Last Friday we enjoyed the opportunity to attend the Greater Western Sydney Future Health Forum where NSW Minister for Health, Hon. Ryan Park, MP outlined a range of exciting developments in healthcare including the integration of AI, expanded virtual care services, and improved emergency care coordination. Minister Park highlighted the vital role of private sector partnerships, with the aim to help reduce wait times and to enhance patient care. Meet Matt Afshar (PMP. MSc.BEng), Senior Manager – Site Development. Matt has been instrumental in the planning and successful delivery of six GenesisCare centres including our most recent sites at Campbelltown, Frenchs Forest, and Noosa. One of Matt’s proudest achievements was leading the team that delivered the Campbelltown project 4-months ahead of schedule, allowing patients to access treatment closer to home sooner. Matt has a BEng (Bachelor of Engineering) in Civil Engineering, MSc (Master of Science) in Program and Project Management from the UK, PMP Certification from PMI (Project Management Institute) and more than 12 years’ experience in the construction industry across Australia and the UK. Matt is a team player, always has a smile on his face, and brings a positive perspective to all his projects. We're excited to announce that the ASTuTE prostate clinical trial just hit its 200th patient! This trial is seeking to investigate how a new prostate cancer artificial intelligence test affects doctor’s treatment recommendations for hormone therapy in conjunction with radiation therapy. The trial involves more than 30 sites across Australia, with the aim to recruit 800 patients with intermediate risk prostate cancer. Big shout out to the program team, including our PI Jarad Martin, for their hard work on getting us to this point. Today is Cancer Nurses Society Of Australia (CNSA) inaugural Cancer Nurses Day. The theme for this year is ‘Strong, Skilled, Specialised’, because of the desire to recognise nurses working in oncology for what they are: Strong in support, Skilled in practice and Specialised in knowledge. Today we shed light on the incredible work being done by the 270 compassionate nurses working across GenesisCare Australia's network and champion their contributions to improving patient outcomes in Australia. We will be celebrating this day with an all-staff virtual panel discussion featuring a nurse representative from each state. We look forward to learning more about the day-to-day experiences of our dedicated nurses and their unique perspective specialising in the field of cancer care. Embracing the spirit of Team Australia in Paris, several GenesisCare Australia centres have been celebrating the resilience and achievements of our patients in a truly special way. At GenesisCare Cabrini and Albury (Vic), we’ve been awarding gold medals to our patients on their final day of treatment — an honour that recognises their incredible strength and the significant milestone they’ve reached. Meanwhile, our Flinders (SA), Fraser Coast (Qld), and Frankston (Vic) centres have united to celebrate the diverse cultures within their teams while supporting our Aussie athletes. We are incredibly proud of our teams for consistently going above and beyond to create engaging experiences in our centres, bringing joy and a sense of accomplishment to our patients’ journeys. Last week, GenesisCare had the privilege of attending the Breast Cancer Trials ASM in QLD, which was both educational and enlightening. We are proud to highlight some key moments from our hardworking team: • Dr yvonne zissiadis showcased the Australian DCISionRT registry at the scientific session. This offered a comprehensive summary of the DCISionRT test, progress in recruitment, and interim analysis findings with over 800 participants. • A/Prof. Gillian Lamoury hosted a workshop presenting on the innovative study ORNATE, while Dr yvonne zissiadis served as the discussant providing valuable insights and feedback. • At the Daiichi Sankyo and AstraZeneca breakfast symposium, Dr Sally Baron-Hay moderated a panel discussion on Optimising HR+ and HER2-Negative Adjuvant Treatment in gBRCA patients, contributing to an engaging dialogue on advanced treatment strategies. • At the lunch symposium sponsored by Eli Lilly and Company, A/Prof. Gillian Lamoury joined a panel to discuss Applying the Nuances of Treatment in ER+/HER2- Metastatic Breast Cancer, highlighting the complexities and considerations in tailored patient care. We hope these sessions helped to provide invaluable knowledge for the attendees and fostered meaningful connections with peers and experts in the field. We are excited to continue advancing our mission to improve breast cancer care for all patients. We’re pleased to announce that healthcare veteran Robert Cooke has been appointed as the independent chair of the GenesisCare Australia board as we continue on our mission to achieve the best possible outcomes for patients across the country. Robert is a highly strategic and visionary leader with more than 40 years’ experience in the health industry including executive leadership of publicly listed and privately owned healthcare companies, and management of private and public hospitals in Australia, Asia, and the UK. He joins our high calibre, Australian-based board of directors who will guide our Australian business into our next phase of sustainable growth: Richard Lizzio, Dr Mario Guerrieri, Prof Liz Kenny AO, Shane Solomon, Dean Hawkins, Chris Champion, Jarrad Solomons and Paul Nicholls, with Dr Marie Burke OAM as an alternate director. GenesisCare Australia has launched three new cancer care centres this financial year and plans to open a further three over the next 12 months. More than $40 million p.a. has been earmarked for investment into technology and the expansion of our Australian business in the FY24 and FY25 financial years as we strive to increase access to high-quality cancer care for patients closer to home.
