multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) radar and MIMO communication system with the aid of RIS.The design purpose is to improve the radar detection performance and guarantee the communication capability. Due to the unimodular constraint on the RIS coefficients and the constant-envelope constraint on the radar transmit waveforms, the associated optimization problem is non-convex.To tackle this problem, we develop a cyclic method based on minorization-maximization, semi-definite programming, and alternating direction method of multipliers.
