AQ's Community Inclusion Team recently had the privilege of touring Brisbane City Council’s (BCC) new Brisbane Metro Vehicles. 🚌 Scheduled to debut on 21 October 2024, these vehicles will serve the 169 bus route between Eight Mile Plains and UQ St Lucia Station. Developed through a five-year co-design process, the Brisbane Metro Vehicles set new standards for public transport accessibility. They feature several inclusive design innovations, including real-time journey information, in-built USB charging points, ten priority seats, hearing loops, braille and tactile signage and low floor design for accessible boarding. AQ is working closely working with BCC around the launch of this initiative and future upcoming projects. What do you think of the Brisbane Metro? This week our AQ Cairns team attended the annual Disability Network Expo, and it sure was a busy one! Thanks to everyone who came to say hello and learn about the services we provide. It was oh so lovely to see current and previous clients and families, some whom even received AQ services 10 years ago!

Yesterday we had the pleasure of attending assembly at Saint Andrews Catholic School, Ferny Grove where we were warmly welcomed by all the senior leadership students including Arabella, Thomas, and Gian (pictured here with Adrienne Costin, Acting Manager Partners & Marketing). The Year 6 students have chosen AQ as their charity of choice for their annual Justice Walk, a lovely event where they raise funds for a cause they believe in. During the assembly, we had the opportunity to share with the students some information on the important work we do and how their fundraising will positively impact our community. We can't wait to see the event come to life!

Did you know that AQ has a dedicated team that can provide inclusion advice and consultation to community groups and local and state government projects among others? As part of the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP) Accessibility Working Group, members of our Community Inclusion Team recently visited a low fidelity mockup one of the new trains in QR’s New Generation Rollingstock. The aim of the QTMP Accessibility Working Group is to support the design of the most accessible and inclusive trains in Queensland. 🗞️ Read the full media release: https://buff.ly/4dGja7F AQ’s involvement in this space ensures that the experiences of neurodivergent users are considered as part of universal design and in line with our vision of All People, All Places, All Spaces. ✉️ [email protected]
